I was wondering what do you use backpacks for...
I am trying to find something fun to do with them.

Which kind of backpack? Or you mean TURBOPACK?

I have used the TurboPack to do a space walk, changing from one ship to another far in orbit, but my astronaut was
too fast and I lost him in space somewhere over india.

Hang on..... Planetary flight...... as in, one lone UMMU, traveling from Earth to Mars or something?????

That's... extreme.

I indeed was thinking about possible uses for Space Orbinomics.
If you want turbopacks supported, I would need some use for them.

I tried using them for a rescue in space, if you are in space using conventional UMMu thrusters may not save you if
you are descending to atmosphere, so packs could save your life, but packs lack aiming device and a way to use them
for accurate encounters or to adjust trajectory so you do not enter atmosphere before the rescue vessel arrives.

I also thought about using it to travel long distances.  Let's say you have an astronaut that is 5 miles away.  His O2 is
getting depleted.  Getting there with a spacecraft would be lethal if you collide with him or if retro thrusters fire at the
astronaut, and time to adjust an inertial rendezvous trajectory might not be an option, so the logic choice would be a
pack: wear a pack, go EVA and rescue your pal.  But there is no way to have some effective control of it to do such a
rescue.

But an astronaut using a backpack also would have problems to return to the vessel or he could smash himself
against the hull at full speed.  Backpacks need some sort of navigation aid to be more suitable for rescues.

Jeeze, I hope that wasn't directed at me...

Anyway, I think the idea of the packs was that they would be used mainly on the ground, not in space.

EMERGENCY RESCUE REPORT!!!!

Just recently, Astronaut Joe Drank the dumbest astronaut, flew up in his training craft into Europa orbit to
learn how to
use his new space suit.

On his EVA, he accidentally strayed too far from his craft and you have to rescue him! He is in 2300 km orbit and has
only 2:02:32 hours of oxygen!

Reward: $250,000,000

The SPACETECH company

ar81,

Since the DG4 doesn't have a robot arm for precision satelite placement - you could have a crew-member eva, grapple
the cargo, and move it away from the DG4 with the improved performance of the turbopack.

Also, I sould suggest you stick with somewhat generic missions - and let us orbinaughts figure out exactly how we're
going to accomplish them. =)

Good idea for EVA is that astronauts had ropes or chains grabbing the spaceship, like in real world, a way to prevent
from losing someone in space.
