Hey all. fred18 was working on a really cool plug-in to allow for in game creation of vessels. He made the announcement here sometime ago: https://www.orbiter-forum.com/threads/vesselbuilder-for-orbiter.36956/

Project is under MIT: https://github.com/fredenigma/VesselBuilder1

I took the liberty of uploading the last good pre-release build here, as currently the only known download link requires an OF login:

Cheers

How the #$%* are you getting stuff that requires an OF login to download?
You were BANNED from OF, remember?

Maybe he posted it in a way that requires an OF login on purpose...

In God we trust, all others bring data.

Cause this guy doesn't give a crap what people who create content want, only what he's technically legally permitted to do.

He's pure toxicity, and wonders why OF banned him, lol

Yall are starting to sound unhinged. The author of the mod, Fred, uploaded it to GitHub and selected the license. He gave explicit permission for us to redistribute his mod by virtue of the MIT license, which he himself selected. We have no indiciation that Fred is against this whatsoever.

The reason we did this is because VesselBuilder is a mod that's being required by a few things and until now the only available source for it was an OF thread. Not only did it require login to download but also users cannot search for vesselbuilder mod explicitly.

Mods like this one: https://orbiter-forum.com/resources/flash-gordon-spaceship.5486/

Are referencing a vesselbuilder thread that no longer exists: https://www.orbiter-forum.com/showthread.php?t=40517

It's on orbiter-mods.com to reduce friction and make it easier for people to find vesselbuilder:
https://orbiter-mods.com/view/34/vesselbuilder-by-fred18

Likely Fred uploaded it to OF as an attachment because it's pre-release, and because Xyon (wraythe) broke orbithangar upload capability as far as I am aware.

If I could make a comment

Fred is generally very responsive to questions (except when he is not at home for professional reasons)
I hope you asked her permission...  :wonder:

But I think it's good all the same that you put it on your site, because the link in the OF discussion does not work anymore, and as far as I know, this module is not on OH.
Too bad, because the module is very useful.  ;)

Mes add-ons sont là !

I noticed that Fred was last online back in September on the OF, so couldn't reach out. But I don't think it's even necessary given that the project is under MIT. In short, Fred has already given permission by virtue of the license.

In fact at orbiter-mods we plan on building on top of the vesselbuilder plug-in. Have already forked it on GitHub. It's a very useful plugin but it's still a bit too cumbersome to use for end users. I plan on building a better MFD based UI with more sane default options. And ultimately the vision is to allow users to pull meshes from OF on the fly from the historical cache of mods/meshes.
