I created the above DGIV skin with paint.net. You need to make sure you download the .PSD and .DDS dlls first and install
(mentioned previously in this thread). The DDS one deposits the dlls in a folder. You need to make sure you extract them from
the folder. I assure you though, it does work nicely. Took me about 3 hours to get used to the interface. After that, I was a
dds making God. If I can do it, anyone can!!!!!

Cheers,

After you install the Paint.NET package in your programs folder (or wherever you wish), all dlls go into the FileTypes
folder. It is just that simple. Make sure that no sub directories (folders are deposited in there- just the .dll files
themselves. You will have:

DdsFileType.dll
PhotoShop.dll
squishinterface_Win32.dll
squishinterface_x64.dll

You may also end up with a license.txt and readme.txt message in the folder by they are not necessary to keep. Both downloads
tell you to install them in the FileTypes folder. It is relatively simple.

After that, simply open the photoshop files in the SDK, edit them, and save them as Dan as specified.

I have a question for anyone that knows.
I'm getting .DDS files saved, but they are 5 Mb in size.
What or how do I get them smaller in size like the default ones?
I'm using paint.net, so what file format do I use to save the .DDS?

I appreciate any help anyone can offer, thanks.

Update: I hadn't installed SP1 for C++ redistributable. Everything is working fine now!!

Use the one on the bottom of the list. It will save each file to about 2MB.

You must convert them to DXT1 format with MIP MAPING

DXtex.exe that is in Orbiter/Utils can convert them for you.
First change format to DXT1 then select "generate mip map"

If done right each texture must be about 600ko only.

A near-future DGIV skin, based on the Space Shuttle, even has a "primitive" heat shield.

Note that you need a plugin to save it as a DDS file, which you can get here:

Um, I did that but it said that "There was an unspecified error while opening the file" as I tried to open the DGIII_2
thing in the DGIV Skin SDK.

Also,  should I use the A8R8G8B8 thing from the pull down menu at the side? That's the first one that seems to work,
but I have no idea what it means...

I noticed that under the Atv skin layers, the textures used by that can be made by removing the white skin layer of
the psd file.

And this is what I've been up to. Not yet finished, but enough to give you a taste.

I missed most of Gerry Anderson's earlier work, but I am old enough to have watched Terrahawks as a kid in the late 80's.

In that spirit, a skin (which will be one of a whole series) dedicated to Terrahawks

Forgive me for being a bit thick :( I've never ventured into the world of addons or skins before, but this new DGIV
vehicle is so good it has inspired me to think creatively. But ... I can only see a PreludeII skin SDK and a Payload skin
SDK on Dan's DGIV download page. I've probably overlooked it, but can someone tell me what I should be looking for
in order to make a new DGIV skin?

Many thanks!

30 items are displayed per download page. You need to go to the bottom of the download sheet and press the page 1 button. The
DGIV SKIN SDK is the item farthest down the page.
