Yet even the lack of backward compatibility is not as draconian as it might appear at first. Windows Vista also ships with DirectX 9C, which means that non-DirectX 10–compliant software will still run on your Windows Vista operating system. In fact, I had no problem loading and running some of my old-time favorites on Windows Vista. Specifically, Grand Theft Auto, Fear, Half-Life-2 (Lost Coast), and World of Warcraft all played without issue. Even old-school games like Fallout 2 ran like a champ.
