OOC: Doc, how nice to see you here.
I've got some problems with implementing these ships to orbiter (some problems with mesh and materials), but if you want to
write configs etc, then i can send them to you.

Please, spend at least a minute reading this, as some of you may find my proposition interesting.

As you may have noticed, the whole OSN topic had drifted away from the orbiter realms a bit, and currently (at least in my
opinion) it become more sci-fi than we planned at the beginning. Also, more and more people are leaving, and currently only a
few of us are still being active here, so here goes my proposition:

First, i think that we should think about moving the whole thread to the main orbiter forums, or alternatively invite some
people from there (we don't want to leave Dan after all these years, right:)) Secondly, and more important, i suggest that we
should start the whole story from the beginning, and change the 'rules' a bit. Here it goes:

- One user/player should own only one character or small group of characters. This way people would be less independent, and
more cooperation between players would be needed.
- I think that there is a way to play without using any jumpdrives/ warpdrives/ beamdrives/ freedrives/
whatever_FTL_you_want: We could state that the whole action is oriented mainly around one planet (for example Saturn or
Jupiter as there are many moons and other places to go) so every flight could last only a few hours or days, and even less if
we would use the direct flight. (thats only an option though, because even a direct flight from Earth to Mars don't last
long,  compared to current <real> methods.) Anyway, we would need a base of operations, some kind of large orbital base,
where we could trade, meet each other, supply and refuel ships and perform repairs. You may say that this will limit our
abilities, but then again, it will require more cooperation between players which is good in my point of view.
- I also hope that people will have less reasons and possibilities to fight with each other. Fighting may be fun, but doesn't
actualy fit into orbiter.

Take note, that playing our little RPG this way, it will be much more friendly for Orbiter played in multiplayer. The current
OSN topic doesn't have to be finished though, because two threads can exist independently.

So, if anyone is interested, please respond.

so you're suggesting starting another one with rules that need ot be followed this time? I agree, but this one needs
to stay there and still have the same set rules(that is, none). This one is a simple RPG, and I really like the story. We
could start another one.(without changing anythign from this one)

Maybe we should aim at what the future would really look like, for exemple, realistic propulsion systems and power
generation methods. In a way, a realistic tech tree.
I actually don't like single character RPs, cause it sometime takes too much time for an anwser to get posted...

Heh, peace was always the prefered method, but we never seemed to be able to stick to it :) (see old OSN threads)

IMPORTANT: I will probably be forced to take down the OSN site at http://www.vidmar.org/drupal/, so backup
the info about your nation. I need the database slot and I haven't worked on the site in ages, so it's probably a better idea
if someone else maintains it -> specially since there are now lots of CMS + forum systems available..

As i said, the two threads can exist independently, and i also like the current lack of rules. Its just that it makes everything less realistic.

Thats why i want to invite other people, or to set up the new thread on the official forum, where (theoreticaly) more people
will join, and therefore waiting time will be shorter.

Anyway, i guess that you agree that it would be worth trying, right?

I think it would be interesting to try

Abotu the OSN Site, we could transfer all info on the orbiter wiki, I already got a page full of useless stories about my
nation on it.

My little movie is going well, well, actually, I only made 3D videos, and still no action on the ground, but I need to buy
fake gas masks, to get a more air-less feel to it. That whole project is going to cost at least 150$...
at least I love making videos :)

After thinking about it, i'm more and more interested in creating a new sim. We could talk about the actual story and
rules here, then try the idea on the Main orbiter forum when we have everything we need.

I like the idea of it only happening in a single sector, for exemple, Saturn. My idea is that an Earth to Saturn trip takes
months, because of acceleration limitations. Here's a concept :) :

2236...
The third world war is still raging on earth. The Orient Coalition and The Occident Alliance(ok, the names sux, we
could change them) have been fighting for years to gain total control over planetary resources. Fearing the end of
the human race, third party groups have decided to leave with colony ships for the Saturn Sector. After months, they
finally arrive at destination and start terraforming every little moon they can find, knowing they won't come back...

2238...
It's chaos. Mexico is occupied by oriental forces, while Europe is in ruins. The United-States lost a quarter of their
population to nuclear detonations, and Asian countries are substaining constant orbital strike from the Allied Fleet.

2245...
In Saturn Sector, planetary terraforming is complete. Some small villages and cities are formed, but without any law
forces, piracy is but one of the dangerous threats...
On Earth, Allied Command give the order to unse the 500megaton antimatter warhead. It's the biggest quantity of
antimatter ever created as a weapon. The detonation destroy most of Russia and China. The heat destroys the
ecosystem and dust clouds cover most of the globe. The human race is resigned to hide in bunkers in order to
survive. Every animal and vegetal life on the planet dies. Even after this castratophic event, Allied and Coalition
starships are still fighting in orbit.

2246...
The first peace treaty in 15 years in signed between fleet admirals in earth's orbit. Both fleet have no contact with
the ground. They're possibly all dead. Some ships from the newly formed Terran Alliance are dispatched to investigate
Saturn Sector.

2247...
What the fleet finds is terrible. War will never stop. Pirates are attacking small colonies, Alliances are formed all over
the sector simply to eliminate the other. The terran Fleet decide to bring order to chaos...
----------------------
Any player would control a single character or a small group of characters. the possible choices for a "nation" would
be:
Terran Alliance: Be it a capitol ship captain, a frigate captain, a fighter pilot, a marine, a spy, a trash technician :)
Pirate: There could be a lot of pirate factions, or you could even be alone, hunting for your own needs.
Freelance: Trader? Selfnominated Police officer?
Faction member: Member of any of the factions(maybe as many as there are colonized moons?) again, captain, pilot,
soldier, anything...
---------------------

Of course there would be peace, and some pirate attacks to get on the mood in case the peaceful part gets too
boring. I think we can let go of the alien idea, somethime humans are more than enough...

Anything else to add? To change?

Edit: Here are the moons of saturn! I didn't even know them before now(except Rhea of course :))
Mimas
Enceladus
Tethys
Dione
Rhea
Titan
Iapetus

I agree with your storyline, with one addition:
Quote
Terran Alliance: Be it a capitol ship captain, a frigate captain, a fighter pilot, a marine, a spy, a trash technician :)

I think capital ships should not be allowed, because people would be too powerful. Alternatively, only admins/mods/game
masters could own capital ships.

Anyway, now when we have a rough storyline, we should find some players. I suggest starting a new thread, inviting people to
this project. I think that 8 to 10 players is minimum.
Voangers806, DocHoliday, would you be interested?

Another question: what about a name? Maybe OSN 2: Conquering Saturn?

I Like the name.

We should create some more infos on the colonies.
I could write a story to add to the post, a bit like the one above.

Rhea:

After the Big Arrival in 2237 some of the colonists decided to settle on this little moon. Over time it has become the centre
of heavy industry and ship manufacturing in the Saturn sector. Because of the lack of atmosphere, people have to leave in the
underground shelters, or in surface domes. Current population is about 5 million. Solar collectors are placed all over the
surface to deliver huge amounts of electricity. Therefore power cells and ship components are main export goods. Large
distance from the rings forced all factories to import raw materials from inner colonies, so there is always a job for a
freighter pilot.

----------------------------------
And no, i don't want to rule Rhea again. I just got used to it. :)

About the terran fleet:
There would be three cruisers. These big ships, nearly invincible, with frigate, corvette, and fighter escort, separated
in three fleet. I'd be interested in commanding onf of these taskforce. Of course, since the cruisers are extremely
powerful, then battles will not happen often(ha, I got my newly freighter, I'll make a run for the nearest cruiser!)
so actual battles would happen when you send another ship to investigate an area. Most of the RP would be inside
the cruiser(since the crew is composed of the majority of one side(alliance or coalition) and the other side sent
replacements to help in repairs, then tensions would arise.

EDIT: Like the rhea story :)

I think its the right time to bring attention to our idea. I've started new topic, so now we just have to wait for response. :)
