Hi everyone!

I've just been on a little tour of places to visit on/near the Moon in my DGIII. I went KSC->ISS->Mir->Luna-OB1->Moonbase
Alpha->Brighton Beach. Here's a few holiday snaps:

That's me at Luna-OB1 after a sarnie and a beer, Moonbase Alpha after a whisky and a cigar, and me at Brighton Beach after a
prunejuice and a packet of pork scratchings. Boy us Brits know how to eat!

Anyone know of any other nice places to stop before I attempt to return home? I love the beauty of Moonbase Alpha. Took me
about 5 attempts to land at Brighton Beach for some reason - kept landing too hard.

Getting ready to attempt to burn home now, planning on using TransferMDF for simplicity if possible. Also, anyone know how I
can check my weight for re-entry when I return? Bit concerned after all those pork scratchings.

Hope this thread isn't too inane for reply! I have a bit of a habit where inanity (is that a word?) is concerned!

Hm, you screenshot doesn't show.. At least for me.

Impressive flight for a beginner tho. It took me a few weeks to get a proper orbit (but of course I didn't have the
DGIII back then). The trip back to Earth might prove a bit harder, since none of the stock MFDs actually are able to
compute it, as far as I know. There are a few general rules (although I won't embarass myself with my ignorance on
the topic - I just fly as if I were making a slingshot and then burn retro at periapsis at Earth) and InterplanetaryMFD
(possbily others) can help you with the trajectory planning.

As for weight, try switching the custom Hud, the little "glass" screen on your right of the main panel.. One of the
displays will show you the current weight of the vessel.

Cheers :)

Cheers DocHoliday!

Right about the images... Let's try that again...

That should be better. Nice one about the HuD - I'd flicked from thing to thing but never spotted the weight parameter. I'll
have to ditch a load of juice to avoid smacking into the runway at KSC on my return which would be embarrasing in front of
all those tourists. And :) the finger-in-the-wind massive periapsis burn is exactly the technique I was planning to use! Must
be true what they say about great minds. Just hope I can plan to get there at the same time as Earth!

Still no juice on the photo.. seems as if the photo is locked behind some password protection. Do you have an
account there? Never mind, I'll live :)

heh, I try to keep spaceflight at a common-sense level, BUT you need a particular amount of knowledge, before you
can reduce main engine burns to common-sense estimates :)

I think the problem with weight tho (as per my common sense) :) isn't the landing, but the reentry.. heavy weight,
more inertia, lower deceleration, higher leftover speed, more drag, higher temperature.. :hot:

Cheers,

Nah, your pics show up when you copy address to your address bar. Try links instead.

Innit weird? They show up on my preview. They're not that great I suppose! Although I like them. I only set up that yahoo
photo gallery to show you guys!

It's been a fun trip so far. The strangest bit was docking at Luna-OB1. I gave up trying to synch my rotation in the end and
just inched forward to dock very very slowly.

Ah DocHoliday - I see your point about reentry. This'll be my first, so I'm wise to shed weight prior to reentry & not just
as I descend - glad you mentioned it! Could have been a spectacular sight.

Here's the link as you suggested She_Da_Lier: http://uk.pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/stuayres/detail?.dir=/d59d&.dnm=b677.jpg&.src=ph
What you can't see in the pics is my grinning visage having succeeded! Isn't it great the feeling of satisfaction us
Orbinauts get when we manage something cool?

Cheers everyone.

Hmmm...

I use FireFox almost exclusively for forums now and don't notice a difference with IE.  Maybe you should add the BBCode
extension to your FireFox installation. It might help.

StarLost: I have BBcode plugin installed. I'm not talking about forums.

Hey ControlledFarce.  Did you know that M$ continues to support the Moon Landing Hoax sites because NASA didn't use M$
software in the LEM?

;)

Was Microsoft around at 1969? I thought that M$ was a relatively recent company. :wonder:
Even so, M$ probably doesn't care.

Possibly, but I think it was incorporated in 1975. Maybe they couldn't provide MS DOS for Apollo 11, but they could for
one of the later missions.. Bad NASA :)

Hooray!

I finally managed to make it safely back to Earth again after my big adventure. It took me about 100 goes to get my re-entry
right in the DGIII even with PRO104, so that I arrived anywhere near a base with any fuel left. But, at last, here I am
safely landed at Habana, drinking a brandy and smoking a cigar after a bit of a hairy landing. Nice to be home!

I'll use a link to the image after my last photo-showing-off debacle...

Cheers guys!
