Title: earth to mars
Post by: ali on 06 July 2005, 15:21:07
hello guys,

i'm in orbiter for now 2 weeks, and i tried to fly to mars using transferx mfd, but i failed because i don't know how to
manouvre during the trip.

i mean i dont know whether all the lines have to be allinged in the manouvre view or not.
does anyone know about this?

i'd use transfer MFD for a trip to the moon first before you try it going to mars :)
the orbiter manual should provide you with a rough overview of how it works, and i think there's a tutorial that comes
with the game now (including scenarios) that should set you on your way.

Simon's advice is good. I've found TransX to be a very good tool, once you've taken the time to learn it. And it does pop
surprises at you even then. Sometimes you have to set up a flight to get the right variables, then go back to try it again
and everything has changed.

Perhaps a better tool to use might be jarmonik's Interplanetary Mfd (IMFD). There are very good tutorials available for it,
especially one for the earth to mars transfer.

Link to which place, jarmonik's?

http://koti.mbnet.fi/jarmonik/Orbiter.html

For new folk, simcosmos site http://simcosmos.planetaclix.pt/ has almost all Orbiter links and well organized.

Yes, the latest version is compatible, but jarmonik is still working on it. Search the M6 Orbiter Addons Forum (search
keyword IMFD). There has been some discussion on it.

I have not had any problems with it, myself, but I tend to do a lot of "seat of my pants" flying with a calculator in the
asteroid belt (custom addons, not published).

Needless to say, I die a lot.
