Yes, it is possible. And also very simple, BUT! First make backup of the "Textures2" files:
-first get some image converter (from DDS to anything that your editing program reads; in your case I advice JPG or
BMP, for GIMP). At the original Orbiter Forum Ar81 indicated one program I was very keen on, it was the DDS
Converter 2 (
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads10/dds_converter_v21.zip) but it don't seems to run on Vista, BTW,
does anyone know an alternative to DDS Converter that runs on Vista? My XP is getting too old.
Notice: this is the original posts where I get information about AddOns if you need some more information:
http://orbiter.dansteph.com/forum/index.php?topic=10888.msg173440#msg173440 and
http://www.orbitersim.com/forum/Default.aspx?g=posts&t=4531 one more thing: the first link has another link that
goes to the second, but I made your life easier:baaa:...
-The second thing to do is found the right files on the orbiter directory, because each time there's a mesh about
something the orbiter's core looks for the corresponding texture following a given (predetermined) folder path with
specific filename. So how do we do it? I use to think in the following way: for this example (UMMU), since UMMU is not
a regular AddOn (don't ask me why) it's texture files should be at "Textures2" folder, and... what a suprise! there's a
folder called UMMU (Dan is very organized
) go there and Voilą! There's all you need.
I discovered that the textures for UMMU inside DGIV and outside are different! At "Textures2" there's the folder ""this
is where the folder "SKINS" is but not inside "SKINS" there are the files you need if you want to change UMMU's
textures inside DGIV
-Third and last convert the orginal textures and edit them! As simple as that! Remeber what I said about how orbiter
handles textures; if you changed the files place in the directory or filename then you messed up. We talked about the
UMMU, but for PreludeII it's the same thing, the difference is on the where are the files (just look around the orbiter
directory for them in the same way I did to find UMMU's one) I think there's a SDK by Dan for PreludeII skining, but I'm not sure.
Good Luck!
