How do you add such things as animated gear and other moving parts to ships.
I am using Anim8or to create them, and have absolutly NO knowledge of C programming.

well, you could download vinka's spacecraft.dll
with this you only have to write an ini file
no dll !!!

the animations are made within the ini
you give the parts to move, the type of movement(rotation, translation, rescale)
and how much they move
everything is explained in the pdf taht come with the file
you dont have to do any animation in anim8or, but i think its better to group the parts that will move together(a gear
with the gear and the support would be grouped together)

its the link named:
spacecraft full package (dll + examples) 050721 for Orbiter build 050216

Yes what you say is correct I use this but be carful how you use
rescaling in anim8tor or in the mesh converter because this can
change the animation coordinates in the finished mesh !!

it'S mostly trial and error for me, because i dunno witch part is witch group
and 3dsmax seems to add a name to them...
maybe, someday, i'll find a way...                      maybe...

GW, you have any exemple of your work? i'd like to see some...

Well I dont know about 3dsMax ( I have version 6) i find this to complicated
I still use Anim8tor
If you give each mesh part a name then you can always identify the parts

look at the Agamemnon ini file as an example

or Station36/Viper2
and many others all none with Spacecraft DDL by Vinka
