Hi Dan,

I have experienced on my first 2 flights with DG2 a system crash and complete sound loss after I
dock with the ISS and complete the power down check list.

It seems to occure at the exat time I Shut down the APU:

1 - Loss of all sound.
2 - Unable to restart APU afterwards. ( start up impossible ) Data indicates N2 running, but no
sound and unable to turn on Gen's.
3 - Ctrl-Q does not bring up the orbiter main screen, rather my computer hangs and Mouse frozen.
CTRL + ALT + DEL does not work at this point.

Computer hard reset needed and scan disk runs.

This happened twice in a row.

System:

P3 - 450
512 RAM
Geforce2 MX 400 (32) - updated drivers
Win 98se
DirectX 9x
Yamaha sound.

Your sound file 2.5 loaded.
Orbiter 030303 High res text.

DG2 settings:

personal pilot
11 created passengers ( 4 chosen )
O2 - N2 reserve = 7 days
realistic fuel
Allow docking refuel
Chicken Mode

note: I also have the low sound bug that I read someone else had. I will try to reload the v2.5...
It worked for the other fella. Also I will delete my user made passengers and set for random.
and remove chicken mode.

If you have any other idea why this would occure, or how to walk around it, Ill try anything.

P.S. Very Nice work on the DeltaGlider2. Salute!

Hello Again...

I tried again after a fresh install of Orbiter as well as Sound 2.5 and DG2.
I still get the same problem. :help:

Also when I start the sim from DG2 docked with ISS. I get the same result. There is no sound and
the apu wont start, ( well it does acording to the status MFD ) but I am unable to set the Gen's to
on. It says the apu is not started.
Uhh Buhh?

So I found a walk around of sorts to save current while docked at the ISS from a KSC takeoff.
" Leave the apu running with gen's on" then I CTRL Q from there and it seems to save current.

When I return to current though, I see that all is ok But the inner hatch was closed for some
reason and the pressure was 0.
I simply represurized the airlock and open the inner hatch and Im good to continue the start up
check list.

Today I will try to return to KSC from the ISS and see if I can turn off the apu once on the ground.
Later I will try the Mir dock and Wheel dock to see if it's does the same bug as the ISS and will
even try a lunar landing at  base to see if it does the same thing or not.

As near as I can figure so far as to what may be doing this.  After the APU gets shutdown at the
ISS, there is no Wind sound ambiance like when landed on earth. when I started from earth I was
able to shut down and restart the apu with no problems.

I'll let you know what happens once I land at KSC and try to turn off APU. If it works then mabey a
conflict between Apu shut down and wind sound vrs apu restart.

Salute!

Seems to be a fair assumption.

I landed at KSC in one piece and did the shut down check list and this time the apu shut down
went as listed. I was able to restart the Apu and CTRL Q out of sim and current was saved.

Sure enough the wind background sound was present. It's almost like if the apu shut down sound
is not followed  by the wind sound, thats when the crash occures. Wierd...  :wonder: It may be
something else, but this is the only patern I can see so far. What's it all means??
unknown?? :wonder:
As I am only a newbette and don't realy understand the " coding aspect "of the sim, I am at a loss
for a more viable fix.

So for my next test to confirm my findings, I shall now try docking with MIR and try my shut down
first ( APU ON ) and then CTRL Q. Ill return and see what happens when I continue to a full ship
shutdown.

Future tests:
-Wheel station moon orbit docking
-Moon base landing

P.S. once you get XP up and running I hope to hear your thoughts on this Dan :music:

Salute!

Hello,

Sorry to not answer so fast I'm busy with my complete reinstall :wc:
as my xp is really customised usually it take me sometime
(I'm still in the middle of the process)

For your problem I follow your message closely but I don't have so much
idea for now... :wonder: perhaps the scenery is corrupted or does something that your
computer doesn't like ? (you don't have such problem with other dgII scenery?)
APU shutdown does mainly internall things (electrical etc etc)

keep writting perhaps with more symptom I will be able to give you an answer ?

Hi Dan,

All other scenery seems ok. :wonder:

I docked at Mir as planned in my last post, Same bug came up. After I do the APU shutdown all
sound is muted somehow, and the APU would not restart.
I tried something different after the bug came up, I pressed F3 and selected SH-01, the sound was
there after all but was muted in the background while in GL-01. I switched back to the GL-01 and
the APU was finaly started. Wierd.. :wonder:

I tried this also at ISS but the result was different: I heard the apu sound come up but the system
just crashed in a couple of seconds to desktop with error. ( although instead of SH-01 I used GL-
02 = DeltaGlider 1 Original at ISS test).

Future testing:

-Wheel Lunar Station.
-Lunar Landing at base.

Will let you know how it goes. :drink:

Mhhh do you have antifall module by any chance ?
what other module do you have ?

If you don't have any problem when you restart
with a saved scenery (either quitting or CTL-S)
then it's the scenery that aren't good....

Try this:
Once you enter in a scenery that you know have problem
CTL-S and quit immediatelly then restart with the saved scenery...
if you don't have anymore problem... bingo !

Another things that I know can cause problem
try to figure if those make some change for you:

1- scenery that start with outside view instead of panel view
2-high-res texture (Orbiter/texture2/dgmkII_3.dds usually this cause
problem on lower card spec... geforce should be able to handle that)

You may try to move the dgmkII_3.dds texture from the texture2 folder

Hope it help ? (btw what is your usuall framerate with dgII in orbiter ?
dgII seem to be more sensible with "low" processeur)

Hi Dan.

I hope your XP rebuild is going well.

Yes I do have antifall loaded and enc ( encounter MFD )

It was my understanding that without antifall the orbits would decay after a long period at warp
100x, Like when I do a lunar mission. Not sure about this but I don't run warp over 100x anyway.
but I read with antifall that an orbit at warp 100 taking LESS than 63 seconds would decay orbits...
hmmm Ill try to remove antifall and work on some of the other suggestions you have just
mentioned.

Ill keep in touch. :)

:???:

Hi Dan:

>Mhhh do you have antifall module by any chance ?
>what other module do you have ?

I tried removing antifall and enc, with only OrbiterSound  module on.

8)=Still the same sound loss bug :(

I tried:
>Once you enter in a scenery that you know have problem
>CTL-S and quit immediatelly then restart with the saved scenery...
>if you don't have anymore problem... bingo !

8)= Same problem... No Bingo Honey. :)  ah if only it was that easy :) he he.

I tried:
>Another things that I know can cause problem
>try to figure if those make some change for you:

>1- scenery that start with outside view instead of panel view

8)= I always save/leave orbiter from pilots seat :)  nope thats not it :)

I tried:
>2-high-res texture (Orbiter/texture2/dgmkII_3.dds usually this cause
>problem on lower card spec... geforce should be able to handle that)

>You may try to move the dgmkII_3.dds texture from the texture2 folder

8)= Thought you had something there :) but nope.. same deal, loss of sound and no apu restart +
CTD with error when trying to exit orbiter with APU shutdown while docked ISS or Mir.

btw... ;)
(btw what is your usuall framerate with dgII in orbiter ?
dgII seem to be more sensible with "low" processeur)

I average between 30 FPS - docked Mir with stars in view to-
20 FPS - docked Mir with high res earth in view.

:wonder: :wonder: :wonder:

It's no biggy, really Dan. :)  I just CTRL Q the stations with apu on. thats all. :) and continue from
there. The DeltaGlider II is the best experience yet, regardless of the minor walk around I need to
make to get it to work for me. My imagination fills in the blanks :) ( " I have to leave the internal
power on in the event the Mir main bateries suddenly fail and we need to get out fast. or the toilet
won't flush :wc: and is backing up, lil yellow balls floating in the station making contact with the
instrument panel, sparks flying everywhere and the station RCS is going crazy.. get out.. get out
NOW... OMG.. it's breaking up get to the glider now.... shut that hatch... close it, close it... no...
don't open it again...it's to late for him... we have to go now... Pant, Pant, Pant... :( poor
poindexter, I realy realy liked him too :( ")

Giggle :drink:  Sorry got caught up in it for a sec :)

Ill let you know how it reacts on the Moon base. I suspect Ill get the same problem on the wheel
station. will be interesting to know if the Moon base will be bug free. If it is then mabey it,s a
speed related thingy rather than the earth wind sound.. heres to the Journey.

Thanks for trying Babe... keep that Wheel turning :)

Good Morning Dave....

oops I mean Hi Dan. :)

Docked with lunar-OB1 station, same bug.
I just have one more thing to try. I am hoping the moon base landing will be like earth KSC, where
I can finaly turn off the poor APU. :)

:off: On another item of interest I was wondering if you knew how to make a station built by
someone else into a ship format rather than the standard station format. Kind of like you did for
ISS, Mir and Luna-OB1... the Station im interested in is the LRS from voyager's website. the info for
it is as follows:

LRS:LRS
  REF Moon
  EL_MJD 51544.5
  ELEMENTS 2008000.0 0.00681 48.000 0.000 0.000 0.000
  AROT 0.00 0.00 -72.91
END

I would like to to have it run as a ship/station like you did for ISS and Mir etc...
Also I need the rotation reversed, as it is now it rotates counterclockwise to the moon.
Also if possible null the orbit to ecc .0009 or less and at 0 degrees right on the equator.
and perhaps a raise in altitude. if possible to about 350 K

I have tried to do it myself by looking how the Luna-OB1 is set up for DGII, but im doing something
wrong. It's not doing what I would like it too. I just don't understand how the data entry controls
these variables.. yet :)

Not sure if this can be done, but I don't know anyone else that may have the ability to do this.
although I'm sure many other programers know how.

can you help? :help:

Woot.. I got it.. :)

I think I was able to get the LRS where I wanted it.. I simply flew the DGII at the orbit I was
looking for, for the new station. then ctrl - Q, I took the information from the DGII orbit and placed
it for the LRS. tweaked a couple of things and it seems to work as planed.

:)

Looks like:

LRS:LRS
  STATUS Orbiting Moon
  RPOS -2063063.57 181503.60 -240566.44
  RVEL 178.511 12.658 -1523.245
  AROT -0.49 6.58 4.94
  IDS 0:548 100 1:538 100 2:528 100 3:518 100
  XPDR 455
END

he he, It's starting to make a lil more sense to me now.

P.S. I also got 50 FPS last night while floating back to earth from the moon.

OH. and no I still had to keep the APU on at the beach ( moon base ) But it's ok. it was a nice lunar
landing, some of my best flying yet. Using the auto re-entry program, I pitched up 40 deg, as I
would for earth, and used hover trusters to control my lift and speed adjusting pitch and power to
establish a nice umm... glide slope as it were. :)

After I left the moon ( new LRS station ) I made it back to Mir with 50% fuel remaining. :)Not bad
realy when you consider all I used was the orbit and encounter MFD to achieve lunar escape and
earth capture.

Again, thanks for the great work on the DGII, It makes the journey all the more interesting. :)

Hello Dan.

Yes I'm a girl :)  silly.

I live in Ontario, Canada and I am 25. I have always loved sims, whether it be flight ( MSFS2000 ),
(FLY), even (Falcon 4) I also had the old SHUTTLE program way back, and when I did I always
wished I could dock with a station with it, but it never realy got there.

So when I saw Orbiter files in the avsim files while looking for FS2000 add-ons, I had to see what
the hoopla was about. I loaded the "FREE" <-- (that blew me away) Orbiter program and flew
around a bit. Then in time I was looking for sound and found your 2.5 package and loaded it, at
the time your DGII looked intimidating so I waited for that one. about 4 days later I DLed your
Glider too and printed the Doc,s, and here I am :)

And your right, I sometimes feel like the odd girl out, since there are very few that like sims like
this, most of my friends are at the " sims online " or even at " earth and beyond " I tried those for
a bit, but lost interest, I wanted something more real. And orbiter is that for sure.

I thank you for the welcome and am glad to be a part of the comunity. :)

I look forward to your future releases and upgrades to DGII. Looking back I don't know how I ever
launched without your accent program :) <-- truely a work of art.

Well I'm off to work, and will be flying later tonight ( Mir - Moon ).

I'll keep in touch, feel free to send me an email if you wish, I can send you a pic of me that my
friend Sally took while I was flying the DGII :)

Have a good day Dan.

Michelle.

A girl...wow

I have been watching this thread for a while because a couldn't bring myself to ask..a hem em,
what Dan did.

This forum as of all the Orbiter forums have had no females until this time. Outside of Dans wife
and Duncans wife for brief moments. I can't understand this because of the number of women
astronauts there are. I would think space stuff would be of interest to women. :wonder:

I imagine there are a number of women lurking the Orbiter forums but not making there presence
known.

Anyway, Welcome Michelle

Gene

BTW:  Orbiter seems to have a large following from Canada

There is a few Girl in flight or space sim but I'm sure they are
even more passionate.

I bet also that girl should suffer less accident then us in flight while
you don't have all those old beer can rolling on the floor of the
spacecraft at launch time :)

About Orbiter yes it is truely a piece of art that can compete with the best
commercial proggy out there. Martin is a genius and I like his way of doing
things.

A photo ? 8o yes send me please.... If you agree I can also post it here ;)

Have a nice flight

Hi Dan & Gene

*giggle*

You guys are absolutly right. I love this space sim stuff, and I too wonder why there are not more
of us out here, I spose there may be, but not many want to advertise it I guess. :wonder:

In any case this is the first Orbiter related  forum where I have chosen to write, I guess some time
I should also take part in the Orbiter ( Martin's forum ). But for the most part, my questions on his
site where already asked and answered so I never saw the need to add to it.

But with DGII I had one stumper being the APU shut down in a non atmosphere bug, which by the
way is fine since I found the " leave the APU on when not on earth prior to CTRL Q walk around "

he he, and there may not be any old beer can's laying on the ship's floor, but those wine bottles
hurt even more once you get in orbit and they start their 0 G dance in the cabin. :)

As for my pic being posted, well um.. I would have to say no, Dan.. eeek.. I was um caught off
guard by my friend Sally when she took the pic, and I was in, um relax mode, you''ll see what I
mean when I send it to you.. BTW. Before I do send it, I must ask if you have a significant " other "
that may not approve of your getting pic's from a girl that was well... trying to get comfortable :)
hee hee.

Also, I  think if Canadave where to see it here on your forum, I may find him knocking at my front
door. eeek.. can you say stalkers. 8o LOL. (just kiding Canadave btw)... :) but you never know
huh?

So if it's ok with you Dan, I would choose to be selective on who gets a look at my pic please. But
your right about what you said on another thread, most people here at the Orbiter community are
well rounded and friendly individuals. So I don't think I have to worry too much. But just the same
If I send you or anyone my pic, please keep it to yourself and off the forums. I would hate to have
an "incident" occure because of it. well... you know what I mean... there are a lot of internet
nightmares you see on the news all the time, I don't want to be in one of them. :)

But enough of that... :)

I am looking forward to my lunar flight tonight and will drop in the forum after to see whats
happening. Let me know if it's safe to send you the pic later.

See you at Luna-OB1 :)

You guys are all sooooooo funny :P

The funniest thing is that Dan thinks I might be close to Michelle.  Let's see....checking the atlas
now.....the distance is 3,455 km from Edmonton to Toronto, Ontario!  Give or take a few km if
Michelle isn't from the big city.  I'll start walking now, maybe I'll knock on your door in a couple of
years ;)

It IS nice to see a young lady on here, and a fellow Canadian to boot...or should I say,  NO DOOT
ABOOT IT? ;)  Michelle alone will understand what that means.

Cheers,
Dave (aka Canadave)

No problem at all , and even if, it's for the science intterest !  :)
My e-mail adress is about everywhere in the prog, the doc
and on this page ;)
For publication I promise not to diffuse it. I'm really concerned
by privacy.

Canadave ranted soo badly:

the distance is 3,455 km from Edmonton to Toronto.

My formerly girlfriend took one time her bike (before I know her)
and have done about 6000km when she was 22 old...
(Geneva/North-cap, she had even her pic in a newspaper for that)

And some training would not hurt us "potatoes astronaut" :)
would it ?

If you take your bike, I promise I'll start swimming the next day... ;)
We might encounter at Michelle home but I'm affraid that perhaps
I will find you both married with two child before I arrive (atlantic is
somewhat big) :)

Hi Dan.

Email has been sent. :)

Be kind, he he. there not the best pic's I could find and that Sally could put on my system.

You know I never did get to fly last night, there was a work emergency of sorts and I was called
away from my flying time, lucky for me I'm off this weekend and I plan to make it to the moon
tonight. ;)

*Opens a bottle of Strawberry white zinfandel* *pop*

I hope you all have a good weekend, I'll drop in later tonight once I get to Luna-OB1.

*sip*

p.s. Let me know what you think Dan ;)

I wish sometimes that orbiter was online and we could all fly together, that would be neat. Mabey
in the future Martin and others will be able to code in the multi ship online capability. who knows.

*holds the glass of wine up in the air* heres to the journey.

LMAO   Dave.

*giggle* your a funny one, thats for sure. So I guess your documentation work on DGII is reason
enough for me then.

psst...... take a peek at your email :)

But keep it to yourself. hee hee,  we can't tell em all our lil secrets now can we?

*sip*

yep, they have to make orbiter a MMOLG, imagine the possiblities. A large station like Mars Aries
with 7 docking moduals and everyone in line to refuel :)
hmmm I guess we would also need chat capability.

*sip sip *

Ah the posibilities...

:off:

Say Dan, is there any chance you could add a simple chat link to your forum? something in Java
mabey? you know no download or anything, just a place where we could all get together and
share idea's with each other and such?
I don't know if anyone has done this yet for the Orbiter community, but it would be a neat feature
of your site. Mabey even link it to Martin's related links area, as a place for all Orbiter pilots to
meet. hmmm, mabey even call it... lets see... "Dan's Orbiter Chat Lounge "?

*sip*

Sounds Like a good idea, but mabey it's just the wine talking :pfff: :friend:

This is starting to sound like a night in a bar in Moss Eisly :) (can anyone remember the original
Star Wars movie?)

I guess there's quite a distance between the women in this forum.

Let' see:

There are 3,000,000,000+ women on the planet and only 49,000 Faroese people.
I've spotted 2 Faroese guys here, but Michelle is the first female I've encountered in the Orbiter
comunity :)

It's almost like an alien encounter 8o

I guess an internet forum counts as a first degree encounter 8)

PS: Dan, if you decide to go for that swim...... feel free to drop in for a cup of coffee or
sumthin'
It's the first landmass after you leave Scotland :)

PPS: If the DGII can't get you to Canada it's not mutch use on a Mars trip ;)
(I was going to ask if the next version of DGII will have a make-up mirror, but i'm NOT going to!!!)

Happy orbiting

C3,

(can anyone remember the original Star Wars movie?)

I'm a big fan of the 4,5,6 but I must confess that I watched
the clone attack last day for the first time and I falled asleep
in the middle :) (too bad perhaps I have missed Jaja exploding
at the end of the movie ?)

It's almost like an alien encounter

Sure appart the fact that she's not green with litle antena
in fact she's really more pretty than any martian I encountered :)

if you decide to go for that swim...... feel free to drop in for
a cup of coffee or sumthin'

This was planned for sure, but I'm in concern with the water
temperature so I changed my mind ;)

Michelle,

I was thinking to implement a chatting room while sometime
we need one (see some long thread here beetween me and canadave)
but the one that I've made in php wasn't very satisfying and doing it
in another way would have take me too much time for litle benefit.
The idea is still flying in the air but I'm on something else currently.
(cryptology programming)

There you Go C3PO...

Moss Eisly, thats the idea... A place us space roamers can meet to talk about a great flight, or for
newcommers to ask how do you do....etc...

And yes, I need a mirror under the solar visor... gawd, the earth lift off and reentry always messes
up my hair. must be all the G's and heat.

And as for the chat room Dan, it would not have to be overly fancy, just a place we can all meet.
Mabey when you are done with some of that work on cryptology programming, you could explore
these idea's. I know I would be there almost every night, I wouldn't mind being the hostess for
the chat room, the um bartender as it were. :)

BTW C3PO... um whats a (Faroese) ??? I never heard that one before?

How is that pronounced anyway? FAR-O-SE? or FA-ROSE?

Well my life philosophy is:

I hope the Orbiter community will continue to thrive. I for one just got here and would hate to
think that the interest is declining on any level. I may even try to convince my friend Sally to try it
out too :)
