It's good to have some place to download the add-ons but if we don't
read often the forum it's a pain to know wich one is good, wich one work
etc etc.

Here come a new site: Orbiter Central review

-Anyone can add a review (but unregistered users will not be able to edit them)
-Can upload up to 4 images with the review (images will stay on my server)
-author are encouraged to present their add-ons, user will note it and add comments.
-anyone can add comment to any review.
-can search by add-ons name, note, author, review author, last review, popular review, type of add-ons, orbiter
version etc etc.

-I will add many things, but will keep it VERY simple to use and browse trought the review.

This is a work in progress, database is set , admin part is set. (the main squeletton)
but on the main page the only things that work for yet is the language selection.

Anyway how do you feel it ? would this be usefull ?

http://www.dansteph.com/reviewer/   (I plan later to have a simple URL ex: www.orbiter.review.com )

Dan

[EDIT] Check the site during the next 15 days If you want to see how it goes
I'll upload my work every day.

looks really nice dan, but if I may make a suggestion;

It seems that all of those rockets in the main title background are awfully redundant. also, that dull grey seems cold
and emotionless.

my two cents

Cool idea!!
What about include the site to your homepage orbiter.dansteph.com and use the same design/style as on your site?

This is my first site with "professional" "emotionless" look, anyway as stated their not many things
on this page but there is already a lot of code in the background...
What you can't see yet is that you have skin that you will be able to choose
that will completely change the look of the page (more colored)

Skin will be remembered as language selection trought your visit even if your not registered
(I use cookies)

For now only the admin can choose skins.

BTW try to go to admin sub directory and enter 5 wrong password :)

the German translate file is not done yet, if you want you can try to translate this: (right words only)

Code: [Select]
$lLogin           ="Login";
$lRegister           ="Register";
$lAddanews        ="Add a news";
$lAddareview      ="Add a review";
$lSearchareview ="Search a review";
$lAddonsreviews ="Add-ons reviews";

IP removed from blacklist (the admin part ROCK and I *think* it's very secure if I don't remove the IP
from the blacklist you can't access anymore.. I can even put range IP)

I don't guarantee for the correctness of this translation! ( Because German is a difficult language ) :)

This should be far superior to my own static pages of reviews. We would no longer be limited to one mans opinion
and certainly not limited to the small number of addons I'm able to test. However it's hard to guess how much it will
be used.

Orbiter Hangar Mods has dynamic pages for uploading addons and reviews. The addons are catching on but I haven't
notice any reviews as of yet. I hope yours being dedicated to this purpose will catch on much more rapidly.

One suggestion though would be to add a rating system like you see with book or movie reviews. Here are examples;

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0112384/

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0932813909/qid=1084304468/sr=2-2/ref=sr_2_2/102-1749072-4712944

See this section at amazon

-------------------

My only difficulty with all of this is that I find it hard to criticize someone else's work.

Gene
BTW: I am NOT recommending that book

Thanks, Try now German file is done, it should remind your choice when you visit back
even another day.

Of course, any language will be welcome for review, by default if you choosed
German it will show you german and english review unless you specify
that you want only german or english.

I have a lot of fun with this one, I LOVE php and mysql :)

Rating system (vote) is planned, with my webspace I would be able also to
upload the add-ons directly as horbithangar. but I wonder if this would be fair.

Anyway, link to the add-ons will be in the review, perhaps I will allow
upload of small add-on ?

Dan

Only one thing: In the menu bar it says:  "Add-on Kritike"! It should be " Add-on Kritiken"

Done,

What you see here is the very basic, a lot of features will be done.
(ex: right table will show 10 top popular review with link to them, etc etc)

Hey, if you really get the site going full blast, it would be cool to have some add ons on your site but the space you
have isn't the only concern for that. could you handle X people downloading from your server and still manage to
have decent load times? I'm sorry, but I don't think that you could. Orbiter add ons are probably too popular

Another thing: In the menu bar under "Add-on Kritiken" it says "Articles"! It should be "Artikel"!

Sorry for bothering you with such small details, but I'm a perfectionist!! :)

Well this is work in progress, int the meaning time and If your ok I will pass you the english translate file
so you can translate it fully (take care there will be dozen entry in it at this time)

My wife speak german but she's not used to *computer* usage. It's sometime
very difficult to find an explicit translation.  (french suck in this manner you
end usually with 150% line lenght)
