Oh a quick intro to heraldry, so you'll know what I was on about before:
Symbols "are allowed" to use colors and metals. By definition no two color should stick together without a metal to
divide them. The metals are silver (white) and gold (yellow). The colors are blue, red, green, black and some others,
but not ALL the colors.

So if you follow these rules, you can see which flags were made taking them into consideration. Most north European
countries did, that's why their flags sort of give you the feeling their colors are hm "well balanced". I guess there is a
lot of psychology in heraldry.

Take the Confederate flag. The blue and the red are divided at all times by silver, with the US flag, that's only true for
the red white stripes. But where the stripes touch the blue, there is not border and that is sorta wrong according to
these rules, also gives you a feeling the colors are smudged. Our flag also is incorrect, because it's just a variation of
the former Yugoslav three-color flag (red-white-blue). We just changed the sequence so it's now white-blue-red top-
down. See how the colors sorta melt together, instead of being crisp.

Here:

and ours:

Some examples of heraldically correct flags (personal taste is another matter) :)

Romania:

I know :off:, but a little something for the general education.

Yeah. I got rid of the strips, so I guess I'm done then. I can't imagine grey or beige warning strips being very
effective, so these are final pics, unless anybody has suggestions...

You can't take a picture of this ship at a bad angle, no matter how hard you try. :)

I.. umm.. exaturated the lighting a bit... but it's just so that you can see that the decals are still there.. but I don't
know if this alone is unique enough to even bother putting out. All I've done on this is re-color the body, add a few
stripes, and those flag/decals. But then, I suppose that one can't do too much without turning it into something other
than a DG3, so I'm content.

Edit: ooh, these pics were bigger than I thought.. sorry..

Yayyyyyyyyyyy!
I've finally completed a repaint, and it works :)
FInishing up my other one now...
Does anyone know if there are any layer kits available for, say, the shuttle (or other spacecraft)?

Don't know about kits but I'm pretty sure there aren't any. BUT, you can open ANY .dds file in Photoshop using the
plugin and then just create the layers yourself from the original flat file. Would take a while, but people would
probably be very happy about it. I checked the shuttle textures yesterday. They ARE rather low-res. *hint*

I do remember someone on AVSIM made a Moonraker skin for shuttle. So I guess it's been done before.

It's finally done! :wc:
I wanted to make a complete repaint in a theme, so I decided to make one for McBrain Spacecraft (actually in this
case, what I thought was a cooler name, Brenton-McBrain Aerospace Inc.)  :turning:
It was a good learning experience. I found out the hard way for instance that the DG3 will sometimes use the default
DG wings (I think?) Either that or renaming my dgmkIII_#.dds files as dgmkIII_#.ddsbakupold doesn't make them
unreadable - as it kept putting the old wing bitmaps on...
Anyway, the spiffy new BMAI skin features new alloy wheel rims, pimpin' purple upholstered interior insulation, a new
Brenton/McBrain logo, the red/blue color scheme, the mcbrain-spacecraft.com URL, and some other little fun stuff on a
couple of the hatches/doors.
I want to add even more stuff but I should probably try a different theme for a change. Also, perhaps MB would like a
chance to work on his own darn design :)
Unfortunately y'all are going to hafta wait until tonight to see it, as it's way past my bedtime and it's my birthday, so
darnit, I'll upload it when I feel like it!
Happy orbiting!

I said earlier..

I'm not a really big big fan of advertisement, and if I put a fancy slogan on mine, it reminds me of two things: a
moving billboard, or a race car, neither of which I like the "look" of.

It's funny, but don't joke about such things... they have a habit to come true once they're mentioned. You just jinxed
nasa. And when they do that, everyone here will hate you. ;)

Well it wasn't quite done *perfectionist*
But it is now.
Well, sorta. I still don't have a thumbnail or a renamed mesh file. I just backed up the stock DG textures in \textures2\
and replaced them with these. :drink:
Did anyone else have a problem with the names? It seems that dgmk3xx.dds needs to be renamed dgmkIIIxx.dds but
the others work fine as dgmk3xx.dds... *confuzled*

Here's the URL - http://home.pacbell.net/ace_g/McBrainRepaintF1.zip

Better get it fast before the site gets shut down due to excessive traffic!  :)
Hehe, kidding, of course ;)

McBrain: *lol* Scary as that pic is, it'd probably be very easy to make a repaint out of...
Dare we?  :)

Should I host a "simply unzip in your Orbiter dir." version?
I will add some shine effects.

Why not? :)
I had a look at the spaceshuttle textures. It's not as easy as you think.
But feel free to try it! :)

:flowers: Thank you! Glad you like it!
Did all the files work? Granted number 2 (the interior) isn't that heavily altered or important but I thought it'd be worth
changing anyways. Actually those little people in dds 2 are my pet peeve with the DG - they look so "cartoony" in
comparison to everything else. I don't think I'm skilled enough to make them look any better, though.

Shine effects? Do you mean highlights, or is there a way to change the specular reflections?
Anyway, sure, host away!! I can come up with a thumbnail and the info to let you select it from the DGIII setup app
eventually, or you can do it (in which case it'd get done much faster)  :)
One thing I like about the DG is all the nooks and crannies you can hide stuff in. For instance my e-mail address, and
your website (besides where it's shown on the wing) are in there in various doors. It's like setting up an easter egg
hunt :)
As for the shuttle, I'm sure it's complex enough, but IMHO adding decals isn't that tough unless you actually want
shuttle textures and details (panel seams, rivets etc) to show up on the ads (giving them an integral painted-on
appearance). I was thinking more of a "sight gag" sort of quick n' dirty approach. Do we really want to spend that
much energy defacing our beloved shuttle? :hot:
Actually, the part that I had the hardest time with was remembering which way to orient and mirror the words in the
different .dds files so that they'd be front-ways-front on the finished product :wall:

Next up - old n' busted DG  :)

Happy orbiting 'till later!

Hi guys! Hi Aphelion!
I reworked the McBrain-skin a bit (I brightened the dark grey) and
made a "simply unzip in your Orbiter main directory".

Hope you like it! :)
