Hello, I have checked the forum and also the SDK as I am new to any kind of spacecraft modelling in orbiter, and could
not find anything quite explaining whether this is possible. I was wondering, is it possible to make a DGIV payload
which can:

a) Fly under it's own power (ie land independantly on the Moon and then return to the parent DGIV)
b) Have it's own panel complete with the rather convenient hover autopilot of the DGIV (for lunar landing / liftoff)

If these were possible, then some interesting Apollo esque lunar-orbit-rendezvous type missions would be possible in
the Delta Glider. If there is an obvious solution to this please don't rip me down on this, like I said I'm new to creating
addons of any kind. But if this is a good idea and is possible, I would be happy to give it a go. I think the results
would be quite agreable all round :)

Sounds like a real neat idea.  Maybe it could also act as an escape module for a single astronaut too.  But a small
vessel that could be attached and carried in the DG 4 would be neat.

Yes a small crew escape module could be pretty cool too

I have good news to you: it is possible, but by the manuals (I haven't tested yet) it isn't possible to run the payload
ship while attached to the cargo bay.

There is a good and extremely simple SDK:
http://orbiter.dansteph.com/index.php?disp=dgIVMore&DId=30

If you understand that a payload is nearly the same thing as a spacecraft this can be useful:
http://orbiter.dansteph.com/forum/index.php?topic=10888.msg172419#msg172419

Knowing you are a newbie remember what a wise man said to me:

"My advise is... practice, practice... until you have a good addon.
Do not release your first addons.
Wait a bit until they are really cool for the most demanding users.
Even then you may get mixed comments, some good, some bad, some trolling or flaming, etc.
But since you are a dev because you enjoy it, that will not stop you
."

I'm already working on something like that but flyable to do reentries as orbital rescue module.

An infatable escape pod with every thing infatable due to some new device and can carry three DGIV crews.
