What make you think that I would spread a copy ?

No chance, as author I understand fully the confidential wish of martin
and as a simple guy I understand that a promise must be hold.

But you were HOPING he would, I can't blame you, but I can't believe you asked. that's like a taboo 101. If you're
going to ask, then ask someone like.. errm. never mind.

personally, I'm the type that ...err.. shares things.. If you get my drift... I couldnt' be trusted with something like an
orbiter beta when I would gladly share the windows source code.  Of course, if I ever wanted to remain in the
community after that point, I would make sure not to advertise that it was I who leaked it. Mind you, I don't have
either a beta of orbiter or the windows source but I'd like to have both...  I mention this to show that I do find things
now and again that I do share... sometimes really cool thngs. but anyway..

I'm happy I don't have a copy of the orbiter beta, because it would be impossible for me to resist giving it to those
who would find it impossible to not want it. (and I'm sure if it was leaked not a single person here would hesitate to
download it.) It's only human nature. but anyway, Dan's probably under an oath of blood to keep that copy in
only his posession. but more likely, it has dan's name somewhere on the loading screen so that if he gave it to you
and you were like me, then DAN's rear would be fried, and he'd take his anger out to you, but more importantly, *US*
because anger make people like that. Err.. now why did I go off on a rant when one was really not needed? the world
may never know.....
But I will. because I be the sarcasm king. :P

Okay, that's fair of your to confess BEFORE I actually entrust you with the new Yukon source code, I've been beta
testing.. :)

But before this thread turns into a crack exchange domain, I'd like to ask Dan how did you originally get involved with
Martin (did you meet or? sourceforge?), so that you became a beta tester? Basically what's the story of this whole enterprise? I mean Orbiter is now way beyond a pet project of one person.

Cheers,

Cheers,

The whole process:

I searched for Ms space simulator, found a page Orbiter related,
downloaded Orbiter, flyed 4 hours with it, lack of sound was to bad for me.

I searched for a sound add-on, didn't found one, digged a bit in the
doc, found the concept module (dll)
Started to program OrbiterSound, went with the first version 4 days after
my first Orbiter download.

Several month later as OrbiterSound imposed himself as an essential add-on
and while I was writting to Martin about some request he replied to me
and asked also if I wanted to be beta tester... I said yes.

That's it,

Dan

No but I received yours and in public on the forum or in private by mail my
answer is the same....

I mean... when someone give you something and ask you to take care
of it you spread it to anyone ?

Hehe, seems to me Brenton started drooling because he saw those SHADOWS again and couldn't help himself :)

Have a  friend and relax. Orbiter will come out when it's ready :)

Yeah, but then dan'll get another beta, and the next one will probably have support for dynamic planet orbits or
something.

I'm already mad about it!

Doc, if it's not too late... I use the MS Sidewinder Precision 2 and it is quite acurate and has smooth thrust slider
(though I don't use that for Orbiter). Even has a POV hat. 8 buttons too. USB and no drivers required. Remember the term "Plug and Play"? With this it's as simple as plugging it in and playing your favorite game. Most of the time you don't even have to configure it through windows (unless it's off center for some reason).

Thanks Travis,

No it's not too late. I'm still a keyboard pilot :) I kind of put the idea on hold for the moment. Anyway, what usually
bugs me with joysticks is how quickly they break. I mean, the Z&Y axis get mixed up, the controls become jerky, the
trust sliders start to behave erratically. HEh, obviously it must be the way I use them.

Plug-and-Playability is not that important to me. I can configure stuff, just the longevity. That's what I really want.
Something I can have for a few years without giving me a headache :)

I'll look into it.

Well, this particular joystick is several years old and still works quite well (and has taken a bit of a beating to boot).
As far as I can tell there has been no degredation in performance.

Eh, it was down for a bit, doc. I noticed it too for a while.

But it was just the domain. You could still access it via the long name it has.

Anyway it's fine now.
