Sheesh Freespace. 220000 km/h, that's like 75% of light speed :) If you start of a little higher, you might actually
break the light barrier before hitting the surface. That would make for a nice screenshot :)

Freespace aka "Zephram Cocrane" of Orbiter :)

:)

220000 kph is not 75% of light speed. :pfff:
Methinx you're thinking of 220000 kilometers per second   :)

Still insanely fast, though. Too bad we don't have real disintegrating ships. Yet

I wonder, would it be possible for the DGIII to spawn a few odd-shaped chunks of stuff upon atmospheric
disintegration? Just a few blackened polygonal sheetmetal scrap looking things - defined as ships to give them
rotation and their own plasma fields.
That way the "you are dead" disintegration message would look particularly real, especially from a distance...

:stupid: Thanks, you're right.. I sorta expected I'd have made a mistake like that... besides it didn't feel right. maybe
if you were to straight-down on the sun, you might get a velocity like that...

Here's my newest attempt on jupiter!

http://img20.imageshack.us/img20/95/speedy.jpg

By some odd freak of nature, I pressed "control, print screen" the instant my speed was a nice even number..

This attempt was with the engines on and I was pointed straight down. Poor dan.. I'm abusing his pride and joy like
this... It's pretty funny... Note that the temperature went to the negative degrees on the bottonm display, but I think
what that really is is that it needed so many digits to diplay it properly, but there were only so many allowed that it
cut off the highest.. I got so hot that the thing couldn't display it properly :)

Next time: the sun. I'll drop all the way down from neptune if I must.

Martin forbid that to beta tester: no screenshot, no discussion about beta version.

Oh well. We don't want to know too much about the new *whisper* beta *whisper* version. That way, the impact
will be greater when it finally gets released. :) :gift:

hehe...

dan.. nice... but.... not nice enough..

hopefully one can see some atmospheric haze on mars when the new version comes out, even if it isn't nearly as appealing as on earth, I tried to center this pic better, but alas, the ships kept wandering off, so this will have to do. it's still a nice pic, though...

Isn't it though? I spent about a half hour getting those ships in the same location. another hour trying to get them
centered for a picture, but that failing, I just took one, and that's the result. I have the scenario I saved just before I
took the picture if you want it as proof.. by the way, that "brown" skin was my "seKret project". It's ugly, but I made a nice rust effect that you can't see from that distance. the skin itself isn't done yet... so no closer peeks. :)

Dan: "Retouched"  is a word in English, too  :)
Personally though, I prefer "screwed with"  ;)

Free: I need to work on my repaints too, but I've been spending so much time editing .scn files lately that I'm bored - I
just wanna friggin' fly around :)

Oh, I think I got my vespucci bugs ironed out. I'm making a scenario with fuel modules ("Modulefuel" they're called)
docked to the Vespucci's ports. Not only can you get fuel from them (duh), but each one gives you 4 possible docking
ports, 1 of which points straight out and so is good for ships with odd docking ports (such as the space Shuttle) ;)
I'm only going to have 2 of 'em, but hypothetically by using 4 of 'em you could dock 16 ships to the Vespucci :)
//not even gonna try

Doesn't sound hard, I know, but I can't seem to set the scenario up without manually docking the modules to the ship.
I'm trying for 6 ships connected to 2 modules, plus a bunch of FuelOrbs on the other two.

Eh, I was thinking of taking the ISS, and putting it over mars, having all the DG3's docked to it. that would make a
nice intersolar trading hub :) but seriously, I think that my pic shows the true potential of the DG3, you can have so
many ships, and all have different skins. I love it! that person (whoever it was) that said that you wouldn't go to
anything else once you've flown a DG3 wasn't kidding or lying. it's just awesome. (WAS that you, dan?) It really
makes me want the new orbiter version to come out all the more, for once it does, the new DG3 version will follow
soon after. :) :) :)

I know it's selfish, but to be true, I haven't known about orbiter *that* long. I've only been with it since the version
just before the version where particle trails were introduced. I looked up the orbiter main page in an archive of older
sites and dude! I don't know how it was interesting that far back. It looked...bad... and not in a good way, either.. I'm
just a guy that keeps up with things with pretty eye-candy... That's the kind of person I am, a sorta half-n00b. So
yeah, I'm selfish. going to something called the moon mathematically isn't fun unless you get something that
resembles the moon A LOT!! I myself would go for level 15 resolution. and yes, I know that nobody's computer can
support that.... yet. but they will, and I'll be the first person to encourage them because I like limits and pushing them.

So anyway. that's my rant.. remember me when they lock me up. ;)
