Dan, how hard would it be to allow multiple play lists in Orbiter Sound? That would open up a whole library of music
options if you could select different play lists. Right now I'm doing it by the drag and drop method. I have my folders
set up with different genres (sp?) and a play list in each folder. When I want to change from say Rock to Easy
Listening I just drop a different play list into the mp3 folder but it would be nice to be able to select play lists from the
cockpit.

It would not be hard but would complexify a bit the things for the common users
who would have to READ the doc to have this feature...  (ie provide mutliple list
and know how to call the MP3 mfd and switch from lists)

for now the directory is only scanned at OrbiterSound init so renaming
"on the fly" the list with a MFD would do nothing...

But if you just want to switch before the start of Orbiter you can do bat
file that rename your playlist in *.bak and *.m3u for the active one...
You can even have a menu in the bat to select the one you want.

OrbiterSound IV would allow more option OS3 was really done in a hurry
(it's amazing the low count of bug it have considering the short time I passed  on it
and the speed at wich I coded)

Dan

So far I haven't noticed any bugs in OS3. Except maybe for the fact that I can't just drop mp3 files into the
folder but I'm pretty sure that's system specific. Haven't seen any other posts from anyone else with the problem
(yes, I did remove the playlist file). Point is moot anyway since I installed Winamp. That method works perfectly.

What I was thinking was to have the MFD scroll through the play lists like it does the songs. Just a
simple "Next" "Previous" thing. You could have one playlist for Rock, Easy Listening, Classical etc... and each one
would refer to a folder where the music is stored (have to use winamp or similar for this to work). That way it would
simulate a full music library digitally stored in the ship's computer. Just perfect for those long flights.

What gave me the idea was setting up for my real time trip to Mars. Got the final parts ordered for my new computer
so this one I intend to dedicate to Orbiter for about six months. Got a DG III, Shuttle A2, Shuttle A and a work pod
hitched to Vespucci. Since I will have the Orbiter sim running in my bedroom for the duration I was thinking it'd be
nice if I could change music. Nice piano or easy listening is great to turn on at night while some soft rock and the
occasional heavy metal for day would be perfect.

Of course I can accomplish the same thing the way I'm doing it. I only need to copy one file. I have my original playlist
backed up in another folder and just copy/paste the one I want into the mp3 folder in OS3 but it'd be really slick to
have that same functionality right from the MFD without having to reboot Orbiter.

I agree it would be cool I'm sure I would do something like that for OSIV

Anyway I think that there is as much way to organise Mp3 as there is users,
I think that differents directory would confuse peoples and it's even hard to
really well organise (and maintain as our taste change quickly and many songs
can't be really classified).

So my idea would be this one:

You make as much playlist as you want and name them as you want "classical" "hard rock"
"classical hip hop" etc etc.

In a new MFD especially dedicated only for MP3 you than have those list displayed
you can change the playlist that play currently as well as the song in the playlist.

So if you hit "display list" button you will have your list like that:

1-classical
2-hard rock
3-"classical hip hop"

you select a number and the list load and start to play
and you have all the mp3 title displayed with back/forward button.

want to change the list ? hit "list" again and select another one.

Would this fit your need ?

EDIT: as the MFD really suck because there is really no place on them I think I would
have a look to the "built in dialog" style of Orbiter... this way you would be able to
have a Real Mp3 player with button and not only 15 lines on 3cm

Dan

That's even better than I was thinking of. Having them listed like that with buttons would make it look a lot neater. If
you could have something like 100 lists available with 200 individual songs on each one that would satisfy even
the most hard core music addict (20,000 songs 8o :music: ).

In Toronto, there is a wonderful station called Jazz FM.  I believe it's online, look it up.

One Sunday, in their airing of experimental music, they did two hours of South African Jazz.  Wonderful Mississippi Jazz but
overlayed with even more wonderful African percussive rhythms. A most enjoyable experience.

CF, take your racist attitudes and crawl back under your rock. Better yet, get a friend to help you place that rock properly.
From great heights with deadly accuracy.  Find a friend with an ethnic/racial background different from yours to explain how
pathetic your comment was.

Jazz...... hm..... yeah!! :)
I play piano in a jazz band on our local music school. :)

And CF, it seems you are a border-man. You balance on a razor blade edge with your postings.

And BTW: :off: :)

Hey Dan, a feature I've been asking for before:
How about separate playlist for launch, orbital, outer planets, etc. (musical themes)?
That would be really fun :)

@CF: I'd like to hear your music! And btw, you don't have to care about music that doesn't fit your taste! ;)

[ironic OFF]I'm patient. ;) I do not think you're bad, CF, but Dan may be right. You behave like a child. My 5 years old
twin brothers always try to get attention (shouting and screaming around) and maybe you do want attention, too. So
far, I don't mind you insulting me, but this doesn't mean that I welcome your behavior.[ironic ON]

Or most likely it's just a game to him. I've seen people like that on just about every discussion board. They come in
with unregistered accounts or throwaway accounts and try stir up trouble. If you ignore them they usually go away.
If you laugh at them they stay but remain just a curiosity. If you ban them they come back with another nick or by
way of proxy and keep agitating. Me, I'm more of the laugh at them type. It's really kind of sad actually. Someone
with nothing better to do than bounce around discussion boards and cause trouble. I bet he doesn't even know what
Orbiter is much less how to use the sim.

True. I don't mind such people insulting me, but I get pissed off if they insult you guys. Besides it's fun, not to mention
it's my job as a moderator to confront them. :)

The level of insult is in direct porportion to the validity of the person doing the insulting. If Dan or you or one of the
regulars insulted me I might take it much harder than if it came from some unregistered yahoo who has started
flames on half a dozen threads. From someone like this it's more amusing than insulting.

If Dan does it like he mentions above you can have a different playlist for each body in the solar system.

different playlist could be neat *in theory*

But somes bad things may happen, for exemple if you switch often
from one planet to another because you have several vessel in your
scenario the playlist will always restart.. that would not look cool.

Of course if I do that for OSIV it will be an optionnal stuff that would
be disabled by default...

Recall me that idea in the meaning time (when I start working on OSIV) ;)
