I have read the FAQ, but I still cannot get the ascent autopilot to load correctly.  Even if I fly really low, and try to
activate it right around 220 m/s, it tells me that the ascent autopilot program is halted and doesn't do anything.  Am I
missing something?

Press the execute button! Or the 'e' button on your keyboard.
While the autopilot is running, don't press 'killrot' or any other autopilot.
