UCGO BUG

Bug with:

DG-IV2

Short description:

Skin changes back to the default Spacetech skin after exiting program

Severity

Moderate

Complete description

When you create a DG-IV2 in a scenario and apply a different skin to it, the skin changes as designed. If you exit the
scenario and then reenter via the (current state) scenario, DGIV2 skin will default back to the Spacetech skin.

Reproduce bug

Go into the Arrow mission scenario. Create a DGIV2 at any base. Change the skin to any other besides the Spacetech
skin.
Ctrl+Q the scenario. Reenter the scenario via the (current state) scenario from the Orbiter Launchpad. DGIV2 will be
back to
using the Spacetech skin.

Miscallenous

I could not reproduce that. The skin setting is saved for me.

Predictive calculation may lead to other bug and may not be accurate on all case.
If you don't disconnect the autoland it will finally land anyway so it's more a feature than a bug.

Okay- do this. Open the Cargo bay and add four pieces of normalized cargo. Leave the bay open, and exit the scenario. I
duplicated the issue.

EDIT: Okay- this is strange. It only happens with third-party skins. In other words, I can change to the Medical skin and it stays, but I change to the UCGO skin that I created and it does not stay.

Dan,
Is there something that changed in the design of the DGIV2 that makes the third-party skins not stay?

The camera centre of the external view is positioned too far to the back  (X-axis) of the vehicle

This is because the center of cars are the rotation point. IE: the rear wheels.

Ok. Then it's the same that I posted in last beta.

Sorry I don't understand this one.

There a limit max power and brake are now 140 instead of 40. Putting 5000 or 10000 of course would not change anything. 140
should be enough to give pretty fast cars. Let me know

Yes- especially since UCGO skins were released as a multi-skin package. I wanted to make sure the use could identify what
skin they were choosing. This is very strange.

I have an idea that could solve the problem with landing with a docked vessel !
you don't need to have the vessel always docked : when the bay doors are closed, make the docked vessel disappear
when you are in flight and open the doors, create a docked vessel
when you are landed and open the doors, create a vessel undocked, but on a lift (like azure)

Already brainstormed about that. Complex vessel would loose their status, crew, config, panel button state etc.
And this would not solve the problem of peoples that want to open the bay door or select their docked ship.

In brief changing a bad for a worse at the price of hours of work. Not worthy.

Dan,

My skin package can be found on your website:
http://orbiter.dansteph.com/index.php?disp=dgIVMore&DId=224

I just created a brand new install without UCGO and my skin stayed under those conditions.

I am going to post the scenario that is getting this action below:

Ok. I now tried it several times: I need 9 sec for 100km/h in landspeeder with 90 engine power. When I enter 140 for
engine power I still need 9 sec for 100km/h.

DGIV2 Bug Update:

This is what I did, and I was able to duplicate this on a fresh install.

1. Installed Orbiter, Orbiter Sound, DGIV, and then the DGIV2 .dll to patch the DGIV. (By the way, I liked the UCGO
advertisement at the bottom, Dan.)

2. I opened the Cape Canaveral to ISS DGIV mission. Changed from the Jovian mining skin to the UCGO skin. Exited. I came bak
in with the current scenario and UCGO skin was still there.

3. I  installed UCGO and went to the Jupiter Mission scenario.

4. I created a DGIV2 and positioned it at San Marco on Landing Pad 1 (which is actually in the sea)

5. I changed the skin from the Spacetech Skin to the UCGO skin. Exited. I came back in with the current scenario and the
Spacetech skin was on my vehicle!

6. Tested with the KSC to the ISS scenario and changed to UCGO skin. Exited. I came back in, and had the Spacetech skin. Exited. Came back in and changed the skin to my NASA skin. Exited came back in and NASA skin worked!

Conclusion: All of my UCGO skins are prefaced with word UCGO. I believe that somewhere along the load, Orbiter is seeing that UCGO name and looking into the UCGO directory instead of the actual skin directory. This is leading to the default skin being displayed. I believe this can be fixed if I modify the name of my UCGO files, unfortunately I have had 153 hits here and 78 on Orbithangar.

What are your thoughts Dan?

I could exactly reproduce this. (without 1 and 2 because I had UCGO installed)
When I changed your skin and started current state I had the standart skin. Just like you said. And I think you're right
that it only happens with your skins. (haven't tried it with other yet but it should be so)

Dan,

I changed the name of all of my skins to eliminate UCGO from their directory, and this fixed the problem.
Please let me know if this is the only or best solution!

All the best,

The load cargo search for line wich contain UCGO as in the arrow freighter:

Not a problem, I'll fix that... let it work like that is dangerous

One can see it on the other side:
Why not asking URMS to add Arrow, cars, DGIV-2, Cargo and UMmu to it's feature list ? :)

But in anyway that's the prototype of the bad idea: whatewer automatic hull detection the hose would always be connected at a
wrong location. (landing gear, fuel tank, side of wings, spoiler, window etc) ) Does such bad feature worth one month of work
?  Maybe if you have free time too loose otherwise no.

Awesome sir! That will eliminate any future issues with making add-ons with UCGO in the title too ;)

Yep, good detection sir... A good tester is the one that have enough bad luck to run in every problems possible even the very
rare one.

And you are an EXCELLENT tester Sun

Without joke you are un excellent tester that's true and it have nothing to do with "bad luck"

This said can you imagine the coincidence to detect what could have been an annoying and misterious bug with save?
Amazing ! 8o

I know that I can't avoid completely that but I'm always scared about the number of hidden & hideous that are still present.

Now my function detect "UCGO @@" string, there is a little chance that any addon have such name ;)

Dan

I found something out: when you use URMS to track an ummu, which you will eva back to the ship, there will be CTD
(but it has nothing to do with your addon, so ... ;))

will there be an antenna on the arrow (like DGIV), with the display that goes with it ?
