Hi all, so I got this song stuck in my head, which is driving me crazy, and I thought, why not try to get it? That's the
best way for me to clear my mind of such a song, and it's classical so it's beyond copyright age anyway.

but I got just one problem, like all classical songs, their names are funky and I really don't know what it's called.

seeing as how the internet can be a pain at communicating musical notes in your brain, I took the liberty of creating
this little note thingy, I think I did a pretty good job seeing as how I really can't read true music notes. :(

anyway I'm sure you all recognize the tune, All I need is a name.  thanks. :)

You realise that a staff is supposed to have just 5 lines, yeah? ;)

meh, I believe that I already mentioned that I have no skill in this area. ;)

and there are 8 notes that I care about.

do-re-mi-fa-so-la-ti-do

And if you'll notice there's one line for each note, so the freespacian logic holds :blbl:

Well, if we assume the tune is in C major and does not use semitones and the lowest bar in your picture is do (C), we
get (the download link is near the bottom; choose open or save and then double click on the saved file):

http://www.sendspace.com/file/h5yox6

If it is not right (it does not sound as a tune everybody would recognize to me), try downloading and installing TS-
MIDI Editor

http://www.tucows.com/preview/379210

and move the notes up-down until it sounds right. Then choose "Export to MIDI" and share the result with us :music:

If you want your notes to turn your notes into a song, you could use Modplug Tracker.
In the Orbiter forums, SDK forum, how to make addons thread there is a list of tools for modding, see modplug
tracker, instruments link and tutorial link.

Once you rebuild the melody there, you can export as WAV file and show something to people other than notes.

You may have some fun with your musical small project.
With the tools I provided in that thread you might be able to make music even if you are a newbie.

@ar81
1. freespace2dotcom is not interested in creating his/her own music but only in an identification. The chance that (s)he will start learning a MOD tracker software for that purpose is very slim.

2. MOD is more or less a thing of the past. The MIDI format is much more universal, compact, and plays on any computer. If one wants naturally sounding instruments, there is Microsoft GS Wavetable SW Synth built-in since Windows 95 or 98. And there is free Timidity++.

@computerex
Can you guess how much time one whose English is only a third language needed to understand what you were saying ;)

@freespace2dotcom
Could it be this:

lol.

firstly I'm a guy. :)

I know that the song is famous, yet it's still not recognizable through my complete lack of musical skill eh?

well, let's see....  that tune plays through most of the song, slow tempo at first but gets faster. I think that maybe the 'ti' note should have been a bit higher and the following notes as well to match...

I think I recall it being used in some ritz cracker commercials, so I'll try and find a link to one..

ahaha!

http://www.crowncombo.com/media/foodcommercials/ritzbits.wmv

there are two commercials in the file, the song I'm looking for plays in the second one

The first time I looked at it (briefly), I thought it was "Boots of Shining Leather". But it's not.

well, that's a start.

I have a copy of the nutcracker, or at least a part of it. according to wikipedia there are a few versions of it around,

my version definatly doesn't have that though so again I shall look. :)

edit: well, I looked but couldn't find it. :(

it doesn't mean it's not there but jeez you'd think it's be easier to find.....

Well... I was thinking it was from the Nutcracker... but I was sampling songs and couldn't find it, either... unless maybe
it's in the middle of a long piece...

Shoot...

It's "In the Hall of the Mountain King" by Edvard Grieg, and first appeared in the play "Peer Gynt"

Yeah, now that you say it, it fits. Just some tiny tweaks on the notation and some intervals seem to be wrong.

But a real classic tune...

Yes, this is it

The song was used in a commercial for Ritz crackers.

And now only one nagging question remains: Why did freespace2dotcom think his question was semi off-
topic ;)

That's it... and for some reason I keep thinking ItHotMK is a scene from NC... I've got the suspicion that I've gotten
confused about that piece before. :pfff:

I was thinking of posing that last question myself.

THANK YOUUUUU!!! :gift:  :applause:

and for those who wonder why this thread is only semi off topic, is because I like playing classical music with
orbiter.

although pure silence has it's charm too.

No, no, no, no, no. The connection between this thread, classical music, and Orbiter is that you are now to deliver an
XR5 fully loaded with this special cargo

to a PreludeII base of our choice. By "our" I mean everyone who participated in the discussion trying to help.
