If you got to orbit.m6.net, all you will find is the glowing embers of the database.
DaveS reports that there were no backups. Nobody knows for certain what caused the total annihilation of the forum, although I suspect it was M6's general crappiness.

Breaking news: M6 is destroyed in mysterious circumstances. Orbiter fans breathe a sigh of relief, and then get drunk
celebrating.
In an unrelated event, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth the second reassures a panicky public that England's Secret Service is
still operational.

Ohh!!...:sunk:
Thats why m6 is down! <- stupid

Everything dies, Baby, that's a fact.
Maybe everything that dies some day comes back.
-
If you tell me that second death star at Endor is operational, I would be worried... :D
It could be just another stall...

and meet me tonight in...Dan's Orbiter Forum!
Ah, the Boss...been lucky enough to see him twice in the last 5 months...am hoping he makes one more stop in the
Toronto area ;)
Cheers,
Cale

I strongly hope they had backup, I would find surprising that m6 don't provide any one (at least one day or such is
common for serious provider)
(Here we have 30 days backup. One every day at 5am and the server is saved completely every week.)

Wow, Never heard of anything like that before. That's not good.

I would not give too much credit to apocalyptic anouncements.

In this case the forum is Dead, The database has been lost and there was no backup of it. I do not know if M6 had or has a
backup of it, but it is looking like it won't be back up for a while. More info here starting on page 6:

What I see is that there is no database.
Could it be due to database migration caused by upgrades?
-
I have also orbit.m6.net down.
I have a pre-clue:
When I'm browsing orbit.m6.net, error.
The next day, when I'm browsing orbit.m6.net, installation of orbit.m6.net.
Why?
-
I'm in more than 1 week after the official forum dead.

What if we travel in Orbiter using relativistic physics to go back in time and backup the database?

Maybe, if you hijack the LHC at CERN and try to open a rift in the space-time continuum.

I have also, Dig Gil but I can't do it.

I tried to access NSTTA (National Space and Time Travel Agency) databases, to look for a feasible way to backup the
database. Unfortunately no one has logged such a troubleshooting. It seems that it requires such an amount of
energy that there is no cost effective way to retrieve that database.
It would be as expensive as starting a whole space program, to retrieve a love letter dropped on Pluto.
-
Martin has been posting on Orbiter-Forum.com and thinks the database is still intact. He's not sure about putting M6 back up
and seems to be thinking of passing the "official" forum status on to another site.
It seems entirely possible that the database will be transferred, too.
Patience everyone - Dan Steph's site works, Orbiter-Forum works, and Meadville Space Center is too!

FIRST of All, SHUT UP.
SECOND OF ALL; LET ME REPEAT, M6 is DEAD, I repeat DEAD, the datase is GONE; THERE IS NOTHING YOU CAN DO TO FIX IT; THIS IS
NOT IN YOUR HANDS BUT IN THE ADMIN's.
THIRD; Stop SPAMMING with a question which already has been ANSWERED.
And last, how old are you?

Hubleman, either he is in WRITE MODE only (unable to read) or he is trolling.
The only good path to deal with trolls is to ignore them.
If you reply, you lose.
If you argue, you lose.
If you yell, you lose.
If you try to be reasonable, you lose.
To me, unknown is pushing hard to earn a ban...

He is very likely already banned. If he is the same unknown like on Orbiter-Forum.com. Produced almost 100 posts in less than
12 hours, mostly by talking to himself.

Well, banning his IP is winning!
*chanting like on Jerry Springer, which I never watch cause I'm Australian* Ba-an! Ba-an! Ba-an!
Sorry, that was just a sad, sad attempt at humour.

Hey, if 1 forum is being banned, this forum is giving a chance, if banned, it's two.
Give him/her one chance to this forum.

Let's continue to explain the m6 down:
First, you see on the installation:
Welcome
This installation wizard that will guide you through the installation of Yet Another Forum.NET.
Before you begin you should make sure you have setup your MS SQL server correctly. You can use an existing database, or you
can create a new one.
To begin the installation, click next.
Then, on step one:
Step 1 of 5: Configuration setup
This step will attempt to verify your Web.config file. By default, YetAnotherForum.NET Web.config file is named
Default.config. You might need to rename "C:\clients\orbit.m6.net\orbit.m6.net\Default.config" to
"C:\clients\orbit.m6.net\orbit.m6.net\Web.config" if this is a new installation.
NOTE: Please make sure "smartNavigation" is set to false in your Web.config file or you will have problems with
YetAnotherForum.NET. YetAnotherForum.NET includes it's own smartNavigation-like system.
Click next to verify the configuration.
Then, on step two:
Step 2 of 5: Connect to database
Please verify that you have manually modified the connection string found in
"C:\clients\orbit.m6.net\orbit.m6.net\Web.config" to point to your database.
When you have entered the correct connection string, click next to continue with the installation.
I cannot explain from step three to five because the page of http://orbit.m6.net says:
Connection failed. Modify Web.config and try again.
The error message was:
Cannot open database requested in login 'orbitflightsimulator1'. Login fails.
Login failed for user 'orbiter'.

i find nothing wrong with orbit.medphys.ucl.ac.uk or orbiter-forum.com
-
Yes, there is nothing wrong with the m6.net forum. It is so devoid of problems, that it is no longer mentioned on "Orbiter forums" page
http://orbit.medphys.ucl.ac.uk/forum_list.html
As one of my neighbours would have said "no forum, no problem"
