Title: AddOns Challenge for Developers
Post by: Dig Gil on 18 January 2008, 14:41:27
Once I wonder about how much could an usual Addon developer be able to create Addons, having in mind patience, time and
resources.
Here is my first challenge:

This is a pretty one.
A future concept of space tourism

To create a vessel (flyable mesh) you need:

-A mesh (use your favorite modeller)

-Textures for your mesh (if required, use your favorite image processing software)

-Spacecraft3.dll addon from http://users.swing.be/vinka/

-These tutorials

-A mesh convertor app (depending on mesh format you use)

-Mesh Wizard for final tweaking of your mesh http://www.orbithangar.com/searchid.php?ID=2740

So I'd dare to challenge YOU to make this concept to come true.

If you are not familiar with modding (making addons) you may need to start making simpler addons like a surface
base.  To do that use http://www.orbitersim.com/forum/Default.aspx?g=posts&t=4531

Just as well that I began with a simple thing (then it was complicating, to know how far others were arriving). Uff!.
Afterall... I think I accept the challenge. :pfff:
Now, what would happen if I complete the task?:wonder:

1.You'd be a developer.
2.If your addon has enough quality, other people may like to collaborate with you to make a team to work on an idea
of yours...

My advise is... practice, practice... until you have a good addon.
Do not release your first addons.
Wait a bit until they are really cool for the most demanding users.
Even then you may get mixed comments, some good, some bad, some trolling or flaming, etc.
But since you are a dev because you enjoy it, that will not stop you.
