Will it have skins? It would be a bit out of place if it said "ALEPH 05 - PHOBOS" when it's on
Ganymede. :pfff:

Sure ! Skins, forgot to mention.

Are you going to include Frelon IX with it as well?

I was thinking about this but I think I must improve a bit the FrelonIX before releasing it.
So it will be a separate addon.

That's what it is made for ;)

I mean, all mission we can provide by default have more or less
only the default Orbiter base as goal, and their not very rewarding
to say the less.

And I always loved phobos, but there is no stations by default.

A boring idea for mission:

"phobos station is in great trouble , you must evacuate all 40 peoples aboard
and bring them back to mars station"

With 4 crew each trip ;)

Landing on Phobos presents all kinds of unique challenges. Besides the fact you are relying on instruments from sinking into
the irregular mesh. The base will make a nice platform to keep from doing that. You can also lift off using only RCS due to
the low gravity, and you don't per say "land" on Phobos rather you dock with it using your wheels.

Also, I can see numerous missions with turbopack written all over them. Imagine lifting off with your turbopack, circle the
moon, and land back at Prelude II.

I agree an evacuation scenario would be neat too Dan, and obviously a re-write to my Martian Bound Veep scenario to take
advantage of the new base.

It would be neat to have some really cool scenarios using Neptune (a base on Triton maybe to study sub-zero geysers) and
other places we don't normally visit (maybe a Mercury scenario). I'll have to start dreaming a few up.

I can't wait!!!!!
:ptdr:

Awesome work!!!

In fact since symphony I dream of such mission, landing on phobos base pad is a challenge
because you *bump* a lot unless you are VERY carefful. This said it's beautiful
with Mars in backround such mission really make you feel you are in a "space adventure"

I'll add a training mission about that, the goal is to arrive at 20cm over pad
then you fire the PRO500SPEC0 (null relative speed) and let the ship drop.
after that,if it still bump a bit you engage immediattely again the "500"
usually if it's well done you can have a "landed" status in one or two attempt.

EVAing and going to airlock is more like EVA in space, my advise is to stay
1m over ground and fly like in space.

BLOG: doing the menu, just finished the code that add randomly a crew,
this will be usefull when base spawned by editor and you'll also have this
option in "base configuration" menu.  "ie: Reset and add new random crew"

A piece of cake when you know how:

Speed vector on base:

Correcting speed vector with RCS in translation:

Slowing down with Retro:

First "PRO500 Null speed", correction of orientation to be flat:

Using RCS in translation to be over the pad, "PRO500" at 10cm over ground
and then gently let drop (phobos attract you a litle bit)

Not even one bump, perfect landing:

Very nice landing and it's much more attractive than before to land on Phobos.
Nice work !

Wouldn't there be problems with refueling? Seeing as it isn't a "true" base, I don't see how it can refuel ships without them
docking with, but that's impossible because landed ships can't dock, so...

Well, seeing as how it is designed for the DG-IV, and the DG-II,III,IV allow refueling on the ground whenever landed...

I can use a trick with for example the base menu "forcing" ship to refuel.
Howewer I'll not do that (****). First the DGIV is able to refuel when landed
and if someone whant to use the base with another ship they just
need to use the scenario editor... click click... tank full.

**** Time problem, the base should be finished tomorrow...

Nice Dan. Is that from Rhea?
Will you be including an SDK so new skins can be created? You could have all kinds of custom Prelude II bases
throughout the solar system!

Of course he would. Anything made by Dan that is skinnable has an SDK. It's the LAW.

What about having different "flavours" of spacesuits (so users can pick their desired style) that you could select with the
DGIV config program? One of the flavours could be a bulky modern suit, the current DGIV suit, another could be a futuristic
"speedo" type suit, or maybe something cool like this:

But, it's probably a waste of time, and users can switch meshes of MMUs manually. But they could be released as
"customization packs" later on after the DGIV is released.
