Why is the beta not open?

I looked around and I don't understand how haveing an open beta could mean more work.
I know it could cause spamers, but why not just ignore them?

I'm not Dan, but he tried this just before Christmas last year and all he got was a bunch of incomplete bug reports
and had to press people for accurate bug reports.

This in the end got tiresome and Dan decided to close beta-testing to just a small group that he could trust on to
provide accurate and detailed bug reports.

David is right, innacurate reports, no feedback when asked, constant features requests added 500% work
and 1000% stress. I'll open the last beta (gold beta) because here I'll need massive testing.

This will not be a problem because:
1-all features request will be ignored. (dgIV have enough and it's not supposed to cook dinner also)
2-As there should be a few bug only I'll not be surrounded by reports.

I have started to write the doc now, shoulnd't be too long, one more beta ( 8 ) then if all is well it will be time for gold.

Seems like 10 will be the gold... if 9 doesn't bring up major bugs, lol.
