Heh, I was just browsing around the Official Forum and found this thread:
http://orbit.m6.net/v2/read.asp?id=7592

Isn't it sad? Otwherwise (presumably) intelligent people who brake down in petty fights?

Cheers,

New policy of Orbiter forum forbid those sort of thread now (it's an old thread) , read here:
http://orbit.m6.net/v2/read.asp?id=15644

Fortunately it will calm down the official orbiter forum. (it has already, you don't saw it but there was
some hard fight going last night, anyway the offending thread where deleted on sight)

And I must say this place (dansteph) have the same policy...

Funny you should mentioned it. I just found it myself a few minutes earlier and posted my view about it. It's not the
troublemakes, it's WE who encourage them by fighting them and basically taking upon ourselves their negative
energy.. In effect feeding them. Like energy leeches :)

I'm glad I missed that. I visit the official forum about once in two weeks.. Very carefully.. and usually I lose the wish
for another 2 weeks :)

On a related note, I suggest that Martin release the new version ASAP, in order to blow our minds away (from all that
bullshit) for some time again.

I mean, wouldn't it be cool, discussing atmospheric haze instead of who won the WWII? :)

A thread last night that lasted only 10 minutes in the forum was read 115 time during this 10 minutes....
I mean even if many of us choose to not respond to provocations there will be always someone
that will answer and put the forum on fire again....

Glob: Sure it was a sort of fun *somewhere* but those fight finally hurt everybody
and disturb us from intteressant post about Orbiter (which is the main purpose)
friend start to hate friend and finally anyone call name... that's not VERY intteresting.

Doc:
I would perhaps one time mount one political forum just for the fun (and to have pleasure to ban people he he)
but if I allow nice post here about politic or I state MY opinions we'll soon have some"edged" posts...
I would not accept those and will become either a dictator or let the forum die into deep sh... troubles.

In short,  I cannot allow one point of view and discard other point of view it would not be ethical
acceptable... so I decided there will be no point of view at all on "flamming subject" as politic. religious etc etc.
Sure it's less *fun* but once your forum is fried it's a big pressure on the moderator if he have a minimum
ethic and senses of responsabilities. Not a funny job at last.

Dan

I says, as long as it's in Off-topic, let 'em flame as much as they want. What's the problem with that? If you don't like
to be disturbed by such topics, don't read them. I mean, there's nobody holding a gun to your head, is there? :)

Ah, these discussions are not really to get anything done, just to pour energy off yourself and relax frustrations. Even
in the off-topics, some moderator does have to eventually erase old threads, make sure the traffic is not over the limit
and that the rest of the forum doesn't suffer delays from constant posting, so in the end it's easier to just forbid flame
topics altogether and let some other fool host them :) like Dan said.

Whatever :) Have a nice weekend guys.

hehe, Ok, now what I have to say, I agree that such things don't really belong in a space sim forum, but whatever
happens is cool with me, whether they're allowed or not. I personally didn't think that that thread was so offensive.
sure there was some swearing and name calling, but if you heard a fight between my two younger siblings, you'd
realize that that thread is nothing in comparison. the thread was actually pretty composed compared to some I've
seen in less... reputable.. forums.  Ahh, the stories I could tell.. totally mindless stuff that I'm not going tell. Ultimately,
I was tempted to post something of my thoughts on that thread, but the lazy in me got ahold, I don't like registering
for things. but talk off topic things, we were talking about languages in this thread, and now we're talking about
flames! hehe..

if this continues, everyone, we can wind up with a potential flame war over the definition of free speech and
how "evil" it is of moderators to do this, that, and the next thing. etc, etc...

Let's just forget about it and enjoy ourselves, k? ;)

That thread isn't offensive at all freespace, we speak about what was happening on
the official Orbiter forum (m6 forum) where the bad flameware was a norm lately.

I'm concerned by those because I think there is enough hate in this world so hearing
people opposing country and politic or religion issue and calling name each other
is something that must not happen.

In contrary, when people start to discuss normal things they often see after a while that Mr. X
that come from what they thought was an "evil" country is more often a good guy
like them, with the same problems, same mind and concerns.

I personnaly think that those flameware does HAVE a weight on the future: first come
sadness when you hear something stupid on your country, then revolte, then hate about
the other country, add a bit of economic difficulties, a *good* leader that can exploit
this hate and your set.

We can laugh about that saying that's not important perhaps as where laughing
people in 1930, at this time there was many many conference about peace and all
seemed well in a modern world....  war was definitively a things of the past.

We don't even need a war, a simple economic war can put million people
in distress.  Hate beetween country isn't a good things.

The final real truth is that we all sh* the same.

Dan

Aha, a new forum. Looks nice! And good idea about the multilanguage support. Are you going to specialize it in any
way, or is it going to be similar in topics to the official forum?

Cheers,

I am not sure if I am going to add a "main", addon, offtopic, (ect) section for each language, or if I will keep it like this,
with just 1 forum per language.

I think i'll keep it like it is now for a while.

Regards,
McDuck.

For a start I would really advise to keep one forum per language,
nothing worse than 15 empty forums for visitors, this give not the
envy to posts.

Scrooge: I'll put a link on my link page to your forum, any advise of the text
you want for the description ?
(also if you register here you will have advanced stuff as "who's online" and
instant message box (you can message any guy on this forum)

I agree. The discussions can take place in more languages, but the "business" part of forum, could just be in one
language. Besides, you have moderators. They can decide depending on demand :)
