We have intercepted another transmission:
(M) = Person on Mercury
(S) = Ship in Oort Cloud:

(S)  How is the attack progressing.
(M)  Not too well, Admiral.
(S)  The fleet is arriving.
(M)  Keep them out of the way untill I give the order.
(S)  Yes, Your Excellence.
(M)  How is the search for the container going?
(S)  We think it is on one of the moons of SOL-6
(M)  Will you be able to retrive it.
(S)  The rebels are there, we couldn't possibly be discrete.
(M)  Then we must bide our time. It will be ours shortly.
(S)  What if they detect our fleet.
(M)  They won't.

That's all we got.

PS: Just an idea, we could set up a Yahoo groupspace, so we can exchange downloads more easily? They have
about 20mb webspace, and multiple users can upload. It might be better than the current system..

We have also intercepted some transmissions from the Mercury. Some of them were saying about incoming fleet.
Unfortunately we were not be able to decrypt the whole information. We are sending you all the intercepted data
from this week. We also ask you to share the decryption program with us.

Appendix: Transmissions from/to Mercury from 234-12-4678 to 247-12-4678

These transmissions could suggest a big threat for every nations, so I suggest taking over every mercurian
communication satellites, and initiate dampening procedure to stop these communications.

They could be less of a threat if we let them communicate. At least we'll know what they are doing.

We have decoded the transmissions intercepted by the RRC:

(S) Your Excellence, our forces are ready to attack - We will have control of this system within a week
(G) Well Done, Admiral, wait for the signal, I like to draw out the hunt
(S) Everything has gone fine so far
(G) No, there are the rebels
(S) They are powerless to stop us
(G) They have a huge fleet - The others will support them
(S) Not after we give them the "Demonstration" - Where are the rebels based
(G) They are on one of the sattelites of planet 6
(S) Population
(G) A few million, send a few cruisers to attack it
(S) They've got dreadnoughts
(G) Hit and run, don't give them time to return fire
(S) Yes, Your Excellence
(G) See you in a few days, Admiral, Out

Obviously this is a worrying development, so we are holding our fleet at red alert.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We have developed the film of the destruction of the ECPS ship a few days ago, and I thought you might like to see
how our dreadnoughts do battle:

Firstly, the dreadnought fires three atomic disruptors at the enemy.

As the power is increased, the enemy ship glows blue, and emits radiation.

The disruptors cut out, and all atoms in the ship split down to hydrogen.

UFMP ALPHACITY - RHEA:

Tracking officer:   "We have multiple hostiles inbound, Three Zero Zero Nine Four One, Closing Speed of Three
Astronomical Units Per Hour. ETA Ten Minutes."
Supreme Commander:   "That's them, Defcon two, prepare to take action."
Head of Starfleet:   "Attention all units, Attention all units, Golf Whiskey has authorised, we have attackers inbound
on Rhea, defend if possible. Course Three Zero Zero Nine Four One, Speed Three Astronomical Units Per Hour. ETA
Ten Minutes."
Supreme Commander:   "Call the RRC, tell them that we are tracking hostiles inbound. We will intercept."
Communication Officer:   "Already done"
Head of Starfleet:   "10 Cruisers have gone to intecept. 3 Dreadnoughts and a few fighters are waiting to provide a
line of defence should it be needed."
Supreme Commander:   "Pass me the communicator"

"Broadcasting to all members of the Sol System. This is the Supreme Commander of the United Federation Of
Minor Planets. The Empire of Centurian Planets and Systems has invaded. We are unsure of their exact strength, but
we know that their intentions are hostile. We are in a state of war with them, and we ask that you all adopt a
simmilar diplomatic stance. If we give in to them now then they will take this system, along with all that is good in it,
and leave us all enslaved by their tyrannical regime. They have some diplomatic links with the MFM which has been
terrorising SOL-1 recently. They currently have a task force of five to seven cruisers inbound to SOL-6, probable
target Rhea. We will be able to handle this attack, but if they throw their entire fleet against us, then we will need
unity to be able to defend ourselves and our freedom. We must stand together, and end these squabbles between
ourselves, or we will all be exterminated by these tyranists."

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
15 minutes later

Head of Starfleet:   "The Centurians are retreating, shall we persue?"
Supreme Commander:   "Try and capture them."
Head of Starfleet:   "Certainly."

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
10 minutes later

Head of Starfleet:   "We captured four ships,  battle reports suggest that three enemies were destroyed, no friendly
losses."
Supreme Commander:   "And the crew"
Head of Starfleet:   "There were few on board. Ten per ship."
Supreme Commander:   "Survivors"
Head of Starfleet:   "Nil, suicide packs on board."
Supreme Commander:   "Bring the ships in, refit them, and put them in service, we need the ships. Get
intelligence to look over them first though. Tell the RRC that we've won. I'll make another broadcast."

"Transmitting to all members of the Sol System. This is the UFMP. We have seen off the attack on Rhea, but
the war is just beginning. We ask all heads of state to fly to 90 Antiope immediatly for a war summit. This is an
emergencey, bring whatever defences you like, It is urgent we all meet, and we must not worry about fighting
between ourselves. We must form an alliance to defeat these invaders. No single member of our system can take on
their entire fleet, not even us, or the Galactic Federation. They will not just go away. These are the 'aliens' which you
should be afraid of. We have accelerated our armament program, and we request that everyone else does so too, to
give the greatest chance of victory."

--- OPEN TRANSMISSION ---

Rhea Research Corporation immediately declares war to the Centurian Empire. We will do our best to save the
freedom of the Solar System. Our fleet is fully operational. Shipyards are working in 100% efficency. We're awaiting
the reaction of other nations.

--- END OF TRANSMISSION ---

- Emon, i think we will have to look closer at your precious treasure. My men have prepared a stealth ship. It is
waiting for us on the landing pad. We will fly under escort until we will leave the Rhea's sphere of influence. Then we will activate the stealth systems and proceed alone. Lets go now. I want to return as soon as possible.

ME, well, what's left of it... is declaring war to these invaders, too.

most of our fleets is undamaged, but we lack ground troops.
if we are to win this war, we'll need to coordinate our attacks.

To UFMP:  We of CIM find it interesting that you show up in our system seeking shelter, only to discover that you have brought your war along with you.

Given the tensions already in place previous to your arrival, we are somewhat dismayed that yet more war is to be
raged.

We will keep our diplomatic staff at 90 Antiope; however, the Myrmydon assigned as transport for that shuttle will be
recalled to CIM territory immediately to begin defence preparations should the need arise.

:::::::::Notice to all established governments, Sol System::::::::::::

Coalition of Independent Moons are remaining neutral during what may constitute the beginning of this new war; as
we are a young nation is is difficult for us to support any mass military actions at this time.

All CIM fleet ships are to go on high alert and maintain defence patrols thoughout CIM spacelanes. All groundbased
defences are active. All Explorer-class vessels are to immediately rejoin at Enceladus to prepare for fleet refit and
repair functions.

We will render humanitarian aid to all SOL natives that may be stranded in or near the Saturnian system.

Trade routes between CIM, RRC, and other Saturnian colonies are being kept open at this time.

SDLSE will stay neutral until directly attacked. We don't want to engage in another war until we regain our full power.
That doesn't of course mean that we're not able to defend ourselves.
We also agree with CIM on UFMP's stance.

We have not brought this war with us. If you refer to the first intercepted transmission, you can clearly see that they
were surprised to find us here - "We tried. Blowing up their home planet seemed to get rid of them, but they must
have just run away."
- and we believe that this is an unprovoked invasion. The ECPS has been swallowing up
independant systems for years, and Sol would be a prime target given its historical importance as the birthplace of
most life in the galaxy. If I had more time, I'd explain.

Mercurian Main battle fleet, sector 45-C, 1 AU from Mercury...
Tactical situation: 8 Cruisers, 4 Battleships, 3/4 of the Mercurian fleet...

Captain: report!
Technician: We are still getting the same readings, 20 ships heading for us, sir.
Captain: Order Lexington and Nova to scout ahead, we are the biggest mercurian fleet, and we are still
outnumbered...
Technician: Sir! detecting enemy ships 2 km from here!
Captain: What!!?? To all ships, battlestations!!
Technician: Sir, they are fireing!!!
##**/#*/*/--=##

--------------
Xianus, I think there is a way to win this conflict. We must find the lost ship. We have the beam drive, we have the
star maps, and a ship as advanced as that should have powerful weaponry. We need to find a crew, and their family,
in case they are the last survivors of the human race...

OOC: Im still working on the model and i need some time to finish it. I think after a week or two we will "find" it. :)

IC:

Rhea Starport Alpha...

The chancellors arrival was almost unnoticed, because his ship wasn't visible on any scanner screen. Shortly after
landing two most important persons in the RRC left the vessel.

- Major, order your people to unload the container B-24 from this ship. Take it to the Cargo bay four, and place
guards on each entrance. Emon, you know what to do.
- Xianus, are you sure you want to do it?
- I have no other choice.

30 minutes later...
- So thats it, colonel Emon? - said cpt Vertigo.
- Exactly, captain. Go on, open it. Security code: 36d6t7a4
- Why the chancellor is not here?
- Its not your business, captain.

The doors opened with a silent noise. The container was empty. There were only a few scratches on the floor,
indicating that someone took something from it.

- What the hell is going on? - said captain.
- Don't ask me... I can only guess, that...
- Captain? - said the voice from the intercom
- Yes, Private?
- The Stealth ship have just launched from the landing pad 23.
- Who was onboard?
- Well, only two people know the startup codes. One of them is standing near you...
- And the second one?
- Its obvious, captain. Its the chancellor.
- Thank you, private. Report this to the HQ, and...
- May i interrupt, captain? - said Emon - I think the chancellor would like to leave unnoticed, don't you think?
- OK, private. Now listen: you haven't seen any ship launching, is that clear?
- But sir...
- I repeat: no ship have launched from pad 23. Is that correct, PRIVATE?
- Yes, sir. Over & out.
- Colonel Emon, i guess you know something more about this, right?
- Yes, captain.
- And i guess you will not tell me what is going on, right?
- Unfortunately yes, captain. Don't worry, Xianus know what to do.

After about half an hour strange thing could be observed in the low Rhea orbit. A very long, greenish beam appeared
out of nowhere. It was there only for a only few seconds, then it started to move. When it crossed the Titans orbit, it
had a velocity of about 0,6 light speed. Then it disappeared from the scanners.

IC:
Officer: Mister president! mister president!
oli: What?!
Officer:*catching his breath* They took Mercury!!
oli: Who??
Officers: the rebels, they secured most of the strategic points, and RRC troops are dead or can't regroup... We
received a communication... they are saying every mercurian who will not agree with their "politics" will be executed...
and that's half the population... Order the rest of our fleet to get in orbit and help in the evacuation, we are going to
save as many people as we can...

--- TRANSMISSION FROM SF TRANSPORT VESSEL "TRAVELLER" TO THE SF HEADQUARTERS---

This is the commander of the RRC forces on Mercury. The rebeliants took absolute control over the planet and we had
to retreat. Many of our troops died or are wounded. Our ships are currently on the high mercury orbit, because the
rebeliants have taken control over Surface-To-Orbit weapon emplacements. We have also some ME citizens onboard.
They will be soon transferred to the ME ships. Then our fleet will return to Rhea. Over & out.

::::message between Chancellor Xorth Tanovar and Professor Nels Lindstrom, Project Freedrive::::

Xorth:  How is progess going?

Nels:  Not too bad, the artifact found on Atlas has proven a bit challenging, but we are gaining some insight as to
how the device operates. Currently, I project we should be able to have it fully tested and operational within the next
two months, and if the preliminary tests show as much promise as our current research has, then we should be able
to duplicate it within two months after that.

Xorth:  ...and this would mean what? Can we have it installed on all Myrmydons within the next six months?

Nels: No, I suspect we could have a limited production run to roughly one-third of the Myrm's in eight months. You're
forgetting that although the preliminaries went well, I wouldn't want to place what limited fleet resources we have in
jeopardy because of an unforseen malfunction.

Xorth:  I can agree with that. It took us long enough to get the Myrm's operational, I don't want to begin losing them
due to our own lack of foresight. What about the Omegas?

Nels:  The primary test bed will be the Bain Sidhe, her captain is currently enroute to meet the Explorer in charge of
fleet refit, and will begin clearing the portion of her engine room that will be needed for installation. The additional
fusion reactor is already aboard the Explorer, ready for the refit process. That's one downfall, even a small
battlewagon like the Sidhe will need nearly twice it's own energy output to fire the thing up...the good news is that
once engaged it only needs a trickle of current to keep it running.

Xorth: What about shutdown?

Nels:  That's the beauty of it, it's as simple as turning off the switch....but the problem is that the ship seems to retain
it's last inertial state before the freedrive kicked in.....so a flight from Enceladus to, say Earth, would not take long at
all, but upon arrival it would still have the inertial velocity and flight vectors that were present in orbit at Enceladus.
The ship would have to fire normal engines to cancel out the previous direction of travel.

Xorth:  This could have other uses a well.

Nels:  Such as?

Xorth:  Use this field around a small planetary body, maybe half the size of Atlas. Attach engines to it, it'll move damn
near anywhere we want it to, speed limited by only the density of the solar wind, or interstellar hydrogen, etc. So
maneuver it into close proximity of a larger planet aligned with it's last inertial vector, then revert it back to "inert" status.

Nels:  Imagine the wakeup call they would receive!

Xorth:  ...and imagine what would happen if a body the size of Io or Ganemede were used...and the device was
switched off near a star.

Nels:  My God, instant nova....

Xorth:  ...that would give these ECPS characters reason enough to leave Sol alone, wouldn't it.

Nels:  Yes but then what? Keep the tech to ourselves?

Xorth:  I think until trials are done, yes. But in the interest of preserving our solar system, I think Xianus can be
trusted with such technology...

Nels:  What?

Xorth:  I wonder if E.E. Smith ever dreamed that his fictional creation actually existed....what's next, Lenses?

UFMP fleet has been scrambled to assist evacuation of Mercury should the ME request assistance. Another
detatchment has been sent to assist their fleet which has been engaged

We have intercepted another transmission:

(M) We have secured SOL-1.
(S) Good, our attack on the sattelite of SOL-6 was a disaster. We lost 7 ships and failed to destroy anything.
(M) That will give away our cover.
(S) The Rebellion told everyone else that we are here. Two small factions declared war against us, as well as the
rebellion itself.
(M) We'd best move to phase 2.
(S) Yes, Your Excellence. I will make the declaration.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Shortly afterwards, the ECPS took over control of all television and radio signals in the system:

"Attention. We the Empire of Centurian Planets and Systems hereby declare war against this system and all of
its inhabitants. We have a planetry destroyer and a full battle fleet stationed near your system, and we will destroy a
heavilly populated planet if you do not all surrender to us."

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
UFMP Headquaters, Dactyl Palace

The Supreme Commander arrives from 90 Antiope:

Head of Starfleet: Sir, It's worse than we thought. The MFM has taken SOL-1, and the ECPS has declared war against
the whole system. They're threatening to destroy a heavilly populated planet if anybody refuses to surrender.
Supreme Commander: That is not an option. Track their fleet. If any small detatchments break off, send our ships to
engage them.
Head of Starfleet: We have already sent a group of dreadnoughts, cruisers, and the FSS Silo to engage a
detatchment of about 20 ships. We should be able to get rid of them. There's an ME fleet engaging them too. I've
sent the Hunter-Seeker class ships and the rest of the fleet to help evacuate SOL-1, if the ME require assistance.
Supreme Commander: Good. We must not let the ECPS win.

O/T: When "The Rebellion" is mentioned in the intercepted transmissions, they are talking about the UFMP, as we
were a rebellion against them originally, not the MFM.

--- TRANSMISSION TO ALL NATION LEADERS ---

This is Xianus, chancellor of the Rhea Research Corp. I must quickly tell you everything before i will be to far from SOL.
Because some things cannot be stopped now, i can freely reveal some of my secret plans. I am currently onboard the
SF ship "Ghost", our greatest invention since developing the beam drive. Actually, the whole ship is just a slight
modification of the previous beam-drive vessels. As i said before, the beam drive can generate almost infinite velocity.
The only problem was energy needed to set the desired speed. Using all of the known methods we were only able to
set the velocity to about 1.1c, and nothing more. Two days ago it has changed. The container B-24, which was found
by my friend Emon long time ago, was the missing part of the wrecked spaceship. It was the power source, needed
to operate the beam drive at its full efficency. Yesterday, after delivering the container B-24 back to Rhea, my
engineers have installed the power source in this ship. Now, it is possible to travel almost anywhere. You can't even
imagine the view from my front window showing the stars passing by. I have enough food, water and oxygen
supplies to survive in this ship for a month. You can now ask: where am i going? The answer is pretty easy - i know
the location of the other ship. Using the CIM and UFMP maps we were able to localize the target system. Because
this transmission is not safe, i will not tell you the coordinates. I can only say that it is very far away, too far to follow
me. If i will maintain my curent speed, i will arrive there in about five to six days. I can only imagine what i will find
there. I know, that it is risky, but i had no other choice. The ECPS is a great threat to us all. We have two choices: we
can run away, or fight. And the people from Rhea never run away. I can only hope that i will return in time. Wish me
luck. I will leave the signal range in a few seconds... Ther_ iS one mOre thingggg you mUst Kno_...

***SIGNAL LOST***

                 * * *

Rhea orbit, few hours earlier...

The whole thing lasted only a few seconds, but it looked awesome from orbit. In one moment there was only a plain
surface. Suddenly a bright white light apppeared. It was coming from the surface. It lasted a few seconds, and
disappeared. Then the whole area collapsed, leaving the huge crater. It has almost two kilometers in diameter.

- Admiral Lenard, this is Captain Vertigo. We are currently on low Rhea orbit. The whole complex is destroyed. I
repeat: the whole complex is destroyed. Just like the chancellor planned. No human losses.
- Thats great, captain. Return to base. Over & out.

Good luck on your mission. I hear that the CIM are planning to blow up the entire Alpha Centuri system by firing a
large planetary body at the star. Knowing the ECPS, they have probably got a planetary destroyer in reserve to blow
up this object though - they always kept one for getting rid of stray asteroids and uprisings on planets.

OT: I've got also some experience in making new solar systems for orbiter, and i am thinking about creating a small
(3-4 planets + a few moons, asteroids etc) solar system where the missing ship will be hidden. I am just wandering if
i should concentrate only on the ship, or to make the system too. In other words: would anyone be interested in
implementing the new system in Orbiter? Here are some examples of my textures:

Yes, but will it work on an INERTIALESS planet?

The transport phase in an inertialess state would be almost near lightspeed. We'd drop it out of inertialess mode barely above the surface of the star itself....not much of a chance for their planetary destroyers to track it, much less actually bring their fire to bear...

You never know with the ECPS. The Planetry Destroyers are pretty fast. If we send it, we'll have to give it a pretty big
escort, and then we'll ned to get this out of the way before the explosion. We'll also have to get it past the UGC, or
they won't be happy.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We have captured a transport ship, and we have found invasion plans on board. It looks like the first target will be
SOL-8 (Neptune), and this will be attacked in 13 days time. They will then move on to SOL-7 (Uranus), SOL-5 (Jupiter),
SOL-4 (Mars), SOL-2 (Venus), SOL-3 (Earth), and then, finally, SOL-6 (Saturn).

Analysis of this indicates that it is accurate. Therefore, I propose we station our fleets at SOL-8 to intercept it.

The UFMP also confirms the destruction of the planet SOL-9 (Pluto). The asteroid collided with it, shattering the planet
into millions of rocks. The asteroid was co-orbital with another of similar size, and this impacted with Charon, which
was also destroyed.
On a positive note, some of the debris has flowen off in the direction of the ECPS fleet, and, although it won't be
enough to destroy it, it may cause some damage, and delay their attack untill such a time as our starfleets are ready
to take them on.

For this plan to work you would need to get to their system, and Xianus sent to me, a while before the war, the
specs of the beam drive, we might be able to reproduce something like it. We need power...
