I was just reading another post here "Docking problems - beginner" and the topic side tracked into
old Commodore games. You guys got me thinking way back. There was a space game called Elite.
So I thought I take a look on the web...And what do you know, look at this..

http://www.iancgbell.clara.net/elite/

I used to love this game. Before there was a space sim this was the best I knew of. Now it's
twenty years later. he he

aaaaaaAAAAhhhh Elite, the MOTHER of all the sim game,
how many hours did I played to it ? too much probably.

Someone recall "spy vs spy" ?  I don't recall but it seem it was on C64
and was my first Mutliplayer game (screen in two part)
You had two Corbel that where spy and you had to put some
hiden bomb and such trap, so when the other come over it he explode.

I still Have that Game!  'SPY Vs SPY'... plus a THOUSAND others.  Too bad it's on 5+1/4" floppy
and my 1541C drive went bad.  :grrr:   I kept every game I ever had (possibly 1500 floppies) but
didn't keep a back-up floppy drive.  Probably impossible to find a working one now.

Anyone play 'Warhead' on the Amiga?  it was very "Ender's Game"esque with realistic ship
dynamics & battle & a great storyline.  Orson Scott Card needs to sign the rights to a movie so
all others can stop ripping him off.  ;) Great book for a 16 year-old author.

I tried past years some emulator for C64 and Amiga..... :doubt:

Perhaps it's better we continue to play them "virtually" in our
memory instead in real :)

I hear ya, Dan... Emulators miss out on all the LOVE. ...The Flickering TV, the Slow Boot times, the
Loud Humming, the Radiating Heat.  If only the kids could appreciate it as much as we did. 8o

Thanks a buch for the link, Dave... $7 for a 1541 in the box is tough to deny!

100% agree Reechkaa it miss the load,8,1 (if I recall well :)
and the old sound Grkkkk Grkkkk trr tr Grrrk Grkkk
of the floppy.

I remember there was many error at this time (well many of my disk
where *alternative distribution company* from one of my friend
so it was perhaps the reason.

And your heart was missing a beat when you hear:
Grkkkk Grkkkk click click....click click ....
and then the motor that stop,  Damn no luck another bad day.

There is a profession "sound designer" guy that test all the sound
that make a car cockpit for example and make them look more appealing
(sound of the light button etc etc)

Because the sound are really important and give a great feedback
to our brain about how a things is (smooth, hard etc etc)

All this to say that I remember with emotion the "SHCLLAACKK"
sound of the insertion of a floppy disk into an Amiga 500 :)

I loved spy vs spy but it wasn't a C64 version I played. I think it was on NES... my friend and I
played that game a lot.

That "SHCLLAACKK" is sounding fine indeed!  :)

See, I can beat all you guys for crappy early computer equipment.  I had an Atari 600XL (not to be
confused with the 800XL, which had another few K of RAM I think).  That computer didn't even
have a 5 1/4 drive...it had an AUDIO CASSETTE drive, if you can believe it; I wrote my first ten-line
BASIC program and tried to *record it* (unsuccessfully, I might add) to an audio cassette.  Yeesh.

Oh, and before that I played pacman on a Trash 80 using the arrow keys.  THAT was living, boy!

Okay.. now it's personal.  ;)
My first computing 'device' was the Timex-Sinclair 1000, with a whole 2K ram (thanks to 'ultra-
deluxe' addon cartridge), mini-chicklet keyboard, 2 colors (black OR white), 5-minute 'warm-up'
time, and audio cassette plug-in port that could load the latest Next-Gen games like:  Tick-Tack-
Toe, Pongo, & eventually... Snack Man. (only 30-min load time per cassette).  Eventually, an alpha-
Basic type program was devised, which Blew My Mind! :)

Fellow orbinauts,
I have the Sinclair ZX-81 that I bought in1982 straight out of Scientific American magazine. Soon, I
bought a 16k RAM module for it so I could fly Flight Simulator by Psion. The RAM addition, 16,384
BYTES, set me back for more money than I had ever spent on a CAR. At that point my family knew I
was "over the top", and bound for disaster. The operating system, interpreted BASIC, was ground-
breaking, and incorporated high-precision math, and a very comprehensive command list. I did
have to perforate the RAM enclosure with a few dozen 1/4" holes, and place a small fan next to it,
to prevent frequent system crashes. It still works just fine. Clive Sinclair became Sir Clive for his
invention.

Oh yeah, the good old times...

My first computer: Sinclair Spectrum ZX-81 with a special interface to connect a digital joystick (still
remember the 'click' - 'click'- 'click' ...) than the old C 64, than the Atari ST than the Amiga 500, than
the first PC (8086) 4,76 Mhz,  monochrome monitor and F-16 (Spectrum Holobyte)was not running -
because of the monitor...first hardware update (Hercules EGA -graphic card) and so on... oh man
the good old times :-))

By the way does anybody remember 'Microprose and Wild Bill Stealy'? I was running the german
office as general manager from 1988 til 1990 - what a crazy periode in my lifetime, really funny!!
The old sims 'Gunship, Silent Service, Pirates, F-15 etc.)

Is it true did this all happen nearly 20 years ago..??

I just can't wait until the 'Quantum Computer' is invented.

If you don't know what a quantum computer is I'll tell you what I know:
Intead of using silicon chips and micro-processors to compute data on, it uses the atoms
themselves.
This would result in an ultra efficient computer with approximately '0' processing time! 8o

Quantum technology could possibly give birth to 'Artificial Intelligence', 'Transportation at the
speed of light', and super realistic simulators. There are thousands more, but the rest I leave for
you to think of.

I've read that they've already built several prototypes for a Q.C. (although they're having
problems with loosing the atoms with all the data on, i.e. they keep on escaping :pfff: )

I know this sounds unbelievably cool, but for now let's hope that the Quantum age is just around
the corner. :top: :gift: 8)

Hello,

I started simulators with a Sinclair Spectrum 48Ko with rubber keys in 1982. The programs was on
tape and microdrive. Microdrive is an other Sinclair's invention, it's an endless tape of +- 100 ko of
capacity.

My simulators was Flight Simulation by Psion, Intercepteur Cobalt by Infograme etc etc...

I learned Basic and Assembler language (Z80) on it.

Incredible, but it works like a charm and sometimes I "play" again with "him"...

Then I had Atari with FS2 (it works too like a charm today) then..... it's an other looonnnng story.

Regards.
