Anyway, the previous thread is (I think) quite full. So we're moving one here. Hopefully, next thread will take place in a
dedicated forum.

Current data (I'll keep these updated, possibly add a link or two):
OSN Website: http://www.vidmar.org/drupal
OSN Forum: http://travisserv.servegame.com:81/modules/forum/index.php

Anyway, since the OSN site is still beta, I think it's safer if we continue "constitutional" debates here.

So I have a little problem. Namely the UP. Originally, we had the Solar Council, which would be just a gathering of
representatives of all nations, something like say Continental Congress. Now Atom proposes United Powers, which I
saw basically, as a more or less same thing. Of course, his choice of name provoked a heated reaction from
Freespace. So I'm left to wonder:

1. If OSN site uses UP as it's highest controlling entity, does this mean Freespace will not be part of it? I'd hate that,
since I consider him to be a valuable contributer.

2. Or do we keep it as Solar Council (or whatever other name we finalize) and have UP as a voluntary alliance kind of
treaty for people to join as they please?

I vote for option two: so we have sovereign nations, OSN Solar Council, membership in which is basically good for
everyone and also required, unless you're from Sirius and not Sol :) (technically of course the reasons is, I need some
kind of ruling organisation so that I can distribute user priviledges and for that matter we could call it Lollopop
Society, but that would be out of context, somewhat) So following this all other inventions, such as United Powers,
Outer Planets Treaty Organisation, the Venus Pact, Mars Society, Starfleet, Corporate Cartel League and whatnots :)
would be political devices designed to create the feeling of realism and dynamics to this game.

Obviously we already have interesting tendencies:
- We've got trading companies showing hostilities against eachother
- We've got FedEx worried about ESR military arsenal
- We've got UP proposal and at least one client who opposes it
- All of us have secret agendae, that have not yet been revealed, but I'm sure included conflicts (at least of interest) :)

So, this is great!

Cheers,
Janez

I would vote 2, but say make a poll on the OSN site.

Is there another option, so I don't restrict it to just 2 options?

oh, doc. I didn't think you cared so. :)

I say whatever you do is fine, however, if such a thing as this "UP" comes into fruition, Venus' stiffnecked people will
participate in discussions with it and whatever, but would not be a member of that "blight to national sovereignty."

We would treat it not as a place for free discussion, but as a seperate entity in itself. a seperate nation that, if left
without check, would eventually try to force all worlds under it's banner.

We venusians would stand united to stay separate from that. (an oxymoron if I ever saw one. :))

so I say option 2 is OK for me.

About spaces I was thinking of simple rule:
- planetary claims are equal to SOI of the planet. When you are out of the sphere of influence, you are
in "international space" :)
- same for moons

Here on moon we say that moons sphere of influence enlarged to whole solar system as we settled there :p

There should be a rule about ships on intercept courses directly to planets. Trading must be restricted to orbital
platforms and depots. Any ship on a course to land on a planet must have permission before it enters the sphere of
influence. This should help keep the peace. ;)

Doc,
I have a problem with the OSN site. It hasn't sent me my password. I've asked it several times. Is there a solution to
this problem?

Weird. I'll generate one for you and send it by mail. Maybe my mail server was down at the time.

Anyone else have that problem??

Glad you're okay with it. I have a special proposal for you.. and for others as well. Since you're all... well veterans :)

SDL: hehe, officially though, youre SOI is just around moon. What you do in free space is you problem :)

Krytom: Agreed. I guess it's a matter of accepting a "convention". So perhaps this is something that should be voted on.
That's what polls are for. :)

Guess Krytom's suggestion would entail large trading stations to be built in the orbits of various bodies...

Greg Burch's station seems like the perfect candidate for a Freeport station :)

I am not authorized to access that page! :(

Why am I not authorized to access that page!? :grrr:

A person as important as me should be authorized to access that page!

That page that important needs to be accessible by me. :)

It's the galactic new page for crying out loud! ;)

Ok if you call it Freeport 7 :)
I wouldn't say celestium is perfect for this becasuse it's using Vinka's DLL so we're limited to one instance.

Free: emm.. What page did you try to access? I've been rearranging user rights.. so maybe I got something wrong.
OR you just need to reload the page. It seems sometimes the site forget you're still connected and treats you as
anonymous.

SDL: Ah!... :( bad... so which station isn't using it..? Or maybe I should have a word with Greg :)

Besides, by the looks of that screenshot, you WERE NOT LOGGED IN! :) Note that block in the top right corner with
two fields marked username and password. They do not appear if you are logged in.. duh
