Well then they will just plaster another one on top of the old one.. Russians. Sturdy, practical, prefering brute force to
high-tech :)

Actually, a bit of trivia for you. My grandfather was passing by pretty close to the place (TMI) as the drama occured.

funny thing is that us americans were just as eager to keep it nice an quiet. here's a bit of info.. Notice that the guy
didn't tell a lie, but I'll be damned if that was the whole truth.

March 28, 1979, 4:00 a.m. - Beginning of the Three Mile Island (TMI) Unit-2 loss-of-coolant, core melt accident. The
plant came within 30 minutes of a full meltdown. The reactor vessel was destroyed, and large amounts of
unmonitored radiation was released directly into the community.

March 28, 1979, 4:30 p.m. - Press conference of Lt. Governor William Scranton:

This is an update on the incident at Three-Mile Island Nuclear Power Plant today. This situation is more complex than
the company first led us to believe. We are taking more tests. And at this point, we believe there is still no danger
to public health
. Metropolitan Edison has given you and us conflicting information. We just concluded a meeting
with company officials and hope this briefing will clear up most of your questions. There has been a release of
radioactivity into the environment. The magnitude of this release is still being determined, but there is no evidence
yet that it has resulted in the presence of dangerous levels. The company has informed us that from about 11 a.m.
until about 1:30 p.m., Three-Mile Island discharged into the air, steam that contained detectable amounts of
radiation.

Hm intresting. Was the the incident after which China Syndrome movie was made? Only they made it worse in the
movie.

I guess they may have a point there. There are different type of radiation damage. One is direct exposure. You can
actually withstand quite a high dosage, assuming it is shortlived. Most of it passes through your body possibly even
not damaging the tissue. Of course, that is NOT a rule and depends on many things. In the case of TMI I guess that
was the case. The radiation then goes off in different directions and dissipates. Residual radiation can be low enough
to be safe. Still it is RADIATION... And people SHOULD know it's there. But that's another point.

But the problem gets really serious if you have contaminated particles, that float in the atmosphere. Like in
Tschernobil there was radioactive graphite dust from the control rods that spread around with wind and settled onto
everything. Then you get persistent radiation AND you inhale it, eat it, touch it whatever. Now once the contaminated
particle gets into your body it can wrech havoc.

But yes, comminism is no worse than capitalism when it comes to coverups.. Only the motivations changes. In one it's
party prestige in other its potential profit loss... Check this link, just read it yesterday and I think I will actually
participate for what it's worth.

You're not planning on making a Gupt III if he does, are you? :)

First it was useless posts, then it was useless pictures. Next it'll proabably be useless links. :)

Well, I think an off topic thread is good to an extent, so we don't post garbage on "on-topic" threads, since we all
seem quite talkative, but it should just be offtopic, not useless :) so like you said Free, no links, no photos, just plain
old offtopic ranting :)

Hm.. come to think of it. Theoretically, I COULD erase old posts from this thread directly, if you all agree, so we just do
away with the stuff that slows down the load time of this thread. Most of it IS against the forum rules anyway
(politics, religion, sex,...) :)

McBrain?
Krytom?
Freespace?
Atom?
Shmi?
Dan?

Good idea, but don't take away Dan's nice photos.

The first few images they submitted were quite witty but then it turned into a race into how fast they could post
something.

I tried to deflect them by pointing out how embarrasing some images could be, but they were out of control.

BTW I have found the photo of 2 year old Krytom with only a pair of toy binoculars preserving his modesty
and
we have a brand new scanner! :) :) :).

I for one disagree, because I think they're all pretty funny, And for the record. I was not racing to post another image.
I was merely in competition with the others to have the best picture, and it was in good fun...
Heck, even dan posted a few pictures, and the love bug virus wasn't exacly friendly. Doc, you gotta loosen up a little.
just becasue You have an opportunity to use your powers of moderation, doesn't mean that you should!

Though I can't help but feel a little guilty for starting the flood of pics. I technically was the first to start posting the
really useless pics with my useless sign.. But nah, I got rid of my conscience years ago.. That feeling's just gas...

I would like to say that very few baby pictures could embarass me. Most show that I was once innocent, and that is
not true of me at all today, so.... I'm cool with it. and for those few pics that might, well..

I took care of the scanner in case somebody might get ideas. :)

OK, what about that:

Let's post baby pictures of everyone here and then close the thread (or even remove it).
Then Dan could maybe add an extra forum (not a thread) for off-topic purposes.

Dan, could you do this?

*sigh*

maybe I should take a vacation from the forum?

Then all of a sudden the off-topicness would go away, only to come back with my return.. :)

I do suspect that I am the indirect cause of most of it... I fear it's my personality. :(

Calm, Freespace. I would like to direct the honorable gentleman's attention to the quote above, specifically making
sure he notes the "if you all agree" part of it. Or perhaps I should rephrase that, if you all agree. I feel no need
to erase stuff arbitrarily, it was merely a proposition. Since you disagreed, as far as I am concerned a new solution
must be found.

As for the photos. Yes, they WERE all funny, more or less, depending on one's taste. However, they were funny the
first, second, third, maybe fourth time. But now it's deadweight. And since I would like to keep the GUPT, I made that
proposition. A better idea of course is to form an offtopic forum run by Freespace, master of uselessness :) BUT that's
Dan's decision alone :)

are used on him.
Theoretically, you have no rights :) also theoretically, the authority is absolute (Dictatorship, to quote Dan),
furthermore, the forum is Dan's private property and American memeber know that term well. Realistically though, I
personally hold it for sacred that we all have full rights of speeking out and I start from the premise that I myself,
have no rights nor authority to impeed you in that. I just moh-deh-rate :) I keep the discussion within moderate
limits. Keep you from killing eachother verbally, and try to direct discussion not to deviate too much from the topic of
Orbiter. That's it.

And you can quote me on that, as I am quite sure you will, hehe.

we are a litle group of 10 guys posting regulary here this is not enough
to open an off topic forum. (and to get bored by sad people posting flame / political / religious / spam / other **** )

Anyway feel free to open another GUP III (or IV ?) and leave this one sunk. (doc you can close it ?)
take just care when you open off-topic post that you put the [hs] tag in the title.

Perhaps someone can open a "[hs] forum member child photos" thread only dedicated to ours
kid ?

As I stated already I preffer an alive forum with *somes* (reasonnable) off topic post
then an empty "on-topic" forum.

What's [hs]?

As in [Off Topic] GUPT or [hs] GUPT?

Shame I cannot move individual posts, I could just relocate the kid's photos to a new thread.. :(
