Dude...just re-install Windows if the problem is that important to you and if it's bugging you that
much.  Once you re-install Windows, if you're still having a problem, then it's a hardware issue.

You may have tried this already, but it might be worth a try to get the latest video drivers for your
card and install them.  I had strange issues with a disappearing HUD in Orbiter until a few releases
of the ATI drivers ago.

Also, Dan's a nice guy, but really it's up to you to figure out what's wrong with your computer!  If
others are also having the font problem then there might be a coding issue, but if it's just you then
there must be a configuration problem on your system.

I was extremely frustrated with the disappearing HUDs also, but there wasn't much I could do
other than ask around to see if anyone had a fix...

I think you don't have the correct page code installed on your computer
perhaps it miss you some ISO code page or something like that ?
(I'm not confident in those setting)

Anyway as it work for everyone it miss you a "standard" code page.

Go to "international" setting and try to see what is missing.

IF it was Win98 it would be Start>Settings>Control Panel>Regional Settings>Regional Settings
Properties.  Pick one off the list, in my case it's "English (United States)"  :)

Another thing to look at is which version of DirectX you have on your computer.  If you are running
Win95 or Win98 it should be the most recent DirectX 8.  If Windows ME, NT, or XP then it should be
DirectX 9.1.

If you are running Windows 98 and have a version of DirectX 9, then THAT's your problem, since
Win98 won't support DX9.  What video card is it?

Huh!  :wonder:

I am running Win98 SE with DirectX 9, and no problems whatsoever, with Orbiter or anything else.
Of course, it is Second Edition.

Whoops, sorry - you're right Dave.

Windows 95 does not support DirectX 9 - Win 98 does (both original and SE).

In any event, jgrillo - you should be running DirectX 9.0b runtime.  If you are not, you can
download it at:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=141d5f9e-07c1-462a-baef-
5eab5c851cf5&displaylang=en

If that isn't the problem, and the other fixes listed on the board haven't worked for you, then it's
probably hardware.

I personally have had good luck with Orbiter using any card with a NVIDIA chipset, especially the
GeForce2 and GeForce4 cards.

Definitely make sure you have 9.0b.  There a a number of fixes in it that correct specific problems with DirectX 9.0 and 9.0a.
