As usuall
"So here is the new alpha version of the DGIII"
download here:
http://orbiter.dansteph.com/index.php?disp=dgIII
Thanks for feedback. I'm now working on OrbiterSound 3.0
because the 2.5 showed it's limit.
Once done things will continue for the DGIII.

Didn't you release 02.19 a little while ago, or am i mistaken. Version 02.19 was the release with
the panel fix wasn't it?
Krytom

Dan, I'm still having some deployment issues when using the "Docked at the ISS" scenario. I
send Passenger 1 of 4 out the airlock for an EVA, and the DG3 starts to rise vertically behind
the MMU at 10-12 m/s. It's never the MMU that rises, only the DG3. Is it possible that the MMU
is applying some sort of opposite reaction to the DG3 when it's spawned? Would a quick save
scenario help out? I thought it might be distance related, but this time I was 80 meters from the
ISS and drifting away at .1 m/s. I'll run through all the passengers and the pilot and see if
they all do that.
Thanks!
Christopher

mmhhh at my knowledge there is no code that would do that
when ejecting an mmu, and your the only one to report that...
Do you use "enable stabilisation" ?
Can you send me a saved scenario just before it happen
and after ?
Do you use the 02.19 on a fresh install ?
Thanks for you time,
Krytom: yes the 02.19 was the panel fix but the 02.18 thread was full.

Yes, I will.

No, thank you! :)

Very nice work Dan! :applause: only one simple question: how do you get back into the DGIII after
having performed an EVA? I am currently performing an EVA with the pilot lol and I can't get back
into the ship.
Thanks!
Pt
-
Nevermind, I found it lol :stupid:
impressive!
-
So Dan, Can we get a mini bar put for this one?
:)
-
BTW :turning: I tried to see if the emergency cells power would still bump up if i opend the antena;
it seems you got that bug out. i was wondering thoug, Would it be more realistic if you could shut
down the emergency cell if it recarged a slower charging battery? Or maybe run the ship
temorarily off the battery like the EPU? personly, I think it would be intresting to have a 4th power
source like a recargable battery; Id be like Scotty :) and play with the power! something for a
situation like an APU overheat or fuel cell depletion.
Darn no free power anymore :wonder:, Where's a outlet when you need one?
Brian

Could you add strafing to the 4 and 6 keys when in eva on the ground?
-
I'd like to see an astronaut sidestepping...or anyone who walks around like that in the real
world...heh.

Having a wonderful time with the new DG Dan. It's really great work.
One little request though. When you have an hour or two, could you whip up a large intersteller
ship with an enlosed docking bay just the right size for the DG. With animated doors. And a really
nice panel. And a multistage orbital autopilot so I don't have to figure out the TransX MFD which is
really giving me the brain-pain. And an electro-magnetic fuel scoop? Maybe throw in some
dancing girls in the mess hall?
No rush, I'll wait.

When I wrote in the tittle "BAR OPEN" I wasn't meaning one must drink
ALL the reserve :drunk:
Anyway without joke I WOULD love to do a large ship to hold two DGIII
but I bet once I'll be done with OrbiterSound and the DGIII
Just seeing a line of code would make me sick.

Cheers to that! :drunk::friend:

The reason I requested it was because it makes up for not being able to turn your head. While it may look
weird in external view, it makes the 1st person view feel more natural.
If you wanted to observe something from mutliple angles on your table for instance, you wouldn't look at
it, turn your head and body to the direction you wanted to go, walk, and then look back at the object,
repeat.... I'm also sure that you don't aways walk exactly towards what you're looking at. Thats what we
have to do now with astronauts.
Straffing, when used with turning and regular walking, allows for more natural movement.
-
What really works well is 'circle straffing', in conjunction with RPGs and chain guns to really put
those aliens down good.
-
Ah...a fellow Duke Nukemer, I see?
Dave
-
can you add the capability for the mmu to dock with other objects to simulate the astronaut
grabing a probe or whatever. It would have been useful in the easy scenario so you could still
retrive Joe even if he died with another astronaut.
-
new mission idea?...
"Your job is to collect the spinning frozen corpses littering the skies, then return them for circle-
straffing target practice. Then use your MMU jet-pack to uh..." ;)
-
..um too uh... use the MMU to have a showdown with a particularly viciuous bug, that won't leave
the Alphans alone. You are to land near the base, get your beam weapon ready and then ..
CIRCLE-STRAFE and put the bugger down. Oh yeah, they call them Bug Bladder Beasts of Thrall, so
do bring your towel in case situation gets ridicuolous :) Oh and read your Hitchhiker's Guide to the
Galaxy again before the mission." :)
Cheers,

has anyone else had problems with the brake? when i open it the entire ship goes wonky.
-
seem to me that you must do a fresh reinstall of the DGIII
as stated for the last version.
Dan

Hi Dan, just two things I'd like to mention.
Upon loading the Transworld express scenario (the only one I tried so far), the two DGIIIs sort of
hover, shake, puff out some smoke and jump up on the runway. This lasts for about 3 seconds,
then they "sit down" and the alarm starts beeping, telling me the nose cone and canopy is
damaged:( Bug, or my harddrive is not up to the task of loading the scenario quick enough before
strange things happen?:)
Second, I still think the rate at which the DGIII is able to turn around 180deg (while taxiing) is just
unrealistic, considering the configuration of its wheels. Well, at least the gear didn't collapse on me
this time around:)
Other than that, have a nice day.
-
Dan,
I am an extreme newbie. I have flown orbiter <10x. I have done several hours worth of reading
and believe me, it was worth the time invested. I have downloaded your DGIII, I can not believe
how much attention to detail you have put into this project. YOU SHOULD BE COMMENDED!!!!! I
also fly fs2004, and all the previous versions back to fs5.1 Please keep up the extremely good
work. I also love the sound package you have done. Like I said, I am very new at this, so I have
not yet had a chance to try all of your sound files, but from what I see thus far, you are doing the
job and doing it right.

I'm sorry to say that my first contribution to this forum is a bug report, nevertheless I really enjoy
Orbiter and the DGIII because.. well... I'm just a guy who loves panels... *grin*
But I found a strange phenomenon, and I can't really find in this forum if it's been said already or
not. When I power down one or both MFD's in the Main Panel, then go to the Upper Panel, then
back to the Main Panel, both MFD's are on again. Weird? I'm sure I've pressed a button here
somewhere... *KABAMM!!!* Uhmm, nope, that's not it...
Anyway, If I turn something off, I would like it to STAY off, or is that just not possible? It's not really
a bug so much as it is a minor detail, but the details ont the DGIII are always top notch, so let's
make it better.. ;)
-
I'll try to record this, keep it in head and remind me if next beta version
have still this problem. (I have a huge todo list not updated frequently)
Thanks for report

I'd like to add an unsolicited recommendation here if you'll indulge me.
If you appreciate all of the work that Dan puts into his products, drop by his Download page and
send him a few dollars (or your local currency) via PayPal.
Just something to think about. I think the DGIII is an amazing ship, and turn off OrbiterSound for a
bit and see how much it really adds to the Orbiter experience! The man is smoking him
self to death because of our requests! It's the least you can do! 8) :)

Doc - Slovenia? Cool, Im from Slovakia! And I just released an article about Orbiter in one of my
country's most respected (although not all too popular, see Mr. Gauss:)) weekly neewspapers. I
couldn't believe they accepted it. 8)
Dan - about the DGIIIs acting weirdly upon loading the Transworld express scenario: so I look into
the scenario file and see that they are defined as Orbiting Earth. Did you really intend that, or is it
a bug? If they are intended to be in the air, why do they have canopies and nosecones open?
-
Good to meet a kin soul. Even though our languages are similar, did you know some words sound
the same but have TOTALLY different meaning. Like.. dekla - girl in your language if I'm not
mistaken, servant girl in ours. Or punca - slut in your language, again if not mistaken and casual
for girl in ours :)
Congratulations. Not a bad idea actually. I was actually thinking sometime to start promoting
Orbiter to ESA, so Martin could get some financial support and we would be considered as an
external think-tank and concept developers and testers. What did you write in your article?
Cheers,
Janez
-
Heh, those words are slightly different in Slovak:
girl - dievča (in case you cannot see the character it's pronounced like tch in English)
slut/bitch - piča
:turning:
-
Yeah, and I forgot:
LOL about that "external think-tank". That'd be some easy money:)
And I can send you the article when I get home, you can see if you understand any Slovak:)
-
Ah, so I was misinformed! Don't worry. We also have the čđć characters but are missing some
extra you have. The r with the "roof" and the like.
Now dievča sounds a bit like devica in Slovene, which would be a virgin or a maid. neat...
Whereas piča would be animal (specifically chicken) food in Slovene!
Now imagine the kind of misunderstandings we could have :wall: Would be better if I spoke
Chinese and you spoke German, because the next common denominator is sign language and it
would be a helluva lot more reliable :)
Well, I would be quite happy to just participate in the ESA process, money aside. NASA needs a
worthy competitor. It's good for space business :) But I could always go with some extra
dough :applause:

Is the Bar still open  or is it time for last calls?

Wonderful addon! Having a great time with DGIII....
I'm focusing in re-entry:
* I'm assuming you mean "long" tons when specifiying weight being under 19 tons. That would
make the vessel weight to be =< 19304.89 kg correct?
Would be nice to have weight in kg displayed in lower panel somewhere when venting extra fuel.
* re-entry is real touchy. I can do it if I have 25% fuel or less ok but if vessel weight is near max
(19 ton), no way! It gets too hot in aft section... even if vessel is light... would be nice to make
temp resistance more robust..
;) ew
-
Nice Work Dan.
I love what I see
one idea though, a way to controll your heading once you start the ascent autopilot. Would make it a lot
easier to correct plane alignment while launching. Mabey something like the one built into the reentry
autopilot.
Just my two cents.

When you EVA the captain, the pilot mesh doesn't disappear.

Hi Dan,
First of all big compliments on what you accomplished with this add-on: I really love it!
One of the things I've noticed and haven't read about yet is a bug in the cabin data panel.
When reentering the atmosphere the vessel often gets too hot on the hull (already reported), the
heart beats of all crew members increase, but the temperature reading in the cabin stays the
same. I get a nice 21.4 degrees cabin temperature readout when I'm burning up my entire crew in
the atmosphere. :wonder:
For the sake of reality it would be nice if the cabin climate control system readout would show all
changes as a result of all the extreme conditions on the outer hull.
So far I am really enjoying this one though, keep up the good work!

Dan,
I just wanted to say, the new DGIII is a fantastic piece of work and I've been enjoying the heck out of
it. It's amazingly solid and functional for an alpha release. I haven't run into any bugs personally, but
have had a lot of fun flying this ship. The realism is just amazing.
You may have discussed this before, do you plan to include the source code with the final release? I
certainly understand if you don't want to, but it would be a great resource for people trying to program
Orbiter (like me).
~xlander
-
Thanks for kind word, :gift:
I don't plan to include the source but that's not
really bad, I doubt anyone can get any usefull
trick while the code is really wide and value shared
across many source. It would be a pain to read.
Anyway I'm always ready to help with snip of code
cleared of any garbage as long it's precise question
and not things like "how do I do a DGIII?" by a guy
that never wrote one line of c++ ;)

UAF Lt Brenton
What does the UAF stand for? And the Lt? :wonder:
I was just wondering, not meaning to be nosy or anything. It is just that i see the letters 'AF' in
something i immediately presume Air Force and when i see 'Lt' i think Lieutenant.
Krytom
P.S. Again, not meaning to be nosy.
-
got it in one, Krytom!
UAF is the United Armed Forces, Lt is infact Lieutenant, and Brenton is my callsign obviously.
The UAF were once the best FS2002 flight group on the net, but sadly they have disbanded (I
wonder if I would get into trouble if I restarted them myself ;) )
Their website is still alive (just) at http://www.uafhq.tk (The site is fairly rubbish, it's got a banner
sticking out of the side and most of it is under construction)
By the way, throwing it back at you Krytom, how did you get your nickname? Was it anything to
do with Kryten from Red Dwarf?

Hi Brenton,
Been meaning to ask someone who is in this kind of group, like you and Pierre. How does that
work?? Is it just a discussion group or is it a multiplayer community? And if so, do you what, fly in
pairs?? The whole virtual airline concept is kind of alien to me...
Cheers,
-
you lot ask some difficult questions :pfff:
OK, the way VAs and VMs work...
:wonder: how can I explain it?
Basically, you join a VA (or VM) and you come online at certain times (i.e. for missions or
assignments). Depending on how well you fly the mission or assignment, that affects your points
or rank etc. I don't know much about VAs because I've never really been in one, only a VM.
That's it, really. To find out properly, you really have to join one.
Hope that helped ;)
UAF_Lt_Brenton
P.S: VA = Virtual Airline
P.P.S: VM = Virtual Military
-
Well, didn't mean to make it difficult :)
Sounds pretty much like X-Wing Alliance fighter group my friend is a member of. I guess only the
nature of "mission" changes, be it, bomb a site, kill a few Tie Fighters or fly a cargo haul from Hong
Kong to Kadena AFB :)
I can imagine it for VM, but I guess I thought for the VA you actually have people who take on the
role of ATC, and then you have to be careful not to bump into another Boeing while taxing to
runway :)
Tnx
-
Well Brenton, you also got it in one.
Except for the fact that the Krytom account is actually shared between my best friend and i. We
set it up like that when my e-mail was down and we kept it like this. Both our names are Tom, and
we are fans of Red Dwarf. So it came together quite well. :music:

Read this and laugh Krytom... This is a bit of dialogue from Series 3:
KRYTEN: I can fit a number of add-ons into my groinal socket.
LISTER: So, you can fit an egg-whisk and whip up a Spanish omelette?
KRYTEN: Yes, sir, but it's surprising how few people are prepared to eat them.
Another bit of dialogue (series unknown):
HOLLY: We need some more supplies
LISTER: Like what?
HOLLY: Fresh cows' milk. Ran out of that years ago.
LISTER: What milk are we on now then?
HOLLY: Emergency backup. We're on the dogs' milk.
LISTER (chokes): Dogs' milk?!
HOLLY: It's good stuff, dogs' milk.
LISTER: Why didn't you tell me?
HOLLY: What, and spoil your breakfast?
HOLLY: One of the good things about dogs' milk is that when it's off, it smells exactly the same as
when it's fresh.
LISTER: (makes noise of disgust)
HOLLY: Also, it lasts longer than any other milk.
LISTER: Why?
HOLLY: No b*gg*r'll drink it!
I'm also a Red Dwarf fan!
UAF_Lt_Brenton
P.S. I've got a skutter here asking me for the address of the John Wayne fan club ;)

Have you seen the T-Rex episode(s) in series nine? I liked the cow vindaloo. :)
And 'Backwards', that episode is brilliant. (Series three.) :)
Do you know of the BBC releasing any more series on DVD any time soon? It is hardly ever on TV
anymore.
