Salut, je vais écrire en anglais…
Mustard, there are a few factors that contribute for a Live Orbiter mission going well or not so well. They are:
a) the host's computer
b) the host's Internet connection (and also from the client)
c) capture / upload options + web page refresh and browser settings
d) Orbiter options / addons being used
a) My PC is a PIII@600Mhz , 384SDRAM , GeForce FX5200,WindowsXP... Yours seems to be more recent so that is not the cause…
However, regarding software, kill all unnecessary programs, especially non-needed stuff running in the background.
b) Your Internet connection also seems ok. But remember to transmit using a low common denominator for things such as file
size and quality (not all persons have adsl). To give an example, I try to limit my screenshots to 30KB... no more than 50KB max.
c) For the capture / upload options: if you wish I can post the parameters that now use for my LivePics page (based on all
the past experiments and also on some emails exchanged with the author of the program when he kindly contacted me after
knowing about my LivePics page – I enjoyed in particular the hint about the quality setting). For the html I believe that you already gave a look on my page
By the way, my current parameters changed a little since the last time they were posted here:
http://orbit.m6.net/v2/read.asp?id=21957d) Last but not least, and what will come next depends again from configuration to configuration…
I usually prefer to run Orbiter at 800x600 when doing Live transmissions: this gives me more desktop space to play with
other stuff such as to monitor my web page refreshes, to write things on a kind of live messaging system (this can be anything ranging from notepad, a desktop image that is updated, vMC messaging system, etc), when playing with pre-recorded media separators between live video...
Also, particular attention to what addons you are running… There are some that have heavy impact on FPS if certain conditions happen (heavy 3D models, autopilots, textures, etc)… In the end it all depends of your resources…
Final notes:
Some of the funnier moments I had with Orbiter were about people remotely controlling my spacecraft / having telemetry feed
from it and, at the same time, seeing the results on a live screenshot or in a live video window
This with a sound
software (for voice comms) is even better.
Ho, and if you are using Tursi's SCWebCam… There is an option there to generate thumbnails… and to keep the latest 100 screenshots online… For one example, see SimNASA's live page.
Hope this helped a little.
Humm, maybe one of these days I will do a new quick live session (screenshots or video)… perhaps showing some of the work in
progress in some addon fronts (SRB Launcher and a few other non-public / non-announced stuff)... I sometimes upload a new
image on my LivePics page (showing 3D models WIP in Anim80r, configuration INI for Vinka's dll, Orbiter images, etc) but from time now that I do not do a true Live Mission... even if it is just a quick flight test session
Good luck to your next live sessions,
António
