I know, so do I. In some things I believe in total autocracy, say wartime (national defense ONLY! - I don't promote
conquests), other times nothing else but democracy is acceptable. As far as economic systems go, both capitalism
and socialism/communism have their flaws. With one major difference you pointed out. Capitalism is much more
aligned to the nature of humans. While socialism requires certain character qualities which most of us don't have or
rather cannot stick to. Yet. Capitalism alone on the other hand, has no real mechanisms (or rather dismisses the
issues) to protect nature, people who (for no fault of their own!) cannot function as well as others and cannot really
push forward projects that have a humanitarian benefit, rather than material... Take NASA and X-prize. X-prize would
never be possible if NASA didn't lay the foundations. And NASA would never be possible if capitalism alone would
govern its creation... meaning profit, not national interest in this case. That's why governments are needed and so
important in the regulatory sense.

A combination of the two would be good, but how to set it up the mixture is the challenge. I guess the system you
have is an attempt of that. The one we have is another... I have a few theories that might solve it, but it requires
radical changes of mentallity and big costs that would never be returned as such. Neither of those are currently
acceptable :) I'm not even sure I would be able to follow my own rules :)

I guess these things can't be stuffed into the same can. I guess that the american definition of socialism, in your
dictionary, would actually differ from the one in a UK or our dictionary. That's how dumb it all is. I guess the true
definition would be, that socialist systems are socius (society) oriented, while capitalist systems are capital oriented.
How it actually turns out depends on the people, technology and mostly on their leaders.

But we go astray. Mail me if you wanna kick dirt further on the topic ;)

Cheers,

~~~
Hm.. neat, new polls! :)
I should include a poll section on my new site too. I have a sneaky suspicion you'd as interesting questions in the
polls ;)
Whether he is or not is irrelevent, it's what Dan thinks that counts. Doc may be competent, but, like he said himself,
he may well seem to be incompetent. ;)
BTW: this is totally pointless jibberish, but hey, who cares? :)
Nice poll. :top: Better graphics, I like the way that it totals up the percentage. Colours aren't that bad either. :)
It's nasty here. I have to register for classes today and it's just beginning to rain. :(
I suspect by the lighting of the clouds and the ominous winds it's going to last for a while.
It's 73 degrees here though. (remember, I'm not metric ;) ) very tolerable, although my body prefers something in the
60's for room temp. :) the rain should fix that.
Sorry to "dampen" your spirits. :pfff:
Ahh, I love puns. :)
Our garden's grass is burned due to the lack of rain since may... now it's raining since
two day, I hope it will rain like this a long time.
20°C here... (remember I'm metric, the only logicall system :)
here a view of our pity grass totally burned.... (last years we had a lot of tomatoes from garden
this years there is only 10-12 and they are still green, see how they are still small even in july)
Hehe.. I might learn how to convert numbers to and from metric but it'll be a LONG time before I use them for good. (If
ever)
Humans aren't logical. Mr. Spock can tell you that. Metric doesn't suit us. :)
At least it doesn't suit me. ;)
Sorry to hear about your tomatoes, but I have a more depressing story actually, We had some company over at our
house just today, and some madman going insanely fast in a car turned the corner of the street without braking,
and rear ended another car. as a result, the two cars went out of control and damaged several others most of which
were the cars that belong to our guests. :( In fact, the damage occured entirely where WE usually park our cars, and
it's just crappy that it happened. Of course I was taking a nap when it happened and missed the whole thing. The
guy responsible took off running like lightning, and From what my brother said, the owner of one of the cars that got
damaged, (not one of our company) pulled out a gun and chased him. crazy world we live in, I wish I could have seen
it. It would have been like in the movies. :)
Here's some pics. taken about an hour ago. sorry about the resolution, I cut the size by half but I didn't realize that they're still huge. One car crashed into a tree in the park that's right across the street from our house. If it hadn't been stopped by the tree, it would have rammed into one of our cars!
The picture above is exactly why I want a real car made of steel, and not a puny fiberglass one that breaks if you touch it. granted steel probably would have gotten damaged too, but I wouldn't have to replace the whole fricking door!
Was the guy in the insanely fast car wearing a black hat, suit and sunglasses? (Blues Brothers?) :wonder:
I hope your guests had insurance. 8o
hehe. I don't know about that. Insurance is expensive... But I'm sure that the responisble guy will need insurance
when he's caught, becasue it's quite likely that he'll be the one paying for it. :)
seriously though. we tried to flag a few police cars that passed by the area, but they just ignored us and kept going.
When the first police car finally responded, and we told him about the others who ignored us (well over 20 minutes
after it happened) The officer said, (And I'll never forget this) "Hey, what can I say? This is Chicago...."
But actually, the guy in question was a black guy wearing a white shirt from what I heard my uncle say. It's even
possible that the guy stole that car that rammed into everything. so he may prove hard to track down... :(
