Hey there Dan,

How's it going bud? :)  OK, here's the thing.  I just had a blast from my past.  I found an mp3 file of
the theme song from "Battle of the Planets", a show I used to watch as a kid.  It's probably the TV
show that got me interested in space.  Anyway, it got me to thinking how neat it would be to be
able to play mp3 files from a folder using OrbiterSound.  I figure, if you can set it to play a wav file
at a certain time (like liftoff), wouldn't it be relatively simple to get an mp3 file to play instead?

Hmmmm.  Now that I write all this, I'm having this strong feeling of deja vu.  Did I ask this already
at some point? :(  And you told me it wasn't possible or something?

Cheers,
Dave

Hello Dave, How ya ? :)

There is several consideration that make me avoid MP3 (not sorted):
-less performance & flexibilite
-OrbiterSound can play sometime dozen of sound in same time.... mp3 mhhh ?
-latency in real time
-more trouble (sound card , driver , codec.... time to heat the help desk....)
-rely on third party lib & codec
-mp3 less simple to manipulate & modify
-actuall size of OrbiterSound isn't a problem.
-dev time consideration (but even if I would have the time
the other point will be blocking)

Hmmmm. Now that I write all this, I'm having this

I can assure to you that you only suffer a light version of alzeimer :) :) :)

Ah, I figured as much.  Oh well.

I did a "workaround" by starting my Battle of the Planets mp3 theme just before starting my
Orbiter scenario.  Boy oh boy...when the shuttle took off to that music, I was practically in tears....

In winamp there is an option to turn Mp3 back to wav
after that it's just a matter of putting the wav in the right place
(radio folder for example) and to create also perhaps
a "sequential" file for radio.... and you have a sort of "car's radio" :)
You can have a frequence for hard rock, another for classical music etc etc.
I know OBS can handle pretty large wav files without problems...
(several dozen Mo) the only drawback in fact with wav is to transmitte
them to other people on the net..... long download.

A "car radio" is EXACTLY what I was looking to do.  NOW you're talking my language, Dan!!!!  Why didn't I think of this before with the wav file conversion????

the file conversion is a winamp plugin that you must download
(see winamp's page)

I return to home (I'm still at work)

I thought of this too...a MP3 Player in a MFD Window...or internet radio...lots of ambient radio stations
available in the internet... this would be REALLY cool! 8o
