OK, well, this has got to be the funniest name for an Orbiter addon ever :)  Good one, Dano!

Hmmmm....this is a rather pointless post on my part.  Hmm.  Let's see...maybe we could use this post for tacking on
questions about OS3 when it comes out?  Yeah, that's it!

Strange ....

I thought I'd hit the mute button on OS 2.5.  But it was actually the 3.0 beta !!!???

Will the sound fade out slowly as you climb higher in the atmosphere or will it be quiet from one moment to the other?
I suppose the first thing! :)

You suppose right... putting it simply on/off would be really dumb...

That will take some getting used to after all the sound I've been getting in my daily space fixes lately... :)

Anyway, will there be more sound effects inside the cabin?

(like air conditioning, tank stirring and that sort of thing.)

Air conditionning you have it already and you ahve alos the 9 random ambient sound
as previously anyway the new SDK or OrbiterSound for vessel creator allow them to replace
many sound with one function, up to them to use this feature and customize their vessel's sound.

Notice that now each vessel can have a unique set of sound, mean that you can have
up to 60 vessel that have each up to 60 different sound into one scenario.

that could make 3600 sound per scenarios... :)

Now we just need that author use this feature....

all eyes are now on docholiday's ascent scenario.....

but yeah, I know that AC and stuff is in there..

but I was kinda hoping for some more sounds, with me being the spoiled brat I am. :)

I dunno.. maybe some extra random clunking noises if something is damaged and you try to use it....

You would still be able to hear all the stuff in the cockpit though, because the cockitp has air. So you would still hear
everything on the cockpit view, like in 2.5. Right?

Sure, with only some minor modification, for exemple the
main thrust look more bass in internal view than in external
but you have the sames sound than 2.5

i think that a good addon to orbiter sound would be to put a space shuttle launch sound that is realistic, but is
triggered by location such as: launch liftoff sound, lighning rod cleared "the tower is clear", roll manuver "shuttle: roll
program, control: rodger roll:. srb sep, oms assist, and the orbit manuvers and finally the tank sep, the deorbit
clearance and the chaser radios.

My test have shown that while OrbiterSound is universal it's impossible to dedicate it especially
for one add-on...

If I do a marvellous sound for the atlantis (wich is of course really possible) it will sound ridiculous
with the small shuttla or other glider.

ANYWAY (why I'm yelling like this?) :)

The OrbiterSoundSDK a C++ library bundled with Orbiter sound)
contain somes simples function that allow authors of add-ons to achieve wonderful sound effect.
Using this library they can control the behaviour of OrbiterSound and use more sound or replace
the stock sound by their hown (the DGIII have that, it use 60 more sound+the 60 sound of OrbiterSound)

So in brief such a specific things has to be implemented on a "per ship" basis by the authors
of those ships.

OrbiterSound give all the tool for that. And they are simple to use.

Anyway I just changed the sound on the beta I don't think we would be able to make a take-off louder
without exploding the speakers :)
(seriously doing more will see the sound completely distorded)

You obviously don't have sound capacity to match mine. ;)

even if you'll distort the sound by boosting it more, you can always turn up the volume on the speakers themselves. :)

That would be the most realistic, and as I'm a "vampire" that usually sleeps during the day, I'm likely to wake up
everyone within a 1 mile radius of me when I launch. :) (and of course it's important to note that a mile is bigger than
a km. :))

mmm... so~

any chance I can get my voice in OS, hidden as a cameo or something?

I'm willing to say just about anything! maybe something to replace that clip from space odyssey in the
soundconfig.exe?

*nudge, nudge*

OK, I'm stumped....how can I save another mp3 file to my WinAmp 5 playlist??  I can add the file, but how do I save
the playlist itself?

in winamp, there's that little "load list" button, when clicked on, will turn into three buttons, new, save, and load.

I think you can take it from there,

Bah...winamp.
Luckily, I don't need it to modify the playlist... *pokes Windows Media Player 10*
Anyway, Dan...
I noted that the mp3s don't play in 5.1 (while the rest of OS does). Although, I suppose it can be hard to tell when the
engines are going. I did test it in space via the external view and still, no 5.1...:( Unless this gets fixed, I'll stick to
my previous way of having music in Orbiter (running Windows Media Player in the background, loading it first so it gets the
5.1). Freespace, sound like we have a similar setup soundwise...:)

hehe. I only use an ancient version of winamp. (2.91)

I swear by it. Personally, though. If I want to listen to mp3's while orbiting, I'll just load winamp before playing.

And I won't touch windows media player with a 10 foot pole, that's how evil it is. I toy with the generic "classic" one
at times, and keep version 7 installed (I won't go further than that)

and you haven't lived unless you have surround sound, Dan. ;)

surround sound is to two speakers, what two speakers are to no speakers. :)

Good darn, Dan!

This new OS is BEAUTIFUL!!!

I spent playing around with it all evening last night, instead of working! I'm actually gonna take the rest of the week
off, so I can catch up on my afternoon work and do some Orbiting!!

BTW: Since you're patching OS. I have two requests:
1. Would it be possible to add some kind of controls regarding the "space music". Something like Next/Prev Song?
2. Either that, or a way to randomize the playlist, like winamp does?

Perhaps some bugs:
- I can't heat the sonic boom even though I see there are .wavs for it. How and when does that happen? I presumed
Mach 1 at any altitude, but it doesn't seem to be as simple as that..
- Also I didn't notice doppler effects with the engine sound, even though the DEBUG window shows changes in
frequency..

Cheers,

I could've edited my last post, but I'm going to leave it there as public evidence of my own imbecility ;)  As Dan was
just kind enough to point out in his email reply to me (which I received only seconds after I made my last post), SHIFT-
R will bring up an MFD screen that lets you select Next/Prev MP3, and turn sound on/off.
