Hm.. seems cool. Try coming to a complete stop, keeping the nose level, and helping yourself to keep altitude with
the hover engines. Then when you have 0 horizontal, ease the vessel downwards with the hover engine, or perhaps
use the DG3 autodescent autopilot..?

It may be impossible, I know. I'll try it also.

My next test will involve going into an extremely high orbit and gathering up enough speed and at such and angle to
do a dangerous flyby. maybe I'll also try a direct flight from the moon to earth without turning around half way, that'd
be fun. crash into the earth at an insanely fast speed, even for orbiter. (if the atmoshere doesn't instantly vaporize
me the second I touch it.)

Blackbox recording:

"Freespace, same results with me. I began breaking too late with the hover engine and slammed into the lower
atmosphere. The temp levels are rising rapidly, altitude is 45km, AOA 95 degrees, speed passing 1500m/s. The hover
engines are at full, but have almost no effect. Mayday, mayd.................."

The rescue team arrived to find vapour clouds around the floating spacecraft, as the melted heatshield of the DG3
cooled down rapidly. After noticing the open canopy doors, the rescue team fostered hopes the crew or at least the
pilot of the vessel may have survived the tragic event. We are awaiting further details from the scene, but it would
appear all hands were lost. The open cannopy may be the result of the automatic computer system purge function
designed to open cannopy door in the event of an accident in atmospheric conditions to enable the crew to bail out.

The accident happened after the spectacular experimental technique of earth reentry was attempted. The pilot
reported all instruments green at a height of 50km, then a few seconds later contact was lost as the vessel's hull
temperature went beyond acceptable limits and the vessel ignited. The pilot may have been alive long enough to put
the craft into an almost horizontal attitude enabling it to lang relatively safely, even after the pilot lost his life.

Hilarious.. I have nothing else to say.. Oh, why were we doing that again...? oh yeah, testing....
needless to say, I only did that to examine the G-forces. I would reccomend that next time you send up people that
you *DON'T* like.

I know, wasn't sure if it would, but forgot to include the active link.

Here:
http://www.vidmar.org/orbiter/images/index.html

Guess I set the directory not to allow offsite referencing.

oh, IRC is Internet Relay Chat. Was pretty heavy about 10-15 years ago. The chatting was done in a text only
environment, then came mIRC, web chats, forums (which used to be BBS) etc.

Well, me off to sleep now.

Hope CNN doesn't hold it against me. It's in good fun, plus the logo is ancient :)

Cool, thanks Doc. Nice one. That reminds me, Dan would it be possible for the bottom of the DG to glow red on re-entry?

Heh. The word kamikaze sounds ironic to me right now.

Japanese lesson:

kami = divine, godly
kaze = wind

you should see why it's ironic why such a term became known as it is today.. much more so concerning the intentional
accidents we're pulling off over here. Man, I need to get me a webby, then I'd be able to post pictures...
