Due to the problems on the official forums, I suggested to the forum moderator on simflight forums
(http://www.forums.simflight.com) to create an orbitersim forum. Here's his answer...

Hi Kenobi  Hmmmm, don't know. We don't seem to have a lot of folks interested in that sim here
(or anywhere lese for that matter). Now, if we would get a whole load of requests for it.... who
knows...

The problem for forum masters is always to have the right balance between 'interesting' forums
and well-visited forums. I am not sure the Orbiter forum would be well-visited, but, I am open
minded, so prove me wrong

Anyways when Orbiter's forum is down feel free to fill this one,
if there will be too much message I may split it in several forum
as "Add-on" "free discussion" "math and physic" etc etc  it would
take me only 10 mn to do so.

sure Dan, do it !

in any case it's interresting to have new forum : to ask questions lost in the beginning of Orbiter's
forum. A good way to have new fans !

It was just an idea. Anyway, if you want to support the idea of having a new Orbiter Forum, just
second my idea on simflight forums (http://www.forums.simflight.com/index.php), on the General
Flight Simulator Topics...

I think someone should show this guy the list that was created with all the different nationalities. I forget how many there were, but there were so many different places and people. Does someone
have a copy of it??

Please notice that I'm note suggesting to replace the official forum, but that there is a need for
more forums, and that places like simflight or AVSIM are a better choice for the community.

I think AVSIM would be a perfect location, given the fact that it's already an add-on repository!

I suggested it sometime ago (Aug-02), and on AVSIM they gave me this answer:

We did have an Orbiter forum on the old forums than changed the name to the "Space Port" in the
new forums to include any space sims out there as there were a few that were getting mention.
Unfortunately, the whole time it got very little use. There seems to be quite a bit of activity in the
forums on the author's website and we just don't seem to have enough users here at AVSIM to
support a forum here. That could change of course, but I still don't see much being said about it in
our forums.

I think moving the official forum to avsim would be a good idea for the orbiter community.
I came to Orbiter after running flight sims for years and wanting something new.
I think a lot of people would be intersted if the knew about it. Moving to AVSIM would get more
exposure in the simulation world.
Or do we want to keep it small and free from commercial pressures?

Brian.

I'm afraid that having too many Orbiter forums would dilute the participation and none of them
would get enough traffic to make it worthwhile. It might be better for Martin and the M6 guys to
work with one of the other forum hosts to create a backup forum. When the main forum is down
then you would be redirected to the backup. Not sure the technical aspects of doing this but it's
just a suggestion.

I don't think that having several forums will 'split' the community, but instead, it will make it grow. I
think that making the community to grow is a good thing, but that's a whole new discussion....

Fortunately Martin will resolve the Orbiter's forum problem
I hope in a near futur but while waiting that and when it goes down
you can write to McDope's forum or here.

There is an AVSIM forum for Virtual Sailor community but
he get only few post a day when the official one is up.
Doesn't worth a reading. (I just checked it have only
260 thread since it opened age ago)

I know I would like to see a forum which supports NNTP access - as does simflight.  It is nice to be able
to follow a variety of forums using a single browser, rather than visiting a dozen webpages and trying to
keep track of what topics you've already read.
