See http://www.bruneras.com/fgames.htm
This guy made these games with Visual Basic 6.

I finally could live the experience of flying a fighter in the Battle of Endor, or to be Luke Skywalker in the first strike
against Death Star.  I expected some crappy game, but as I started to play I was drooling.  The action is magnificent
and his work is just great.

It amazed me, as its gameplay is better than any Star Wars game I had played.
It is just as positive as Orbiter was to me the first time.

It is a non profit game, a homage.
I would hire this guy, if I was GL.

hmmm... I don't know, GL is usually is very sensitive about other people using his work... That's why he became an
independent film maker... Oh, well. The games are pretty cool! :top:

If I was GL, you bet I would make this guy to be my employee.
That way GL should not worry about being "sensitive about other people using his work", for this guy would work for
him.

Of course, this is the smartest move.
If you get talents, you could make money if you hire them.
Else, it becomes a matter of ego.

GL has given global permission for non-profit fan-films.  I'm pretty sure he would also give blank permission for non-profit
fan-made game addons, books, songs, etc... if he hasn't already.  George Lucas isn't like Paramount (Trek)

Indeed these games made me to remove the dust from the movies I had.
If I did not have those movies I would have felt compelled to buy them...
These games have helped me to revive the childish enthusiasm about Star Wars that I used to have when I was a
kid...

...and kept me for some days from creating Orbiter addons...
I will resume soon.  I am trying to figure out some things about how to improve the existing code for Space
Orbinomics II, for it has some sluggish performance bacause it is a bit graphicaly rich (more than I have ever made).

One question:
What's the force in the game?

Now all thatwe need is the ability to get out of your ship in space, 1st, 2nd and 3rd person views, the force, more
realism, and a lot of BANG!

I think the developer's view is a bunch of C++ code. :bug:

Developer is an architect, programmer/coder is the carpenter.
In Orbiter you have architects working as carpenters too.
You may find these docs on game design interesting
http://www.gamedev.net/reference/list.asp?categoryid=23
Designing games is far more than just coding.

By the views, I mean; 1st person is the hud only, 2nd person is the cockpit w/hud, and 3rd person is the external
view w/hud. Just think about Ace Combat 6.

This game...while very good...is pretty much a copy of the old PC games Xwing and TIE Fighter.  It even uses the
same button, "x", to change how your lasers are crosslinked.

Those games were great.  Their sequals, Xwing vs TIE Fighter and Xwing Alliance, had better graphics, but their single
player missions were not as fun.  Those of you who like this game should check out the games made by lucasarts.

BTW, is anyone else having problems with the game exiting to desktop randomly?  It is happening on both computers
I have it installed on.  One's a Vista machine, while the other one is a XP machine...and they do not have a lot of
programs in common.

I got news for you... it seems there are some mods around.
Found some alternate mods...

STARWARS - The Battle Of Yavin v11 FULL MOD
download: http://w13.easy-share.com/1805681.html

STARWARS - The Battle Of Endor v21 FULL MOD
download: http://w13.easy-share.com/1805671.html

If I am correct, as far as I understand, these games need to be installed in The Program Files directory for the mods
to work.

Also, it seems there is a Tron mod.

There's a SW mod called Star Wars: Destiny being developed for a tactical spacesim called StarShatter: The Gathering Storm.
The same guys (or guy) have a mod for the XWA game as well.

There's a playable demo mini-mod for it, but you'd have to buy the SS:TGS game to run it.  I wrote a simple demo scenario for
the mod, which is up on the XWAVI site and the Starshatter Mods site.  Here's the links:

http://www.xwavi.com
Star Wars: Destiny mod home

http://www.starshattermods.com
Most active SS:TGS mod site.

http://www.starshatter.com
SS:TGS home

Development is slow, but there's already a great deal done.  The SS:TGS engine goes way beyone XWA in terms of graphics an
performance.  There's only two things it can't do that I really want the game to support:

1) More animations for vessels

2) Seamless atmo reentry

I think with projects like Infinity coming along, I'm guessing it'll be about 5 years before all of these features will be
more common in a space sim.

On a side note, the Battlestar Galactica mod for SS:TGS is really active, and very well done.

Cheers
