Hey,

Somewhat related to our "Solar Nations" thread....saw the trailer for the upcoming "War of the Worlds" movie the
other day in the theatre.  Check it out!

That's a brilliant book, you think they will ruin it?

Not sure.  I thought the original movie was pretty good, and of course I immensely enjoyed the book.  This movie has
Spielberg and Tom Cruise, which is about as "Hollywood" as it gets, so any enthusiasm I have is pretty guarded at
this point.  I just hope it doesn't turn into a ho-hum version of Independence Day or something like that.

It probably will.. I haven't seen a good space movie in ages :) Even Star Wars isn't what it used to be.. Let alone the
later installments of Star Trek movies....

Star Wars has gone down hill. I like the original trilogy better than the newer ones. I loved the War of the Worlds book
though, I borrowed it off my English teacher.

If it's anything like Starship troopers :)... the book, I hear, is great (Robert A. Heinlein)... but the movie.. well :)

Ah I loved the movie, it's totally "off" and I take it on 5th degree
I have read the book after having seen the movie this is perhaps
why I love both.

Yes, noone told me in advance it was sarcastic and ironic and a total parody on society.. So I took it too seriously
(professional disease of Orbinauts with space movies - we want REALISM!) and you can imagine how frustrated I
was, until I understood the humor :) Still I was told, the movie is a lot different than the book. That the book is better.

Cheers,
Janez

Believe it or not, Starship Troopers, is on the required read list for officer cadets in the Canadian Armed Forces, the only
SciFi book to make the list. They do issue the caveat of not to bother seeing the movie.

I thought I had read all of Heinlein's works until my youngest brought this home.  It has a lot to say about leadership
development. I haven't seen the movie, so I can't comment on the satire nature of it, but I didn't find the book satirical.

Yup, I guess I definitelly need to read the book soon. Leadership development is also very interesting to me and it
would make the book a perfectly logical choice for obligatory military reading :)
