I agree. Never seen low FRs in Orbiter even with a relatively low end computer and a Radeon 9600 Pro vid card (AGP).
Wish I
could get half the FRs and smoothness in FS2004 and FSX that I get in Orbiter.

Unfortunately, I cannot agree.  I have a P4 2.0 Ghz, 256MB ATI Radeon 9650 PCI, 1GB RAM on my home PC and get
13 FPS on the "worst case scenario" for DGIV with all visual effects turned off.  About the same performance on STS-
117 until I get away from the cape.

Don't understand why I get such poor performance on my home PC, and yet my work laptop gets 20-30 FPS easy,
being a 1.6 Ghz Centrino P4, with 512MB RAM and 32MB of shared ATI Mobility graphics memory with all visual effects
turned ON.  Makes no sense to me.....

I've heard of people having trouble with Orbiter's performance but I've never experienced it myself even with a lot of high
poly ships and high resolution textures. Just hasn't happened to me fortunately. I do run a lean computer with lots of
unneeded stuff turned off plus I've had to tweak it a lot to get decent performance in FS2004 and FSX. Maybe that's what
keeps Orbiter running smoothly. I just wish I could get FSX running like Orbiter. Then I'd be a really happy camper. Alas,
that isn't going to happen until I build a new computer and all the money stuff that requires.

Even an very very nice computer couldn't run FSX very well. That's why I plan on selling my FSX and getting FS2004!
(and maybe FSPassengers ;)) My computer isn't that good, but typically even NASSP runs 'ok'.

if ur already happy with FS 2004, don't waste ur breath on FSX, unless u have a really highend PC. u need about a
gig of ram to run it.  otherwise, it just locks up on u.

I have a P4 2.8Ghz and a gig of RAM. Where I'm hurting is my graphics card is a Radeon 9600 AGP. What I really need is a PCIE
card and another gig of RAM. Of course with that comes a new MB, probably a new processor, RAM and other sundry. Not going to
happen any time soon. Broke my hand about the same time Dan broke his leg and learned an ER visit is going at over $1000
nowadays. And that's just the ER cost. Went to an Orthopedics specialist to get the bone set and that was another $1000. If
this ever happens again I'm going to set the damned thing myself.

FSX works OK as long as I stay away from large airports and airliners. Reason I'm not selling it is because of the gliders.
At present I'm trying to glide across the US from Seattle to NYC. So far I'm at the Mississippi River and only had to land
off field once. Record altitude so far is 35,000 ft. somewhere over the Rockies.

I wondered about that myself.  But even on a fresh reinstall of XP last month, I still had the same performance
issues.  I can run FS2004 at about all medium settings and get around 30FPS, so it puzzles me why I see such
problems from Orbiter.

Not enough to keep me way though.  Getting ready to do a flight from Mars in the stock DG - just because I like the
VC!

there HAS to be a way to put the Stock DG VC into the DG-IV. did anyone, or can anyone do that?

I don't do 3D modeling for Orbiter but from association with the sim for some time I think the only way to do that is to
create a whole new model for DGIV with a VC. Now having said that watch three people step in and say all it needs is a change
in a config file somewhere. :)

I have played using VCs, and I think for most players they are over-rated. I'd rather take the time and build out a mock DG
cockpit. Unless you are willing to accept the framerate hit, and you have a VR headset, I don't think it is worth the time.

Now, sit back and watch the "nastygrams" fly my way. I still believe if you polled people with two choices 1. I use a VC
often or 2. I rarely use a VC they would say 2.

Cheers,

*L* I'ld be happy if I could talk the maintenance crew at Olympus base into upgrading my original Delta Glider with
the new flight computer implemented in the DGIV.  Sure, you wouldn't have UMMU or cargo, etc., but it would be a
nice compromise.

I fly with VC every chance I get in FS 2004.   Nothing irks me more than to download a high-quality model of a
plane/helicopter I really like, only to find it doesn't have a VC.  Not quite that serious about it when it comes to
Orbiter, but I do enjoy flying with the VC once in a while.  Sometimes I just want that feeling of "being there."  If I
was to take Sun Dog's poll, I might have to pencil in the following choice:  3.  Don't use it often but would if more add-
ons had them.

There.  A not-so-nasty-gram.

Sorry I haven't responded for a while, But my Sig is not an IP tracker. I gathers NO data about you, It only displays
your it to YOU, when others look at it, they just see their IP.

FSX is the worst Flight Sim for any PC, of any generation. it's slow, i just dont like it. *shudders* FS 2004 is by far the
best Flight sim for the PC. it has basically no bugs.

FSX is so laggy. So much headaches I had to reinstall my whole computer to get this thing to work. And now, its
lagging more then ever.

i thought it was more simple than that, like, adding a few texture files, or something like that

It's easy to implement a static VC inside a vessel, even if you don't have access to the vessel's source code. Example, DGIV:
