From my kind of outdated Utilities / Dev links:
http://simcosmos.planetaclix.pt/01_orbiter/SC_util/c_util_prg/prg.htm

Orbiter Forum link (v2): 'mdl to 3ds?'
- original link (dead):
http://orbit.m6.net/v2/read.asp?id=17356

- alternative (waybackmachine):
http://web.archive.org/web/20050511234022/http://orbit.m6.net/v2/read.asp?id=17356

- From where you can follow to:
http://hem.passagen.se/henry.veppling/mdl/mdl.htm

- Other links:
http://forum.sketchup.com/showthread.php?t=76928
http://www.flightgear.org/Docs/FAQ.shtml#6.3

I do not know (haven't searched) about if there are more updated tools / strategies (perhaps they are out there for things
such as gmax, blender, etc, again, haven't searched).

Also, please have in mind that the (old) directions I'm pointing aren't exactly what you have asked for (+/- direct conversion of
FS2004 mdl format to msh). It might be however possible to do something with some mdl files or with source FSDS (.fsc which can be used with CVA Converter), etc files, as long as having the proper permission from the original authors (there are even places in FS Community where source FSDS are available for modifications as long as proper credit is given).

Probably not the answer you were looking for but it might help a little.

Sorry about writing in English, but it is a lot faster for me that way.
If needing a translation, I'm sure that someone here will help ;)

:grrr:)
