How about the ship blowing up instead of just text saying the ship blew up you are dead!.

Hi all

Ive got some ideas for the DGIII:

Something that the evas could repair could be good. Some circuits in the wings or something like that.

Obiously with the first idea you should need a Randomic Failure system that manage the first.

A lot of things could be done, for example when the evas moves in the earth or a planet or moon could move their
legs, or do a little jumps to move. That is no imposible, and I think that could do that the moving with eva be better.

The first one is hard to do because of a limitation in Orbiter. If you move too close (still too far away to be trying to fix
anything) to the ship then you kind of see right through the ship mesh. Not much that can be done about that
without a change in the way Orbiter renders meshes.

What about having some parts of the craft actually being "docked", like the Gemini package? This way you could take it out
and swap it. Maybe.

I know xwingace20, i think it is kind of weird that when you hit the ground real hard your landing gear goes out, it says
your dead and then the ship just bounces around.

I know whenhoboesfly, we totally deserve more for our money.   ;)
In all honesty, though, Orbiter doesn't provide that kind of *game* functionality.  Addons are limited in what they can
control and actually *add* to the base package.   Try the latest Deep Creator v2.1 from Right Hemisphere to simulate
bouncy thingies and make stuff break up with an interactive *game* gui .

I think that the best idea about dgIV is to make it open-source, so everyone can impliment his ideas.

I noticed that refuelling of DG III is not realistic because, when docked, the fuel you embark is not drained for the
vessel you're docked at, so basically, you build up fuel from nowhere!
I was thinking of an implemented fuel system for DG IV like:
- multiple fuel tank (also external if feasible)
- fuel transfer capabilities between tanks, like you can do on DG IIIwith main/rcs tanks, but with external fuel tanks;
- fuel transfer between docked vessels (also space stations defined as vessel and with a fuel reserve)
I think that would be possible since I've seen already a vessel with those features working perfectly:
the "Shuttle-A2" addon which you can find at Orbithangar mods.

True! :) To be honest I just like the idea of a failure that requires greater care during re-entry, and the overheating
fuel tanks were the only one I could think of that would be relatively easy to implement (My reasoning being that
conformal tanks don't need alterations to the current DG mesh, and that the re-entry display already shows
temperatures so much of the code would already be implemented).

Perhaps one excuse:
The tanks are made from ultra-lightweight materials and are only intended to withstand ascent and the temperatures
resulting from exposure to sunlight, hence

a) at high temperatures the tank itself, along with the trace amounts of fuel, may disintegrate with potential
damage to the DG's hull (though this seems a bit of a feeble excuse for a fatal failure!)
or
b) The tanks contain small thrusters - intended to controllably de-orbit an empty tank from at least LEO - and just
enough propellant to do catastrophic damage to the DG's main tanks if overheated...

It'd be great if someone can think of a more logical excuse!

My "logical excuse" for jetisonning an external fuel tank (and why failure to do so is a bad thing)
(clears throat)

Depending on how you shape the tank it would be a hazard in re-entry because it heats up much faster than a relatively
aerodynamic wing does. It also disrupts air currents. So you might have superheated air currents heating the re-entry surface
of the wing (or wherever you want to put it) many times faster than normal. This would be a big hazard in re-entry before it
breaks off or desintigrates. And I think it safe to say that it would take alot of acceleration to break off a tank that has
to stick to a ship with an engine as strong as a DGIII.

(Just an attempt. Correct me if this is a stupid comment, because I need to know these things.)

I also like the random failures, by the way. I think it would be great to have non-random failures as well (as set in the
scenario file to go off in X seconds, or whatever) or more interesting failures EX: fuel leaks, atmospheric containment
issues (ouch), generator failures... etc. Keep up the good brainstorming, y'all.

So long as you have set times for a failure in a mission, it would be nice to base that failure time off of other variables.
For example you could set the number 2 engine to fail at 2 Gs, or control surfaces to fail at a specific dynamic preasure.
Also, having a random setting (% chance to fail every X seconds when ship is expencing a min. G force) would varry things up.
So your ship could fail only sometimes when you push its limits.

How about a deploy-able solar panel to supplement the power system.

Oh you can use the antenna for something now, watching TV. Of course you can't see the picture because you are in
command and it would prove as too much of a distraction, but you can monitor the system.

I am using the satellite that came with the delta-tugs for its visual impressiveness, but you can use the satellite that
comes with the standard space shuttle package

Stick the code in a scenario then start your antenna and set it to Ship->Sol-TV

Code:

Sol-TV:SkyLinkSat
  STATUS Orbiting Earth
  RPOS 25643498.82 -10524407.84 22566951.40
  RVEL -2326.478 -994.063 2181.088
  AROT 155.59 46.56 67.30
  PRPLEVEL 0:1.000
  THLEVEL 0:0.000
  NAVFREQ 0 0 0 0
  XPDR 0
  DEPLOY 1 1.0000
  APSTATE 1
  TUGSTATE 2
  SPROTATE 0.039
END

Some kind of sensor suite.

Telescope.

Radar.

Manipulator arm.

Escape pod.

Detachable cockpit.

A pink Hippo as a passenger. OK, maybe this one didn't came out as cool as I thought.

I can't believe no one's asked for a cocktail waitress yet.  Fully anatomically correct model, too, please...none of that
2D stuff ;)

What the heck, since Dan's just sitting there giggling to himself ("Those fools, the DG4 is years away at the very
least").....I want to see Windows XP in the MFD screens ;)  There, that oughta hold you for a while!

Why would you want a crashed MFD?

free for your enjoyement it's still not enough and that I don't
deserve now to earn money from my work so my familly can live ?

I feel your message really insulting and unfair...

I think any money dan has made is very well earned, I think that dgiii is the best orbiter craft, and i have also looked into
hos other works such as fspassangers which i highly recomend to all users of fs2004

I do, too, although I was kind of hoping MadMike's post was just an innocent joke meant to congratulate Dan's success with FsPassengers (that's how I read it at the time---if there was a "wink" smiley at the end, its humorous meaning would've been much more obvious), rather than a serious poke at him....but maybe I read it wrong?

I hope so, Dave.. possibly wishful thinking, though.
Dan deserves all his earnings potential... Big-time.   :friend:

I think Dan will end up leaving the DGIII basically as is, and POSSIBLY start a DGIV with an Entirely different Rig
(starting from the ground up) ...waaaaaay down the road.  ...But I wouldn't mind if Dan gave up freeware and
just took care of his family.  Times are tough, kids grow, money's tight.  Forces the capitalist out from the best of us.

Party-on, guys... enjoy what Dan has made for you.   ...I'll pop in again, after my sabbatical.   :drunk:
