We'd all like to create some cool skins for the DGIV, but some of us don't have photoshop and don't want to pay $ for it. Does anyone know a good alternative program (that's free of coarse)?

Did you install GTK too?
It is only included with the latest versions, some 2.3.x and 2.4 RC1

GIMP (Image editing software, somehow similar to Photoshop)

Notice that you need to download and install GTK+ environment if you want GIMP to run on your computer
