Bad link :badlink: AVSIM don't like external link as said
you must copy/past and refresh the browser.
If this texture is available you may owerwrite the
DGII's one with the blue one without problem....

replace the following :

texture/dgmkII_3.dds  (low res DGII texture)
texture2/dgmkII_3.dds  (high res DGII texture)

with the dgmk_3.dds given in the new paint pack
(you must rename them)

if the repaint pack contain only low res (only texture/dgmk_3.dds )
you must delete the "texture2/dgmkII_3.dds" while high res texture
have an higher priority over low res.

I wonder if my explaination are clear  ? :wonder:

I must say I'm sick like a horse (cold wind got me)
so I'm brain fried :)

There is a plug in that allow Photoshop to  import/export
dds file... I suceeded to import and modify file but was unable
to export them in a convenient format that orbiter could use
(format seemed correct but Orbiter didn't liked it)

But you can export in bmp and use the dtex utility

Hmm, so you think the guy who made this Asteroid Addon, as seen in the link, made the painting himself
and didnt download it elsewhere?

Don't know if this texture is available but modifying
a dds is an easy job I'm surprised there is not much repaint
available.

Hope you don't mind me pursuing this one with you a bit, Dan (no worries, I'm pretty sure this
won't turn into a 600-post thread like the last time I asked you a question!) :)

I downloaded the dds plugin for Photoshop and opened up one of the DG2's high-res textures.
First of all, Photoshop says something about Mipmaps, and mentions that I must select "Use
Existing Mip Maps" in the save dialog.  But when I go to save, just to see if the choice is there,
there's no such item.  Rowf?

Also, when I open a dds file, I see a large version of the textures, plus what appear to be copies
that are scaled smaller and smaller.  Do I have to modify each of those textures, or just the
biggest one?  Now that I ask that question, I'm thinking I have to modify each one, don't I *sigh*

Crap....I see what you mean now, Dan.  I got to the point where it asked about the
Mipmaps...that whole complex section after choosing a filename.  I tried a few different ways, and
it doesn't seem to like it in Orbiter--the wing texture I modified is missing.  Hmmmm!  One would
think it would work, somehow, some way....

LOL arrrgggghhhh....never mind, I found an old post on the "official" Orbiter forum that explains
this!!!!

*whistle* don't mind me, I get punchy at 1am....I'll play around with this for a few hours and then
we'll see how my DG2 turns out at 4am.  *shudder*

Hey Michelle,

As a fellow Canadian, I need your help :)  Please help name the new Canadian Delta Glider I've
repainted!  "Canuck 1" was the test craft, and now I'm going to go full out and do a heavy
repaint.  But I need a name.  I was thinking of "The Gretzky" but I don't think that'd work :)  Any
suggestions?

Of course, anyone else is welcome to suggest too....

Dave

Hi Dave

I think I may have a contender for you. After I read your post this morning I decided to give this
some thought. So as I'm taking my shower this morning, I came up with:

COBA <--- Canadian Orbital Blue Arrow

I figure with Dan's permition you could substitute G-SNDO on the wing with G-COBA or C-OBA2 or
just COBA.

What do you think?

lol....

well, Michelle, I see a couple of problems with that....first off, I'm not going to actually repaint the
spacecraft blue =D  I'll leave it red and white--Canadian colours! :)

Second of all, I'd like to actually name it, not acronym it.  I thought of acronyming it; but a ship is
a "she", and a she deserves a real name.

Dave

p.s. also I think Canadian aerospace hasn't done particularly well yet with anything
named "Arrow", eh? ;)

Huuu ? (cough ! cough !)  what's happening.. revolution ?   <--- (old man voice)
sniiirfllll....
cryeeeek <--- bone noise of the old man getting out of his bed

Oh hem... I was in bed the whole day (cough ! cough !)
sorry... but you did seem to find the solution ? :)

I find COBA not to bad heuu Canuck sound less good from my point ;)

Oh well I suppose I may just return to bed... damn virus (cough ! cough !)

Dan

PS:
-don't forget to modify both the low-res and the high-res texture.
-if you still haven't found, MIPMAP is a technique where the reduced
image are contained already in the dds texture , so when you go far from the vessel the texture simply switch without expensing calculus to reduce the texture himself (very time consumming)
for example the dds texture may contain already:
512x512 <- original
256x256
128x128
64x64
32x32
16x16 etc etc

ehhhh go back to bed, old man ;)  I feel your pain.  I'm still feeling some lasting effects of some
bronchitis I had a few weeks ago.  Then again you could be experiencing the secret US
government "sick bug" they've released in France just to get back at all of you.  You damned
Frenchmen, wanting peace and such!

Thanks for the mipmap explanation!!  I'm good with computers but pretty much a newbie when it
comes to DirectX and texturing and meshes and stuff like that.  J'comprende!

You don't like Canuck, eh?  Interesting.  I don't know about COBA though.  Like I say, it sounds
like a disorder, like SARS or whatnot.  Chronic Orbiter Brain Atrophy, maybe? :)

I need a name.  "Dauntless", "Excelsior", something like that!  Don't make me call it the "Good
Ship Lollipop"! :0

G-LOC, if you figure it out, please post the options you used.  I tried about every combination of
options with Photoshop and the dds plugin, but it wouldn't work in Orbiter.  I finally got around it
by using dxtex from the Orbiter SDK as Dan suggested.

Cheers,
Dave

Hmm it says it cant write the alpha uhh something because the file is too big...the thing which is clear
that you must use the existing mip-maps-why - idont know ...maybe i should read the manual provided with
this zip from nvidia.

Wow :)

"Chronic Orbiter Brain Atrophy"

LMAO :)

Good one!

Hmmm... lets see....

Enterprise
Atlantis
Eagle
I know... I know... Um... how about.......... {Canucktica} <-- LOL :)

Or on a more sensible note. how about *Arcadia* <<--- But if published please insert credit for
that one. I use it all the time for various applications. like in Earth and beyond It was my ships
name, when making a city in sim city 3000 it's the name of the city I build etc...

Oh and G-LOC "I have two Manga chicks on my wings".... uh huh... Dare I ask their attire? lol ;)

Dan: "Canule"????????  What the hell is that???  Sounds evil.

Michelle: Now, maybe if we call it "Battlestar Canucktica", you've got a deal! ;)  Arcadia is pretty
good (best so far, at any rate).  But I'm looking for something really really symbolic, somehow.  I'll
know it when I see it (can you tell I have an artist's temperament)???

G-LOC: Manga chicks?? lol  you've started the wings down a slippery road, there, bud.  Actually,
you make me think that there's a whole avenue of advertising on the wings.  Maybe I could sell
the rights to the wings to McDonalds, put golden arches on them, and call the ship a "McGlider"!

Cheers,
Dave
