OK, I'm just thinking out loud here...I'm wondering if the new DG3 should have a name? After all,
when Ford Motor Company releases a new car model, they don't just call it the "Ford 38", they
give it a name like "Focus" or "Ranger". Especially if Dan's selling the new model for 1,938 space
credits, my vote is to give it a name
and then have it painted on the fuselage next to the
cockpit.
If you ask me, I like "Paix" (French word for "peace"). Or perhaps "M. Aronnax", in honour of the
French scientist from "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea."
Thoughts?? Other name suggestions?
Cheers,
Dave

LOL oh come on......DG3 is okay, but I still think the ship needs a REAL name!!
I really like the idea of "Aronnax" printed just below the cockpit.
ehhh....I guess DG3 would work if you guys don't want a real name!
Cheers,
Dave

Sirius would have my favor.
Anyway I tink this would be a "class" name instead of a ship
name because with skins you can end with several different
vessel. So it could be something like:
type: DGIII
class: Sirius
ship name: different for each skin
Else Sirius or Aronnax could be just one ship's (skin) name.
Anyway I think everyone will always refere to it as "DGIII add-on" otherwise it will
be too much confusing
Dave if you feel well with this, (your a writer after all
) why not adding
a fictionous "history" section in the doc ?
years of construction of the class DGIII a litle story how it went, and perhaps
one or two anecdote about some vessel of this class (you can even name one "Aronnax" )
If you do so I may make a special skin that fit the story. (yes with "Aronnax"
printed below cockpit ... appealing isn't it ?
)

Hmmmmm....I see what you're saying, Dan, about people getting confused unless you just call it
the DeltaGlider 3. The only problem I have with something like "class" is that usually,
different "classes" of ships are substantially different designs, not just different names.
I guess we could just have the "DeltaGlider 3" class, and within that, different names of ships (on
different skins). For instance, the medical spacecraft skin could be a DG3 class ship named
the "Pasteur". When downloading the ship from AVSIM, it could be called "DG3--Pasteur". Make
sense?
And I had the idea that these ships would be constructed in DanSteph Yards near Habana Base
OK, so here's the Aronnax's story:
In 2019, the Aronnax was christened and rolled out at Habana. Its maiden voyage was to Mars
via ISS. Its two-man crew reported that the ship "handled well", especially the new hover
autopilot system that was a major part of the DeltaGlider 3 class's redesign.
Sorry I can't do better, I just got home from school and I'm feeling sick as a dog
Cheers,
Dave

I have to agree with Dan. Call it the DeltaGlider III (There's certainly been enough upgrades
to warrant that moniker!) and leave any other naming conventions to those that want to edit
thier own custom textures. That will maintain the universal appeal for the DGIII, and still
give Dave and others a chance to put thier own names on the DGIII. (Maybe Dan can put
the specifications for the textures in the docs, if they aren't already there, regarding alpha
channels, mip mapping and anything else?)

For the texture it's brand simple: if you know how to repaint
the stock Deltaglider, you know how to repaint also the DGII.
The only things that is different take about 40 seconde:
copy the original DeltagliderIII.mesh rename it to what fit your
skin eg: "DeltaGliderIIIbrown.mesh" "DeltaGliderIIISirius.mesh"
edit it wis notepad go to the end, replace the 5 texture's name
by yours.
End
The DGIIconfig is programmed to recognise those mesh name.
for texture I save them all in DXT1 full mipmap.

Idea.
Since we more or less agree that it should be called DeltaGliderIII (I like Polli though!), we might
as well change it to DeeGee. Kind of like what they did to Jeep (originally it was GP as in "general
purpose") or Humvee.
Deegee then?
Best,
Janez / Doc

I think DG3 is simplest and clearest, if we're not going to name it by individual names.
