Looks like another database problem or a server network problem between the Web server and the database:

Quote
Timeout expired.  The timeout period elapsed prior to completion of the operation or the server is not
responding.
Description: An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. Please review the
stack trace for more information about the error and where it originated in the code.

Exception Details: System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: Timeout expired.  The timeout period elapsed prior to
completion of the operation or the server is not responding.

Source Error:

An unhandled exception was generated during the execution of the current web request. Information regarding the
origin and location of the exception can be identified using the exception stack trace below.

Is there an "official" way to notify M6 of the problem?  Or should we just assume that Radu will notify them?

Nah. Not the problem, I'm quite certain. Just let it pass, and let what needs to be worked out be worked out.

I guess the forums are getting jam packed again with too many people. I was looking at the bottom of the main
forum [days before it blacked out again] on where it said the most number of visitors on a given time. The number
was pretty high [about 120-160] and that was during the previous black out. maybe that's what's causing it.

No, it filled up whenever the forums went up and then down again. I don't think this is a problem. Doesn't sound too
likely.

I just hope data is not lost.
I recall a forum crash in another forum so all threads were lost.

The last time I had an unknown funk was after I ate some unknown mushrooms proffered at a party last year.  I
recall not really NEEDING to play Orbiter for about a week, since I had achieved a relatively stable orbit all on my own.

Yeah, M6 has been going down once or twice a month since December -- not exactly a stellar record for a dedicated
hosting provider.  Hopefully it won't take nine days to fix like it did in over New Year's.

I Googled for "m6.net review" and the vast majority of the results didn't exactly elicit warm-and-fuzzy feelings...

At least we have Dan's forum here, which has a near-perfect uptime record.  :)

Yep, it won't load for me either - again.

2.5 out of five for reliability, does that say anything? :badfinger:

Read this review of them: http://www.webhostingstuff.com/comments/M6Net-224.html
Pretty much sounds like our situation.

Geez this is the longest downtime I have ever seen in the forum.
M6 needs to improve if they want to generate some brand presence.
Brand presence is needed to have customers and having customers is what brings profit.

Isn´t there any news about what's going on and when could it be back online...

I did some research here on Dan's forum and compiled M6 downtime statistics for the past three months:

* Down 12.26.2006 - 1.3.2007 (9 days)

* Down 1.29.2007 (several hours)

* Down 2.9.2007 - 2.10.2007 (1 day)

* Down 3.16.2007 (one hour)

* Down 3.21.2007 - ? (1.5 days and counting...)

Total time in window: 87 days
Total downtime:       11.5 days and counting
Uptime percentage: 86.8%

That 86.8% is decreasing as we speak.  Am I the only one who wishes we could switch to a different hosting
provider?  Yes, I know M6 is hosting the forum for free, but given all the traffic that Orbiter generates I wouldn't be
surprised if other hosting providers would also be interested in hosting Orbiter.

It would be nice to chat with the M6 chaps and explain a nifty little concept called failover.

I'd say this is pretty good for simply hosting a website, but maybe forums can be thrown in it:
http://www.dot5hosting.com/hosting.html
This looks even better for bandwidth and other good features: http://www.anhosting.com/all-inclusive-web-

well, i think many providers could offer a better service, but remember: it has a price. I don't know how much money martins
want to invest in his hobby.

Plenty of money spent at M6. $40/mo for about what the others can provide.

I don't think any free hosting can handle M6 orbiter forum, this would not be serious.
What would be nice is that Martin find another sponsor for the forum.

I know ESA was intterested by Orbiter as martin did a presentation to them,
maybe them or another scientifique network would be intterested to host
such community ?  Asking doesn't harm anyway.

Still M6 work nicelly usually, the problem is the lack of reaction when
there is a problem.

That's the host I use for flytandem.com . I used to be with "Interland" but the price kept climbing and eventually reached
$30 a month. I grabbed the 2 year paid in advance at dot5. I am quite happy with them. In 6 months I've had one instance
where the control panel wasn't working right and they responded and resolved it within 12 hours.

I would be happy to donate the first 2 years if it is the $5 a month rate at dot5 if those that "know" whether and how it
would work as a forum host would be willing to do the footwork to move the forum over to this new location. Writing my
entirely static flytandem web pages with notepad and a manual on html was about my limit. Does anyone know who I should contact to officially offer this $.

I can say with certainty that ESA will never host anything like the orbiter forums ;)
