Hi Dan,

With all the great 3rd-party addons (Project Alpha, TransX MFD etc.) Martin has bundled with the
latest Orbiter release, I couldn't help but wonder why Orbitersound was not included in the basic
install. After all,  firing Orbiter up without sound is kind of limiting, to say the least.
I would have thought a decent sound module would have have been one of the main things to
include to inspire new users.

Cheers,

Carl.

Martin has said many times that he leaves the spit and pollish to the Add-on makers. Besides if he
included too much, people wouldn't look for anything else.

It doesn't seem at first but writting a whole sound environnment isn't
a so simple task and it would add more headeach and problem to martin
and would also be time consuming for him.
So I bet he his glad that someone else took the task so he don't bother
with this and can have more time to the pure simulation code.

As for not include OrbiterSound I think it's a good things so the patch and/or
update of OrbiterSound is independent from Orbiter.

I regreat a bit that the link for OrbiterSound isn't provided at first place
near the base package's links but that's not my choice.

My two cents

Dan

Yeah...
The good doctor needs a link to your site, or a mirror to your +Very Essential+ addon in his
download site list.  Playing Orbiter without Sound, especially when visual Particles SCREAM for it,
is just.. Silly.
I understand he's developed a Science Sim, where old-school simmers know sound to be just
'bells & whistles' ((literally)), but Hey... !  :)
...Need I say more, guys?

I wonder if Martin would benefit from more comments about this directly.  His new PayPal link
suggests he's interested in growing his user base... I think a lot more newbies would get excited
a lot quicker if they had Sound along with their install.
I remember MY first comments, "Cool!! ...but wait, what's wrong with the sound?"
Thank god for Dan. :)

Not to mention... OrbiterSound is totally open for Configurability.  Not having to Code a new DLL
for each vessel Mod is a huge bonus.  It was just Luck that anyone bothers to click "related links"
and scans down to #7 where you notice the words "..including sound module."  Glad I did a search
for the word "sound" which stumbled me into Dan's magic world.
Once the Forum link gives you errors... not many people look much further. ;)

OrbiterSound as about 16'000 download , counting people that love it so much
that they download it twice ;) There should be almost 10'000 people that
have sound....

I wonder how many don't have it ? :wonder:

Anyway I'm sure none of the advanced user of the net don't have it...
my first reflex even before buying a game is too look about add-on
comment , review, link, related page etc etc.

Finnaly it's a kind of rewards for aware user :)

I raised a thread in martin's forum... seems like theres lots of noobs & elites alike who didn't know
about your sound addon for many months before finally finding out about it.  More and more I've
heard from people who quickly got frustrated or bored with the Soundless experience and never
came back.  ...Trying to evangelicize Orbiter's excellence to the masses has been complex.
Why aint the good Doc giving you a link as an 'optional' download at least, Dan?  Why?
WHY?  :friend:

I saw that :)
The tiny link is a martin choice don't know why he didn't put it in first place
perhaps he consider that sound isn't important (does it even run his test with it ?)

Anyway I can't myself ask him "hey , put MY link in first place"
I wasn't educated like that :drunk:

Anyway anyone typing "Orbiter sound" in google find my
page in 1st place so only the pure newbies
may miss it ? :wonder:

I have Orbiter on my work computer without sound. But then again I wouldn't actually do any
simming at work would I. :doubt:

It certainly dosn't make any sence to me why Martin dosn't at least add the Orbiter Sound link to
his download list. This is not just any add-on it's essential in my mind. Now Project Alpha is spit
and polish. Am I glad it's part of the standard load? Yes, but still I didn't mind having to go find it
for myself. To have to go search for sound is silly.

A question for Dan,
Did you ask for the OrbiterSound addon to included in the 'default' download ??

We never spoked with Martin about OrbiterSound
in our mail exchange so I don't know at all what he think
about it.

Well if you would like Martin to include OrbiterSound  in the next release, maybe you should try
asking him. Unless you don't want it to be included. :)

...by all means!  Get a little 'snooty', if need be.  :)
I'll even bribe Martin with a visit to PayPal if he features you in the download packages.
