I slew a rooster with an anemometer at 13. Beat that! :)

I got an air rifle in the cupboard, I'm going to the canal at the weekend! :) (Only joking, I'm sleeping over the weekend).

Boy, did we go on a tangent this time (again) !!!

Back on topic ... now that I've had a few days to think about it, I think it's common knowledge how I feel about Orbiter and
military aspects.  But ...

The beauty of Orbiter is that it is so easy to customize to your own interests.  Just 'cause I don't like it, doesn't mean it
shouldn't be available.  And if it will help generate two particular addons, I'm all for the development (look for allies
where you can find them, right?).

The one main thing you military fantasists need is very good collision detection. I'd like to see this expanded to not just
collision spheres and polygons but to cylindrical components and shells as well.  My purpose with Orbiter has been to develop
a complete space habitat/station simulation, where you have a crew inhabiting a module for an extended period of time (real
time) and you have to simulate the entire mission, their activities, experiments, etc.  To achieve this I need to have the
ability for crew to move within and between modules and pass out through the walls (sucking vacuum does not appeal !).

In addition I need mobile camera capabilities, as if a crew member has a camera attached to their forehead and I can view the
craft and their activities from that crewmembers perspective.

So if we can pool ideas and activities to help achieve each others goals ...

Just bear in mind, especially if we carry the discussion over to M6 forums, that the community, in general, does not support
the militaristic viewpoint.  So, how do we couch our discussion to achieve what we collectively want?

And shooting seagulls?  Guys, over here, that's illegal.  Because they're scavengers.  For us it's illegal to hunt any animal
that is primarily a scavenger, because of the job they do for the environment.

Goes hand-in-hand with our pet name for them ... shithawks.

Heh, the shithawk shooting took place in a game, so it's all well :)

That'd be a huge project as you described it. I imagine with the station and occupants also come all kinds of
electrical, environmental and regulation systems.. Sound like a combination of DG3 and Dragonfly, plus the
unprecedented option to use EVA astronauts, which have a whole isolated "breathing" system of their own. The
camera bit shouldn't be a problemm, if you have an astronaut defined as a separate vessels, it's simply the front
window :)

Interesting.

Hmmm, beyond that, with VCs now, it is very easy to simulate the simple movement of someone's head without
moving their body... but how would you activate switches or buttons or doors?

hehe. To those who thought that I actually even own a gun, much less shoot things, I'm sorry, perhaps the MGS2
wasn't enough of a hint that I was referring to metal gear solid 2. :)

heheh nope. I never heard of mgs2 :)

If I was to own a weapon, I'd probably go for the MP5 silencer (if it's not actually included) ;) I learned to appreciate
the weapon in Delta Force (if THAT is any kind of relevant reference) :)

But I thought we were talking about individual seperate astronauts inside of space stations.

Yeah, stuff gets rapidly confusing on this forum.

Yeah, so?

We were referring to the forum as a whole, and as we all know, that is in this forum.

No, no, no, no. It's the difference between scavengers and parasites.

Scavengers are useful. They clean up the mess.

Lawyers create it.  They're fair game.

Except Greg Burch.  He produces great addons. I therefore nod in his direction with respect.

Well Doc, I tried to get them back on topic ... but you know this bunch.

My concept of a space simulator does take it much farther than Orbiter.  That's why there has been no comprehensive space
simulator, up to now.  I mean, after all, there was nothing comparable for just space flight until Dr. Martin produced
Orbiter (may we all genuflect in his general direction).

But my real point is this:

Everyone keeps harping about how they want this and how they want that, in Orbiter.  If you want it, you'll have to get off
your "playing" ass and do it yourself.  Like Dr. Schweiger did, like Daniel did, like the guys doing CVEL did.  It's a great
opportunity to learn something new while you're at it.

Maybe you just need to get a group together, physically or virtually, brainstorm for awhile and then pick a piece of the
puzzle to solve.  You may keep it to yourself, or you may release it for general consumption.  I have a number of addons that
exist nowhere else in Systeme Orbiter.  I'm still partway up my own learning curve and frankly, my psyche only wants to
release perfection (or close to it).  Afterall, we're not Microsoft.

So, waddaya wanna do?

Well, the harping is really more pronounced on the main forum :)

I for one will get back to my sound adventures as soon as I can.. It's my personal passion and it's still unique. Noone
actually does that.. If I exclude projects like NASSP, Mercury...

right after I deliever those skins I promised to shedalier eons ago :/

You see, everyone? He's doing it again! Next thing you know, we're going to be talking about foodfights, and
marmite
! :(

But no, I won't sink to his level! :( I won't! :(

Actually I think that being able to have the astronauts inside the station and the implementation of collision detection
would be great. :)

It is not easy to code.  I'm just beginning going through LaMothe's collision detection methods now.  If I can come up with a
workable model for Orbiter ...

Hmm, just imagine simulating a food fight on the ISS or the DG3 ...

(now that will bring them both on topic)
